Moyes doesn't have to resign though, does he? - his contract expires. Wenger on the other hand...skizz_b wrote:![]()

I'll take Hlebby's comments with a pinch of salt!
Man United sources have said they have "appointed" his successor, but he has to "resign from his current job before they can announce it". Would say Jose or Moyes then. If it is Moyes, I'd see Roberto Martinez taking over at Everton.

Re: Fergie to retire?
Can Wenger say the same thing? It's gonna take fucking years of rebuilding when he does finally goIt was important to me to leave an organisation in the strongest possible shape and I believe I have done so.

Re: Fergie to retire?
Hi,
to be fair Sir Alex Ferguson has built a legacy with ManUtd.
Strange thing that Klopp is on the short list for the job

I think they want him to say he's leaving before they announce it.g88ner wrote:Moyes doesn't have to resign though, does he? - his contract expires. Wenger on the other hand...skizz_b wrote:![]()

Re: Fergie to retire?
Thing about Mourinho is even if things are going well there's no guarantee he'll stay there for more than a few years, and he is an incredibly selfish man who is highly likely to put his own interests ahead of the club's.

Re: Fergie to retire
The 'Winningest" manager in English football, but in my view not the greatest.
I class him along with Paisley as a manager who wons loads of trophies, but at a club that was already a big club.
Sure, he deserves credit for adapting to changes, the ultimate counter puncher.
And the club expanded their stadium under him, and their training ground.
Their commercial team made it one of the biggest in the world.
Then there are managers such as Cullis and Clough who built good teams, but left little legacy.
Mourinho is in a category of his own, because his financial backing was so great that it will always "cloud" his achievements on the pitch.
Wenger also in a category of his own, lots of trophies for a decade, then nothing, but leaving an infrastructure legacy and undoubtedly changed English football forcing others to react.
But Chapman, Busby and Shankly are in a different category altogether, they went to small clubs and built them into world renowned clubs.
They are the "Legacy managers".

Re: Fergie to retire
To be fair he made Manchester United a massive club. When he took over at Manchester United they had 7 top flight titles, one more than Sunderland, and they now have 20, I'd say that should count as really making the club one of the absolute elite. Added to that, of course, he was at Aberdeen and won them 3 of the 4 Scottish titles that they have in their history and won them their only european tournament. His record is up there with the very best and, imo, the only thing preventing him from being the very best is his record in the champions league with Man United, only getting two titles in the number of attempts he has had isn't great (its far from bad like but its not top class). Definitely in the top bracket though.QuartzGooner wrote:The 'Winningest" manager in English football, but in my view not the greatest.

Re: Fergie to retire
Sir Alex on the board will make this the impossible job, I think Moyes would be a poor appointment, I wouldn't want him at Arsenal. He has been a good manager for Everton , but to step up to a bigger Club would be a Bruce Rioch type appointment.
Have a little bet on Sir Alex being manager of Manchester United before the end of next season.

Re: Fergie to retire
Agree with this, and it's the reason I don't want Wenger moving upstairs when he does finally leave. How can a new manager come in & work with that feeling of someone looking over their shoulder all the time? A clean break would be best for all I think...Bradywasking wrote:Sir Alex on the board will make this the impossible job

IMO all the rivalries since Fergie/Wenger have been tepid to say the least.

I think the opposite. It's testament to MeatFace's genius that they won the league with such a crappy squadDan_85 wrote:Can Wenger say the same thing? and that Wenger's main failings are tactical and strategic
- he'll leave lots of good players behind when he eventually goes
Re: Fergie to retire?
This. Arsenal and Manure will be the last 2 clubs to appoint some one like Mourinho. There is no way they are going to take Mourinho kind of management. I am surprised some of those plastics want this plastic.northbank123 wrote:Thing about Mourinho is even if things are going well there's no guarantee he'll stay there for more than a few years, and he is an incredibly selfish man who is highly likely to put his own interests ahead of the club's.
