You can't judge players purely on stats. Cesc has better stats than Iniesta and Xavi but is he a better player? Can he control the game like the them? Can he set the tempo like them?

One also has to take players' roles and positions into consideration. If Cesc played as a pure number 10 for Real Madrid, he'd do as well as Ozil and get similar stats.

Fabregas is a fantastic player but Ozil is arguably if not probably the best player in his position on the planet, I rate him higher without doubt.

You can't judge players purely on stats. Cesc has better stats than Iniesta and Xavi but is he a better player? Can he control the game like the them? Can he set the tempo like them?

One also has to take players' roles and positions into consideration. If Cesc played as a pure number 10 for Real Madrid, he'd do as well as Ozil and get similar stats.

Stats are just used to back up a claim. For me, all you have to do to come to the conclusion that Özil is better than Cesc is to actually watch them both play. Cesc is superb, but Mesut is the best number 10 in the world. He's different gravy.
