You're right on how it operates - but I would imagine if they've set the buy-out clause at that level they'll be expecting to recover at least £20-25m if they were to let him go so early in his contract.

Malaga are about 6th in the spanish league, so without CL money next year they may well be inclined (or even desperate) to offload a player for decent money, not to say that players may wish to depart for the very same reason (or is it just our that are certs to leave according to the press if we miss out on the CL :rubchin: )
To be fair we picked up Cazorla relatively cheap given that they paid the same price for him the year before. They're banned from European competition next year anyway for not paying their players or something like that.

Maybe they would be forced to sell him if a good offer came in, but from what I gather he's likely to be pretty sought-after - and you can bet if a couple of the big boys come in for him then that'll drive the price up a bit.

Can't help feeling that begovic is being hyped way beyond the level of his actual ability  Yes our need for a quality keeper is great but not to the point that we should spunk 15m on him. Reina, vorm and foster are all better keepers than either begovic or mignolet imo

Once upon a time I would enjoy posting on a thread like this but nowadays us spending 70m in one transfer window is about as likely as me having a threesome with mila kunis and missy peregrym :gus2: :dancingbanana:

Btw a mean tough and physically imposing DM should be top of our wish list

Bet he wouldn't fit into Turnip's no-tackling easy on the eye philosophy though.

I thought playing this game might be a laugh for a few minutes, but the more I thought the more my brain hurts and the more depressed I got. Given that we need a GK, centre back, DM, wide man and a top striker 70m won't be enough (as if we're going to spend that anyway).

Julio Cesar (probably available on a free)
Hummels
Not sure about a DM (I've not heard many names mentioned)
Tom Ince (18 goals from a wide position) may be worth a punt, though Remy out wide may be a option
Adrian Lopez

All gettable within budget. Glad I don't actually have to make the decisions.

Then I'd buy Baines and Rangel (15m total). Our attacking style requires a heavy workload for our fullbacks and this would offer us much better depth. Sagna can stay or go, with these purchases (if he's willing to sign a one-year, keep him; if not, send him off).

Lastly I'd buy Isco (15m). I have been a big fan of his for a long time and I see him as good as Mata (who has been an extremely important piece of Chelsea's team).

One other consideration would be Julio Cesar or Begovic.
Isco would cost way more than £15m...

We can afford Cesc NB123 because we have first option on him plus they still owe us money for his transfer as well as the Song and Hleb deals.
   Now THAT I did not know....feckkkk! so much for business/financial acumen by Mr Syrup Fig and co  :banghead:

The Hleb deal that's a bit surprising because it was a fair few years ago now.

The Fabregas and Song deals aren't really - I don't think it's normal practice for transfers of £16m and £30m to be paid by one lump sum, I believe you'll find most deals are paid by initial lump sum and then installments.

Although apparently Everton got Jelavic pretty cheap because they were still owed money by Rangers for Michael Ball's transfer in 2001

I actually woudn't say no to giving Tom Ince a chance. Seems to have the ability to finish well, he's worth a go if we can get him for about £2-4m.

Given that Liverpool have allegedly been tracking him I'd imagine the purchase price would be more like £20-40m

Although I think that's still short of the valuation his dad put on him :censored:

Add to the fact that he is English and you've bumped up the prince a few more. :banghead:

Talking of English ''talent'from lower leagues I wonder where the world beaters that are Jermaine Beckford & David Nugent are....oh wait, both plying their trade for Leicester, Beckford being on loan at Huddersfield Town.

Bet he wouldn't fit into Turnip's no-tackling easy on the eye philosophy though.
I know selected clips can make any player (well almost any player) look decent, but he looks the dogs bollocks...reminds me of PV4 with his timing of tackles and breaking forward......<sigh>

What I would like to know is who put out the figure of £70million, surely not the club...Because there is No Way On Earth that Inspector Clueless would ever spend that amount in one transfer window - not even for Tup,Tup clas Pluyerzzzz. :banghead:

He does indeed look quite the player although some of those tackles appear a bit borderline and might be viewed as feet of the ground and/or two footed.

Wouldn't mind seeing de Rossi join us either - he is one mean mother fcuker 8)
