Who said anything about racism?Henry Norris 1913 wrote:don't see it as racism it was a fecking joke![]()

I was refering to you just discounting Keane (crunt that he is) as if he was nothing, when he was an absolute top drawer footballer and often matched Paddy in games.
For me Paddy was the better footballer certainly but Keane was also top quality and was probably the better leader. Was still a total fuckpig though.

Re: Vieira and Keane TV documentary
They were the two top midfielders of the Premier era. Yaya Toure is third and then maybe Stevie G. Up to the tunnel incident I thought there was a mutual respect between them, there was a story that Keane told Vieira after the red card incident with Horseface to appeal it. That happened apparently on the pitch. I agree that however many years later it is a waste of time trying to decide who was harder. A backhand compliment to any footballer is that you hate them with a passion but would have them in your team in a heartbeat given the chance. Keane and Drogba are two of those players.
Keane said he hated Arsenal when he played for United..that's how it should be , contrast that with the attitude from Fergie in his latter years, Arsenal didn't bother him they were no longer a threat.

Spiv Neville said something similar. Said he hated Arsenal during the rivalry years because he knew we were the better footballing team, but he also respected us because of that.Bradywasking wrote: Keane said he hated Arsenal when he played for United..that's how it should be , contrast that with the attitude from Fergie in his latter years, Arsenal didn't bother him they were no longer a threat.
I knew we were fucked as a club when Fergie was complimenting us and praising Arsene. As BWK says, we were no longer a threat to him.

You are correctI Hate Hleb wrote:Had this discussion before and much as I admired Keane, I'm sorry but I don't agree with my Irish brothers that Vieira 'bottled it' in the tunnel during their 'confrontation' which then lead to United's victory.![]()
When Keane was giving it the big un, Paddy (out of shot of the camera) shouted back a couple of times "Come on then". Keane then replied something like "Out there, we'll see out there" - and what actually happened? Well from my memory he preceded to spend most of the first half avoiding Vieira!!

Indeed, if you remember, we were on top in that first half and went into the break 2-1 up (could have been 3 but for a poor linesman's decision), with Paddy controlling things. Hardly smacks of someone or indeed the team having been 'intimidated' by the pre-match mouthing off of Keane, does it? But for another of Almunia's classic mistakes, we might have gone on to win that game and people's perceptions (helpfully molded by the media) would most likely be different. As the saying goes: History is written by the WInners.![]()

Re: Vieira and Keane TV documentary
i think it has not been mentioned enough in this thread that roy keane is an enormous self-important stupid looking hypocritical c**t. not because he's irish, or because whatever happened between him and paddy in the tunnel, or anything. he just is. a massive c**t.
now it's settled.
now it's settled.

those were the days, before we used to roll over and have our tummies tickled, some of our current crop would do well to watch that programme to see whats needed to pull on the red and white shirt

Re: Vieira and Keane TV documentary
Good documentary, very insightful.
Best bit was Keane's almost anger that no Arsenal player had fouled Giggs in 1999. Eeverytime I see that goal I still think someone will surely crunch him!

We fucking hate the inbreds from Cork. They come up here and rape all our livestock.

Pretty sure that game was about 3 into the season. Even Coventry were going for the title at that point.clockender1 wrote:I was introduced to Roy Keane in Bryan Robsons bar in Withington just after he moved to Manchester for
Forest. Had a decent chat about Forest and Cork n stuff. He was surprising quiet and didn't drink much.
He wasn't much of a tough guy then...Shorter than me for sure. That stare was a put on.
I hated him too, same way I hated drogba - always did a job on us in vital games. I remember one game where we were going for the title and we outplayed them at Highbury and Keane popped up twice in the box and we lost 2-1. Fucker.
The back story to the tunnel thing was that in the previous game Neville had done one of our lads on the refs blindside and paddy warned him not to do it again. I don't know if paddy shat it but he looked shocke didn't he ?
Those six years were a great rivalry, shame the chavs killed it.

Re: Vieira and Keane TV documentary
It was a great rivalry over an era in which we were by far the two most dominant and superior teams in the league at the time, I thoroughly enjoyed the documentary and thought it was well laid out with some interesting bits, particularly them discussing certain incidents and games between one another. Keane comes across as a bit of a self-centered bastard, but I would expect nothing less. The fact of the matter is he led by example and was a born winner, which is why he achieved so much throughout his career. I was slightly disappointed by how it was sidetracked by the whole Keane/Fergie stuff, but even still it was a good watch.
Vieira came across well (as expected) and picked a good XI from his era, unlike Keane who seemed to be trying to pick any player that ever pissed off Fergie.
Good watch, and I doubt we will have a rivalry and dominance like that from just 2 teams again anytime soon.

I thought it was a very good doco and Patrick came across as a classy guy that could distinguish life from football. I always respected Keane as a hardman but never realised what a tosser he was - regardless of the club he played for.
