I have a feeling Emery will go for a 4-3-3 4-5-1 hybrid. Lacazette and Miki on the wings with PEA upfront, Ramsey, Torriera & Xhaka in midfield, Ramsey with the license to go forward. I dont think Ozil should start. Bellerin & Monreal should still get forward, with Torriera & Xhaka sliding across to cover when they do. Sokratis & Mustafi to start at centre half. Leno in goal. I think that team can protect itself whilst still offer enough penetration to cause City problems. One things for sure, it wont be like the Wenger days were we pick a team with no defensive plan or structure in place & we do adhoc defending.
Also, PEA Must play off Stones shoulder all game. That guy switches off religiously.
Monreal has had zero game time since may
No way ozil gets dropped
Sadly cech will start in goals
Xhaka has the defensive discipline of an ass, and will provide zero protection for any full back pushing forward
Personally I would go with 4-3-2-1 (the old christmas tree formation with ozil sitting in behind bangabang and lacazette, and with toerreira, sideshow bob and xhaka (although I would prefer maitland niles in there) filling the midfield positions
That is all
As much as I hate to agree with bald bastards I have to agree with augie on most of that.
Drop Ozil but play the shit Xhaka, the unsettled (and mostly shit Ramsey) and the unproven in the PL Torriera??!!! AND play BOTH of the useless Bellend and the past it Monreal???!! WTF are you on Wilson? Methamphetamine??
So no Ozil, Xhaka, Ramsey, Bellerin, Monreal,Torriera . So who are you going to play? Kolasinac is injured so it cant be him. Maybe we can draft in a left back from the reserve team, or better yet, we can forego a left back & put no one in front of De Bruyne!!
Torriera spent 2 years playing in Serie A & started for Uruguay at the World Cup, yes he is unproven in the PL (means nothing by the way, (Messi would be unproven in the PL)), the only way he gets PL experience is to.........play in the PL.
I have no idea what your talking about or your thought process for picking a team.
Jesus weeping Christ. You are the one saying drop Ozil. Notice my use of the question mark. That means I'm questioning your logic ffs.
My point is you cannot play a midfield composed of Xhaka Ramsey and Torriera whilst dropping the only truly creative player we have. You have to play Ozil PLUS any two of the others based on form or ability to work in the new system.
AM-N is a midfielder but is still a better left back than Monreal. The point again if you read the fucking post is you cannot play TWO dud backs like Bellend and Monreal and end up with nothing coming in from the wings.
Sometimes I think you started watching football about three years ago.

Christ that's the best bit. The point is you can't throw a player into the mix unless he's going into a reasonably solid established set up like when we threw Pires in. An inexperienced (in PL terms) Torriera alongside a shit Xhaka and shit Ramsey would be a recipe for a 0-5 loss. If you play Torriera then you need the ability of an Ozil in there too and preferably only one of either Xhaka or Ramsey because both piss possession away cheaply and repeatedly.
Ozil's creativity is less important in games against teams like City. I would prefer a stronger middle and work ethic out wide, rather than Ozil's finesse passing.
Why are fans so interested in the same old Wenger stuff of picking the same teams & formations? Against the top 6, we should be more worried about not conceding, rather than scoring. How many times did we get hammered due to over eagerness to get forward & complete disregard for defending. Whenever I would watch Chelsea play United, United play City, or Chelsea play City, I would see an arm wrestle rather than a football match. We might not create a chance or have a shot on target for 70 mins, but if our first chance leads to going 1-0 in the 70th minute, then great.
Im less interested in 'playing football' & im more about making this a contest, not a spectacle, not 'entertainment' as Wenger would call it. I wanted entertainment last night, so went and saw Mission Impossible. I dont want to be thrilled against City, I want to win, or not lose.

Huh? Who are these fans "so interested in the same old Wenger stuff"?? Who said anything about "entertainment" or a "spectacle"?? Why does it have to be either total attack or total defending?? There is an intelligent middle ground where you are disciplined in defence, but also create your own chances. It's about common sense. That midfield would struggle to create anything but would also fail miserably to protect the CH's. Xhaka is useless defensively, as is Ramsey. Torriera again is an unknown quantity as yet. If you sit back against citeh they will destroy you. Their weakness is their defence. You simply cannot surrender the midfield to them. And Bellend and Monreal are not only poor going forward, both are absolutely hopeless defensively.

I understand the thought process of your post, but then you go and contradict yourself with your team selection You talk about grinding out a result (which in essence is what you are saying), but then you pick a team with bangabang, lacazette, mikki AND ramsey ? Where is the defensive thought process there ? Do you believe that the 2 wingers will put in a shift defensively ? Do you honestly believe that ramsey is (a) positionally disciplined enough to play in your safety first gameplan and (b) that he wont lose possession time and time again ?
Playing 3 centre mids (torreira, sideshow bob and xhaka) would do a far, far better job defensively for your game plan. Even if monreal is fit I would still play maitland niles in there. Playing 2 strikers might just stop citeeh pushing their full backs forward at will cos you certainly wouldnt want to leave 2 centre backs in a 2 v 2 with those two strikers.
Anyway the difference between my team and yours is that you talk about playing defensively but still play 4 attacking players, whilst I talk about something similar (with counter attacking football) and only include 3 attacking players
Sorry everyone but i see nothing but a City win. Not saying we will play poorly just that City are too good for most teams in this league, including us.
We aren't on their level due to years of going backwards and its not going to turn around all of a sudden.
1-3

Citeeh are miles ahead of EVERYONE else for sure - I had hoped that we might sneak a positive result out of it due to emery's new gameplanning, but looking at the runaround the chavs gave us in the first half last week, and the runaround citeeh gave them last Sunday, has me seriously worried about Sunday's game

I agree and I don't think anyone is kidding themselves and seriously expecting us to win. The sensible money is on citeh.
But.....
The PL does throw up strange results and if they drop their game and we can raise ours then certainly a draw and maybe even a win is possible. Possible but not probable.

DB mate, you seem to have gone all rogue lately
I dunno Lefty mate I just find as I get older I have a shorter (steady now ) fuse for horseshit.
Anyhow, RE the result, I think we could play 14 players and still concede at least 3.
I've only watched us v the chavs pre season on the new channel (that tbf had decent commentary ) and first half we were shocking, play like that against city and we will be 5-0 down.
The new Bob in town looks decent but I wouldn't play him against city, their pressing game is excellent and he will get caught picking up the ball just in front of our centre halves with 3 players hounding him down and cutting off a pass.
Herr letargic will play so it will 10 v the best team in Britain .
A few pretty passing patterns through.
Quote:"Whenever [Bayern*] played against Arsenal, we played over him because we knew that was their weak point".
*Since 2014 v Bayern W1 L4 D 1 F6 A22 .Lots of beautiful passes though
Quote:“Nine men are torturing themselves for 90 minutes and he’s going for a walk".
Quote: "He has been playing shit for years," Hoeness told Sport Bild. "He last won a tackle before the 2014 World Cup. And now he and his shitty performance hide beyond this picture.[translation -it's even worse now]

BTW our opps want him to play..embarrassing eh..
Why do you feel the need to post the same quotes on different threads, we get it, you don't want ozil to play, let it go
