Sorry, but I think that is cobblers. I consider that Steven Gerrard is the greatest player of the EPL era. Not interested he never won a title. Had he been at Arsenal, Man Utd or Chelsea over recent years they would have won at least a couple more titles than they did. Force of nature. Far better player than the likes of Giggs & Lampard.

No emoticons so can't tell if taking the piss or not. Will just assume you are and that haven't lost all your marbles.

(on a slight side-track - didn't OGS specifically say he would back Sol
that he thought it was an accident - them mysteriously forget about it..?)

Story I heard was that OGS was willing to defend Sol but a certain manager reeking of whiskey said no. Which , however wrong, made sense as it was one of the final nails in our title defence.
I met Jimmy Carter outside Highbury after a game in January 2006. He was actually surprised that I asked for his autograph. Not a legend but a Gooner

All about opinions, my one is that Vieira and Keane were dominating English Football at the time and Gerrard was elevated to their status by the media because of his nationality. I rate Gerrard as a very good Premier League player but not in the same class as Vieira or Keane. In 2005 I listened to the Ch League Final on the radio. At half time with the Victims 0-3 down the programme went to a venue in Liverpool. The presenter from the venue was of the opinion that Gerrard was being blamed for what was going on. Rafa got him to right back, let Alonso and Hamman do their job and the rest is history. But again its all about opinions.

StevieMe and his amazing Hollywood ball losing abilities?
Good player - who def raises it in Cup Finals,
but nowhere near the consistency required

Maybe just about Prem top ten
IMO he's def behind Bergkamp, Cantona, Shearer, Henry, Keane, RVN, Vieira and Ronaldo
actually no - I'd put FatFranky, JT and Zola all ahead of him as well, so not even top ten.

By the way Anders was vastly under rated.

Don, I was at the game that night in the old east stand and had a pretty good view of the incident, and it looked all over a foul, whether or not it was is not the point I'm making, but why did numb nuts Campbell do it in the first place, there was only ever going to be one outcome, it was an act of stupidity from a stupid player.

I was there too - I just thought the fix is in.
Sol's on the ball - almost never saw players pulled up for fouls whilst in possession at that time.
The Giggs goal, conceded straight after we scored, was a proper blow.
And a recurring error that team suffered from.

Incidentally, Mark Halsey was referee for the game in which Campbell was sent off, not Riley.

that game wasn't scandalously reffed - it was just one moment
Riley 'oversaw' the BLATANTLY fixed 50th game at OT

Apologies peeps.

I thought Sid was on about the penalty at OT, my bad.

Didn't Sol miss the Cup final coz of that red card at Highbury?

WTF?!?! Pre-malarial Kolo was spectacular
Until his 'mare at the Olympiastadion he literally never put a foot wrong for us
and even in that game he scored late which could have been enough...

note: if anyone has a video of Kolo's goalscoring debut at Stamford Bridge, specifically the post match interview, please please send it to me. Love that interview, Kolo all over - speaks virtually no English but totally game
goes out there and gives it a go: "Kolo come, Kolo see, Kolo enjoy"
brilliant

Don, The pen at ot was also stupid from Campbell, although a scandalous cheat from Shreik, it was a typical piece of inside the box defending from Campbell, caught in two minds.
Campbell was a strong and fast and used these qualities to make up for his inability to read the game and often poor positioning, but up against skill or a bit of trickery and he was usually exposed.
Anelka's 2 goals for France against Ingerland also spring to mind.
As for missing the cup final, did Senderos not have a brilliant game in his place? I remember one fantastic tackle on Shreik in particular.

He was never a great defender and was carried by Sol throughout. When Sol didn't play Kolo was lost. Never put a foot wrong? What about his shocking performance away to Bayern in '05? Or in that 4-5 freakshow at the lane? I can name countless more, just can't be arsed to think.

Wouldn't it have been the 2003 Cup Final against Southampton that Sol missed? Luzhny played makeshift CB that game in his place and had a solid game iirc.
