I agree with Bergkamp genius, the problems of last season have not been rectified. The problems were lack of a world class keeper, a dominant centre-back who is good in the air and a holding midfield player and Wenger has done nothing to rectify any of this! We've signed another centre half that can't head the ball (according to Tony Adams)!

Sorry but if he ain't good enough for Chavski how the fcuk does that make him good enough for us.
Our priority should be to sort out the obvious defensive frailties from last season. Vermaelen is a start, now we need a decent defensive midfielder who isn't afraid to stick his foot in. Apparently Cattermole is being mentioned.I know a lot of people don't think he's Arsenal quality but i think he could certainly do a job for us. We have enough pretty boy lightweights in midfield. He could be the player to do the ugly work in midfield and he's proven in the premiership.

Diarra wasnt deemed good enough for Chelesa but how we would love to have him now. That said I agree with you that he doesnt appear good enough - I have never watched us play them and thought 'fuck they are bringing on Kalou'. In fact I doubt we have many players that scare the opposition with the exception of ArshavinBRAZILLIANT 19 wrote:Sorry but if he ain't good enough for Chavski how the fcuk does that make him good enough for us.![]()

Yes with hindsight Diarra may well have been the answer but if he didn't want to wait around there isn't much you can really do about that.Still don't rate Kalou though. One of the many rumours about this morning was that we were interested in Vucinic from Roma. I know we've lost Greedybarndoor but i still think we should be looking to sort out defensive areas first. We do still have quite a few attacking options with RvP,Arshavin,Bendtner,Walcott Vela but still look lightweight though the centre.
I read that story in the rag this morning and prayed to fcuk that it isnt true
The guy is nowhere near good enough and I dont give a flying fcuk if he costs 7m or 77m cos if he aint good enough then he aint good enough regardless of the price.
Brazilliant seriously ??
Cattermole ??
I would bring back fcuking hillier ahead of him

Brazilliant seriously ??

How far have we fallen?? after all, Wenger's strategy has pretty much always been to go after top club drop outs, cheap players and unknowns.SteveO 35 wrote: Ask yourself how far we've fallen when we're looking at fucking Salomon Kalou. Which top 3 drop-out do we want next - Sami Hyypia, Gary Neville, Shevchenko ?
Henry was a Juve reject... Vieira a Milan reject... Pires was cheap... Freddie was relatively unkown.... Bergkamp (a Rioch signing) was an Inter reject... Kanu was an Inter reject... Overmars was cheap, and injury prone... Campbell was on a free... Sagna was relatively unknown... so was Reyes... etc. etc.
In fact, one of the few occasions Wenger has actually signed a player of real calibre and reputation, was a few months ago when we signed Arshavin!
Don't get me wrong, I guess you're saying we should be after bigger, better players.... but this is Wenger's style. It's Arsenal's style. And as it's always been Wenger's style, I don't think it can now be used as a sign of how far we've fallen... as it was also the strategy that brought us so much success!
I don't like it, but it's nothing new.
If Kalou turns out to be the next Henry I'll be the first to raise a glass.g88ner wrote:How far have we fallen?? after all, Wenger's strategy has pretty much always been to go after top club drop outs, cheap players and unknowns.SteveO 35 wrote: Ask yourself how far we've fallen when we're looking at fucking Salomon Kalou. I don't think he will either, but if Wenger is genuinely interested (and it's not just paper talk) then I guess we shouldn't dismiss him so readily. After all, Wenger has proved to be pretty damn good at spotting quality, young ATTACKING talent in the past!SteveO 35 wrote:If Kalou turns out to be the next Henry I'll be the first to raise a glass.

Are you talking about kaba diawara there ? Or maybe that latvian beanpole that we had ? mendez even ? All prime examples of the wenger talent spotting that you refer to

The sad thing is that I would nearly take any of them ahead of kalou anyway
Well I did say nearly

I actually meant Christopher Wreh, or Fabian Caballero, or Aliadiere...

(although Wreh more than justified his signing during 1997-98, even if was a very average player!
