Munich away match thread
Re: Munich away match thread
Less than a week of this sorry old competition for at least 18 months
Almost worthy of celebration

Re: Munich away match thread
i think Bayern will be content to just keep us at an arms length for this one.they know we are shoite and couldnt turn this around even we had messi and ronaldo,i dont think we will get a mauling simply because its not neceassary for Bayern to go for the jugular,i reckon just 2 nil to the krauts, on the other hand we might just fall to peices and get massacred,4 nil??

Re: Munich away match thread
Even if we had our old back 5, Brady, Vieria, Pires and Rocastle in midfield and Bergkamp and Henry upfront it'd be a struggle so I'd say we have pretty much no chance. If we do manage to pull it off it might just be one of the greatest nights in our history.

Make no mistake, even the best teams from the past of Barcelona, Real Madrid, AC Milan, Man Utd and Liverpool would have gone into the game with little chance of getting through...This Is The Daybreak wrote:Even if we had our old back 5, Brady, Vieria, Pires and Rocastle in midfield and Bergkamp and Henry upfront it'd be a struggle so I'd say we have pretty much no chance. Overturning a home 1st leg defeat is unheard of in Europe. But add to that they also have 3 away goals...the fact that the deficit is 2....the fact that we have to score at least 3 at the home of arguably the best team in Europe at the moment.... We don't just go into the game with a slim chance. We go into the game with no chance!
If we get through on Wednesday night it won't just be "one of our greatest nights", it will be the biggest upset in Champions League history!!
Re: Munich away match thread
Early home goal, foot off the pedal by the home team before finally killing the game off with two second half goals. In a show of strength bayern will give some of their "squad" players game time and two of them (Gomez and robben) will be amongst the goals
Arsenal on the other hand will play their strongest 11 (whatever that means
) and will keep them on even when bayern go 2 up and this will prove to be a costly mistake as wilshere and arteta pick up late injuries
At the end of the day who gives a fcuk about this game ? Hope the traveling Gooners have a great time but their enjoyment will of course be restricted to non match activities

Re: Munich away match thread
I'll be in Amsterdam rather than Munich for this game.
By the end of 90 mins I'll be so off my face in a coffeeshop, we'll have won the Treble, Gervinho will be Ballon d'Or Winner, and the Spuds gone bankrupt.
In reality, I'd be happy with a 0-0

I think only 5 teams have ever overturned a home defeat in the first leg in European Cup history. In the CL era I believe it's only Ajax in 1996 and somebody did it about two years ago. And bearing in mind those were probably mostly/all teams who lost by one goal at home against a weaker side, I'd say our chances of overturning a 3-1 home defeat against 2010 and 2012 finalists and runaway Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich are non-existent. Not that stats were needed to back that up!MK Gould wrote:Make no mistake, even the best teams from the past of Barcelona, Real Madrid, AC Milan, Man Utd and Liverpool would have gone into the game with little chance of getting through...This Is The Daybreak wrote:Even if we had our old back 5, Brady, Vieria, Pires and Rocastle in midfield and Bergkamp and Henry upfront it'd be a struggle so I'd say we have pretty much no chance. Re: Munich away match thread
I heard a couple of Gooners talking about overturning the deficit the other day comparing it to losing 0-3 at home to Inter in the Group stage almost 10 years ago and then winning away 5-1.
Just a couple of minor differences
a) that Inter side were about 20% of the level that Bayern are at
b) the current Arsenal side are about 20% of the level of the Arsenal team that season inspired by Henry's genius
Other than that, I think we've got a great chance

I think you are keeping bad company there Steve o - those "senile" Gooners didn't include your ever so optimistic dad did it ?

Re: Munich away match thread
We had Pascal Cygan aka the mekon in that line up and also it was a group match so how can it be compared ?
Great result and a great night in Milan though despite the weather !

Bayern Munich have revealed they tried to lure Arsene Wenger to Germany on a number of occasions but he always stayed loyal to Arsenal.

Think you forget to mention that bayern have won their last 11 games in all competitions.... But they did concede 2 goals at the weekend if anyone is looking for a glimpse of hope.northbank123 wrote:I think only 5 teams have ever overturned a home defeat in the first leg in European Cup history. Re: Munich away match thread
Wouldn't it be typical Arsenal to win this 2-0 against all the odds and go out on the away goals rule?
Or lose 3-0.

Or lose 3-0.
