How should we line up next season?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Although Walcott and Sanchez will be largely interchangeable and there will still be a significant role for Giroud in certain games.

Perfect !!

Wilshere doesn't really have a role and this is a huge part of his problem. He's not a DM, AMC or box-to-box midfielder, he just basically chases the ball and then when he gets it puts his head down and runs down dark alleys. He is too good and the game has moved on far too much for him to fashion himself as a midfield terrier. In this squad I'm not sure what role he can fill as DM is the one we are crying out for but I can't see him there.

One aspect of what is so pleasing about Sanchez (after him looking pretty fucking good at football!) is that he will actually slot right into our system.

Messi, Neymar and Sanchez were pretty small together.

Giroud is pretty tall and is a fanny with it so reckon 3 short arses that are dangerous is more appealing so long as we play to their strengths.

True but (a) barca play in a 2 horse race so competition isn't much (b) the prem league is far, far more physical than la liga

My only reservation is set pieces, we have quite a small team. I think to play that we need a physical presence in midfield. The back four isn't particularly small, but neither is it a big one.

If City play Aguero, Nasri and Milner/Navas is the same as us really.

They have the option Dzeko, erm we have Giroud. It's the idea of putting Giroud down the middle that makes us still so poor.

Also Liverpool, Sturridge, Suarez, Sterling..wasn't very big

I don't think Wilshere is a starter by any means. Good enough to run with the ball as you said but he doesn't do enough in either AMC or DMC capacity to fulfill dislodging Ramsey and a new DM.

What I would like to see, as I am not sure how Wenger will line us up.
Assumes all players are fit, and that we have signed a new right back.
I would like to see other signings but will wait to see if we make them.

Send Miyaiachi, Sanogo and Afobe on loan as they could do with regular competitive games.
Have not included Diaby until I can see he is fit for any significant length of time.
Keep an eye on young Dan Crowley for the League Cup.

There are many combinations that can be made though, because numerous players can play in two or more positions.

First choice: Power and Pace

----------------------Sanchez---------------

Oxlade-Chamberlain-----Ozil----------Walcott

----------Ramsey---------Flamini-------------

Gibbs-----Koscielny-----Mertesacker----New Right Back

-------------------Szczesney----------------

Second Choice: Less pace, but passing ability and shots from distance

----------------------Giroud---------------

Podolski-----------Cazorla------Rosicky--

-----------Wilshere-----------Arteta------

Monreal-----Miquel-----Vermaelen----Jenkinson

-------------------Martinez----------------

Third Choice: The youngsters, in a 3-2-3-2 formation

---------Joel Campbell----Akpom-----------

Eisfeld----------Zelalem----------Gnabry

-----------Toral--------Coquelin------

----Ajayi-----Hayden----Bellerin---

-------------------Iliev----------------

With players we currently have;
--------------------Szceszney--------------
Jenkinson --- Koscielny----Mertesacker------Gibbs
----------------------Wilshere---------------------------
---------------Ramsey-------Chamberlain-------------
------Sanchez---------Ozil-----------Cazorla----------
------------------------Theo------------------------------

If we can complete Debuchy and Khedira signings then Jenko and Jack will make way.
The front four will be dynamic and interchangeable, ragging most PL defences all over the place. We kept 17 clean sheets last season, it was the lack of firepower and pace that cost us the title in the end. Just need to keep our best players fit....
