Come off it. He has a lot still to prove and needs to find more end product before he can make a step up but his touch, control, passing and burst over 5 yards mark him out head & shoulders above the shite clogging up most premier league midfields - foreign or english. You make him sound like lee cattermolegoonersid wrote: Wilshire is a decent midfielder with a big heart, nothing more, and were he not English then no one would even notice him.

Re: Players Who've Left Arsenal - Major Trophies Won
Before he was run into the ground through chronic over use, Wilshere was very much the real deal.
Wether he can get back to that standard again, I think, is very much open for debate.

Aside from having great vision and passing range what really sets him apart is the burst of pace and ability to squeeze past players and open up the field for himself. Which is what we tend to lack dreadfully a lot of the time with sideways pass after sideways pass and all the possession being in front of the opposition's two banks.
Obviously still a long way to go and hope he's not another tragic case of an injury-ruined footballer but I was impressed with how quickly he returned to form after not playing for about a season and a half!

Not sure Bendtner has played enough games for Juve to qualify for a medal, but Eboue definitely has for Galatasary. Seems those in the media that have decided to give us stick can't even get all their facts right!!Dan_85 wrote:And Eboueg88ner wrote:And BendtnerI Hate Hleb wrote:To think - they can soon add Alex Song to that list.![]()

For me, the real losses were Cashley, Cesc and van Persie. Cashley and van Staplecunt hurt the most because they went to rivals and have been winning trophies we should be winning.VoiceOfReason wrote:Just saw this on SSN. Pretty fucking depressing tbh. The old adage about players achieving nothing when leaving us is now merely an urban myth. Wonder exactly what the figure will amount to before we do win another trophy? 100?
Vieria possibly went too early, but then so did Pires, Gilberto, Flamini. How long was Diarra with us for? It wasn't a full season was it?
As someone said already, a fairly lazy piece of journalism but there is no denying the fact that Judas van Staplecunt's first league title, and his pivotal role in making this an easy season for Manyoo, is a clear signal to all that our club is being run for money, not trophies, not glory. It's a huge fucking mirror being held up to Wenger, Gasidis and silent Stan and we can all see the ugly image in that mirror.

Are we still pretending that players care about trophies? They care about two things: Are they in the team and how big is their pay packet? This is their career, their livelihood I'm sure they'd much rather have massive trust funds for their kids when they retire rather then a couple of bits of tin on string. I mean christ, Danny Graham moved to battle relegation in Sunderland rather then win a trophy with Swansea. Van persie over doubled the wage offer that Arsenal had on the table by engineering a move to the mancs.
Edit: And how about this gotze business? Want's to leave to work with a different coach

We need to sort out the comical imbalance in our wage structure because we have the potential to pay wages for top talent.

Everybody knows that the club has won fuck all in 8 years and most people acknowledge that that is a huge failing for a club of our size etc. Everybody also knows that good players have had their heads turned by the fact that predecessors have flown the nest and experienced success elsewhere.
I'm not sure what creating a table, consisting mostly of players who left because they didn't make the grade (noticeably Eduardo, Hleb and Reyes all top 6) proves beyond what has been blindingly obvious for years?
i would,nt dream of calling our charity shield wins a trophy yet this and the spanish charity shield are being classed as major trophys
same goes for the super cup and world club trophy
glorified friendlys
nice to be in because you have won something to get into them but not a trophy in and of itself
i went to milan when we were in the supercup and it never even entered my head to think of it as a trophy
i was out on a jolly

we have been without and won enough of the fuckers to know what a proper trophy is

I think Vieira was the biggest loss.bunch wrote:

Sure, he was slowing down, but he could have been a very important part of our midfield for another four or five seasons.
He would have played less games per season, possibly even a game or two at centre back, but imagine if he had been in the squad in 2005 - 2006?
When we were down to 10 men in the Champions League final, who better to rally the troops and organise team shape?
And in 2007 - 2008.
When Flamini was injured near the end of the season, who better to keep momentum going than a man who had won three titles with us?
And imagine him forming a midfield partnership with Flamini when Cesc was rested?
I never understood Wenger's statement that Vieira and Cesc could not form a partnership?
Why not?
What did Wenger see that I missed?
And how much better might Wilshere be if as a youth player he had the opportunity to train with Vieira every week?
Re: Players Who've Left Arsenal - Major Trophies Won
That was the typical condescending Wenger bullshit, with which we have now become so familiar, all missing from that statement was confirmation of how long he has worked in football, where as we haven't.QuartzGooner wrote:I think Vieira was the biggest loss.bunch wrote:

It will be interesting to see what his course of action will be given the growing blatantly obvious problem with Wilshire and Carzola being "unable to form a partnership"

I understand your opposition to the piece sky ran cos I too have issue's with it but lets be fair and admit that you too are being selective with your interpretation of the facts - danny graham left swansea to go to the mackems (where is our mackem buddy lately ?) cos he was not getting regular starts with swansea and surely we can all understand that especially for a player that has battled to reach the big show for years ?
As well as that can I suggest that maybe goetze is going to bayern to play for pep ? Rightly or wrongly pep has the reputation as one of the best coaches in the game nowadays so maybe he wanted to experience a life working with him ? Do you honestly believe that goetze couldnt have doubled his wages in spain or england ? If money was his motivation then staying in a more prudent german league makes no sense imo

Munich are no paupers. They might well have been the only club to meet his release clause and perhaps the lad wanted to stay in German as a preference. I would bet my house that his wage packet has increased by going from dortmund to munich as is always the case with these big transfers yet we're fed all kinds of patronising bullshit about why they're done. I dont believe for one second that a player as good as goetze gives a shit deep down who's the coach, especially considering he was playing under Jurgen Klopp in the first place.augie wrote:LDB wrote:Are we still pretending that players care about trophies? Re: Players Who've Left Arsenal - Major Trophies Won
Agree totally that his pay pay will have multiplied considerably by going to munich but it is too easy to make a general sweeping statement suggesting that all players move for money when, in my opinion at least, many of the top players are also motivated by winning trophies which sets them apart from other less motivated players
