It's all a load of Cannonballs in here! This is the virtual Arsenal pub where you can chat about anything except football. Be warned though, like any pub, the content may not always be suitable for everyone.

I'm sure they were exciting at the time given that Perry Como etc were the alternatives, but I don't think they've stood the test of time.
I remember when that ping-pong TV/computer tennis thing came out and the first mobile phones, but it doesn't mean we should look back now and think they are brillliant.
That's a really odd perception, Granada. So according to your theory, nobody should like anything from the past, because we've all moved on. Films, books, art, music. Surely a lot of recent music is here because of The Beatles, Stones, The Who, The Doors, Led Zeppelin? The march of technology has nothing to do with it.
Also, to say you dislike The Beatles, especially anything Paul McCartney was involved in, well that's pretty much all of it then?
Listen to the albums, not just the hits and I'm sure you'll find something there. Revolver, Sgt Pepper, Let It Be, all have good stuff on them.
My point was not about whether music was considered good or bad in the past but whether we should still consider it good.
I think that the Stones, Doors etc produced fantastic music that still sounds fantastic today (original, interesting, exciting), but with the Beatles I think their 'God-like genius' status is not warranted.
As an example I was 16 when the Sex Pistols appeared with Bill Grundy and my life changed from that moment. I followed anything and everything punk / new wave and I thought nearly all of it was fantastic (especially live). Looking back I now realise that not too many of those bands have stood the test of time. The Pistols, Weller (not including his recent self-indulgent shit), the Clash etc definitely. The Gash, Dead Boys, Sham 69 not so much!
i don't really 'hate' any music. In the right context i can listen and appreciate anything really.
I thought i hated coldplay and chris martin to the extent id switch off the radio if it came on in the car! BUT i went to see them at wembley a few years ago and have since seen them at the grove and Glastonbury and actually really enjoyed their gigs! Still never listen to any of there stuff but live they incredibly good. I love oasis and to be honest most of the time they looked like they couldn't be fucked (real rock and roll i guess?)
In short, if theres a bar and you have the right stimulants, i can get down with anything
also, i don't buy albums or listen to anything other than electronic music really, so where as i don't sit and listen to bastille say, i would happily go and see them live and experience what they do. I love festivals and if you have an open mind you can try out different bands and step into a world/culture/scene which may be completely alien to you in the 'real' world.
I bet if you asked most blokes if they would like to pay to see beyonce they would turn their noses up (including me), but hand on heart seeing her close glastonbury a few years ago with 100 thousand people was one of the best live performances I've ever seen.
I love how all the music i live for and play as a dj is literally most people on heres worst nightmare
I agree that a lot of rap music isn't in my taste. But I like listening to Eminem, he genuinely is a lyrical genius and is one of the very few who doesn't talk about money, cars and all of that shit. I like some of Jay Z's earlier stuff from the Black Album and Tupac also released some great music.
On a side note, no one really believes that 'illuminati' bullshit do they? Seems more like marketing through controversy to me
Anyway, I don't really 'hate' much music, probably that rinse and repeat Taylor Swift dogshit and Justin Bieber purely for being a twat to those who he gains his money from.
Yankee_Gooner_Dandee wrote:And on the rap debate. There's quite the conspiracy theory that the "illuminati" who run this country, only release rap that they want to release so that it gives the public an image of black America that they want everyone to have. They control public perception through record labels, radio stations, tv, etc... A lot of black rappers believe this theory which is why the independent labels are where the real quality stuff comes from.
As for Hip Hop and the Illuminati, I totally believe that certain forms of Hip Hop have been promoted at the expense of others.
Weird hypersexualisation has infiltrated the music.
But it is mainly for political reasons - "Cointelpro".
Anything spawned by X-Factor,Pop Idol etc. Simon Cowell has vitually destroyed the chance of independent bands making any impression on the charts, which are now nothing more than a rolling advert for his francise.
I don't mind most music but got now 86 for my kids and all but two of the songs on disc 2 are utter shit. There is a mixture of genres so its not one type of music, it's just bland repetitive shit. Only track 6 and i think its paloma faith track "big when i was little" are listenable. God I must be getting old
Detest Beatles mccartney especially nirvana were very overrated cheer up for fucks sake miserable twats. Manufactured bollocks. Anything that's on commercial radio and radio 1, indie luvvies. Just fuck off - radio 1 tried rock music last year for a week and probably played Coldplay and U2 just get the fuck away.

There is pictures on TV News of people queuing up for days to buy tickets (do it online and you don't become a Super fan on TV) I would rather watch paint dry than listen to him , or look at him for that matter, for two or three hours. There will be 400,000 Stetson hats and 400,00 check shirts sold in Ireland this Summer...
Absolutely infuckingcredible how the Irish drool over this shite, they really do have a secret desire to be fucking yanks. There was some place in Tyrone where the fucking idiots were queuing for 7 fucking days for tickets.
There are loads of dickheads from our work going to see this shite, including the guy who sits opposite me in the office (actually a good lad), he is twenty fucking six for fuck sake, it is simply wrong to want to go and see this bastard dross.
I told him "there will be people there with fucking cowboy hats, checked fucking shirts and cowboy boots" "is that where you think you should be spending your time?"

Even worse than the wannabe rednecks are the "valley girls". Dear Christ the amount of times I've heard bimbo 20 year old birds on the train and all they can say is;
"And I was like, and she was like, and then like, we were all like, just like, y'know, like."
