I think Raheem Sterling is probably a good case in point,lazy,overhyped,then even worse after his huge money move to City,I guess becoming an instant multi-millionaire will do that to a young man,Guardiola seems to have changed him though,maybe this is where Wenger needs to step-up,and actually nurture our young talent further,and make them justify their 200k a week,( ) because I'm sure Guardiola would soon get the best out of someone like Bellerin.

People are suggesting paying Bellerin 100-150k a week who is defensively suspect and can't cross? A promising talent, yes, but that's it. When these little shits start performing consistently all season and win the big trophies then they can talk. It was generally accepted that wally had many shortcomings, but there were a lot of fans (gobshites) who argued that the club had to continue to buy into his potential and rather than allow him to fulfill his potential elsewhere, we should bite the bullet and pay him big bucks for what he would deliver in the future - I guess we can all recognize how that turned out
Fast forward a few years and we are now in same position with bellerin - if fans believe that his crossing and defending isn't at the required level yet, then why would they advocate paying him top dollar ? He def looks like he can be a real player for us in the future, but what happens if he, like so many others before him, fail to deliver on that potential ? We would then find ourselves overpaying yet another young player.
Personally I would support the idea of giving the kid a healthy payrise, but for me that shouldn't be to the point where he thinks he is better than he actually is

How are people genuinely missing this point? We pay over the odds for players that haven't really done much but show potential and when 9/10 they flop they can't be shifted. Instead, let's give them massive wages so they're happy to win next to nothing here just in the ridiculous fear they won't do it somewhere else. Players with any ambition won't give two shits about the wages they're on, they just want to win the big trophies.

Says a lot about Ozil and Sanchez if they would rather take the money knowing they are unlikely to compete at the highest level.

If Barca do ever want Bellerin to be their first-choice RB then it won't make a fucking jot of difference that he is on 100k a week here.

I probably wouldn't have an issue with that sort of money if it was a 6-year deal and we were actually willing to hold him to it. Reality is it will be a 4 or 5 year deal which means we will get pressured into giving him whatever he demands in 2 or 3 years, on top of which if the opportunity comes to move to Barca, Bayern etc he will ask to move and we will sell him without any real leverage.

I like Bellerin and think he can really push on under new guidance in a better system, but I think that "one of The best RBs in the world" is a bit carried away.
