looked authoritive in pre season training pictures!!! ooo he must be able to sort the defence out!

bould will be another yes man, aw would not ppoint someone who would question or undermine him.
Speaking to Arsenal.com shortly after arriving in Kuala Lumpur, Szczesny said: "We have a new assistant manager in Steve Bould and he has been doing a lot of defensive work on the training pitch, which has been very good so far I believe, so hopefully we will concede less as well, which is my personal hope anyway."

"We didn't have a lot of luck with injuries to defenders last season. Hopefully this year we can have a settled back four, a strong bench as well, and concede less goals," said Szczesny. "As I said, with the work Steve Bould has been doing so far, it's looking positive."

Part of conceding less is to have good left and right backs, with Sagna out Gibbs and Santos seemingly incapable of playing the position something needs to be done but nothing will be done at least untill until we sell Van Persie, but even then dont expect much as we have already pre spent by acquiring Giroud and Podolski .

I haven't seen us linked with a real live left back since Nigel Winterburn !

True. It's not as if the club, Board, manager or players have ever misled us before, is it?   I mean, just take for example all those lessons they apparently learned from before last season, and the one before that, and the one.... I think you get the picture.  :banghead: :banghead:

Herd is spot on about the new 'Arsenal Way' - it's inculcated in the youth and reserves from the ground up and I fear Bould's also accustomed to this style of play. The initial signs are encouraging though, even if it's not a good idea to read too deeply into them.

I get that Arsenal.com can be a PR machine, but let's not be so cynical to the point of assuming things like "We're training defensively" are PR statements to try to appease the fans. That's just getting a little paranoid.

Of course it's PR some of you just cannot see the bigger pictures out there and the leve4l of deceit employed by the Club .

The Club know full well we are short of defensive cover and that last year our defense was shit however they wont buy the desperately needed quality defenders we need at left back and cover at right back ,they will wait until Metsacker comes back to his Linegan like fitness and then juggle the back four weekly until it all turns to shit with injuries and suspensions!
By saying that Bouldy is working on the defense The Board + Wenger can then absolve themselves of blame when the wheels come off the bus again due to our defensive frailty's.

Similarly Wenger is out there saying he will not buy a midfielder which we badly need touting the return of Diaby as the second coming ,WHY ??? because he has no other choice as the Club will not spend the money to buy a quality midfielder.
When Diaby gets injured on the bumpy pitch in Hong Kong or Bejing who will be left ????????.
Not Wilshere he wont be back this year
Not Rosicky they say he will begin training in 2 months so not fit for 3 or 4 ,
Not Lensbury cos he will most likely be loaned out again as will Ryo .
Not the Dench Boy he aint fit either !
We will be left with Ramsey ,Song,Colquelin and the skillful but injury prone Arteta for most of the season unless you of course class Mr Lardshavin as a midfielder ,which apparently the club now do if u look at the website !

It's not difficult lads please try and keep up !

I think a few people might be missing the point a bit here. Certainly the club lie to us all the time, but I don't buy into they made Chesney say this shit to appease us the fans, simply because the Board don't give a flying fuck about us the fans. Chesney is just a gobby fucker, always has an opinion, always wants to be interviewed. He was most likely asked about defensive training and he just gave HIS opinion on it, albeit careful not to rock the boat and get himself dropped. He's hardly likely to say "Aw yeah it's still a bit shit at the back" is he?

What concerns me is the ammount of REAL impact Bouldy might or might not have. Bouldy is very much a Wenger man who won’t rock the boat - I think even his biggest admirers can admit this after reading a few of his previous statements (and by the very fact that Lord Vader appointed him!).

Hugely important then is where Bouldy comes from as a coach. All the youth teams he was involved in play tippy tappy in the same style as the senior team (as is club policy since Arsene took over).

Sure, having a club-wide style of play was not a bad thing in the days of Henry, Freddie, DB10, Pires and Vieira (when that style was fast aggressive attacking football played on the break at speed – with great protection of the CH’s by top class DM’s) but now that our sub-Barca version of tippy tappy has been proven to be shit for us, it’s worrying that the entire club still plays it.

So I’d imagine an emphasis on tippy tappy will still result in the ethos of solid defending being almost an afterthought in the greater scheme of things, no matter how much work Bouldy does. Our defenders are pushed by Wenger to distribute the ball, to play out of trouble - it's as if the more old school methods of defending (for example; Row Z-ing the ball in an emergency) are frowned upon as "beneath" us, and they probably are frowned upon.

The whole ethos at the club is pass at all costs.

Hopefully Bouldy can at least help them with basic stuff like positioning at set pieces etc but I’d be very surprised if he has any more impact than Pat Rice did.

Fingers crossed, huh? :|

Isn't it amazing that the players are banging on about Bould and his apparent, early influence on current proceedings... perhaps they're sending a cryptic message to the senile bastard in charge, that it should have been done several seasons back and not just because of Rice's retirement.
