My thoughts entirely......................

It says something when our support only wants to go to these games because its a new ground that most haven't been to rather than because of the football.

Not giving a fuck about the CL is fine, but I don't see the argument that it's because we're not gonna win it. Why then bother watching the Arsenal in any major competition, like the PL :)

I want to win every match, and can't help caring, and I would still care, even though losing would be acceptable, in a scenario where there was some sort of promised light at the end of the tunnel of defeat, meaning the sacking of Wenger, but that dream is but a dream.

0-5 Arsenal

it will be interesting how Martinez gets on in goal.

I don't think that Chesney will be a big loss - I don't actually think he is much better than Almunia

The league is a weekly thing, and despite the humilitions we suffer at the hands of the big teams, we win alot of our league games, you cant say the same for CL. To actually win the CL, you have to spend money, and have a good manager, we have neither. Our club treats the CL as a cashcow, which is why 4th place means so much to us and why this has brainwashed the fans into thinking , its success if we finish 4th.

in % terms we probably win a greater proportion of our CL matches than our league matches (so far this season 2 out of 4 compared with 2 out of 8 in the league) The problem is we lose to the first decent team we come up against EVERY season

I think you have to add the frustration that most years we are in a good position to win the group with only one or two group games left and Arsene then throws away a silly game so that we finish second and THEN get knocked out by the first top team we meet. Groundhog season, every season.

Plus the fact that however shit things are going, it is still absolutely fucking lovely to pull one over on the Scum, or on Liverpool, United or Chelsea (not that we have often enough!). Whereas the performance in Dortmund last year was our best in ages as far as I'm concerned, a great result and ultimately still completely MEH

I agree with what DB says, but I also believe that most fans despise the cl because purely qualifying for it is the height of our clubs ambition  It's not that we don't care about it because we haven't a hope of winning it, but is more a case of losing interest in it cos the club show no ambition to win it

I would be quite happy to finish in 8th this season - people will argue that we won't be able to keep our best players if we ain't in champs lge but do you know what......I don't give a fcuk. Apart from Sanchez there is not 1 player in our squad that is irreplaceable - ozil has world class ability but no guts or passion and will never be a success with le cock in charge :( Of course some will argue that we won't be able to attract the top quality players if we not in cl, but I ask you does that really matter ? We have ozil and Sanchez and le cock has absolutely no idea of to maximise their talents, so why give him more talented players to destroy ? These players will leave our club sooner or later (probably sooner in podolski and ozil's case) and they will leave with bad memories and a bad impression of our club, when they should actually be blaming wenker for what's happening

Not overly excited about this game, I remember we left Highbury to compete at the top end of competitions like this and the Premier League, little did we know then that just being in it would be enough for the club. Expect a win here, comfortable win made uncomfortable in the end by us.

Interestingly, the only time we ever reached the CL final "amongst Europe's elite" was.... just before we moved into the Conglomerates.

So it was deffo worth cashing in our history, heritage and traditions, huh? :barscarf:

You and I miss the good old days Herd, 20 of them, 20 of us, bit of fisticuffs outside the train station (gentlemanly conduct, knives left at the door) old bill nowhere in site, claret everywhere! Marvellous
