WHAT HAVE WE LEARNED

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I was far too angry to post anything last night, if I was going to blame one person it will be fucking Gilberto, he's fat lazy and useless now. I can't believe how much the commentry team always rates him!

He was at fault in the first leg for not tracking back and was at fault in the second leg for not tracking back, their 5th goal was a comedy of errors from him, two fucking slow tackle attempts followed by a leisurely walk back as lennon jogged past him!

Fucking useless, I hope he never plays in an Arsenal shirt again cso he's a bloody liability

Magic, you think eboue has done a good job on the wing :?: :?: Are you mad :?:  And what exactly are you basing this blind faith in theo on ? That he is like a greyhound on speed doesnt make him a top class footballer and while(hopefully) he will turn out to be a star for us he certainly aint anywhere near that now and is never going to be by getting i5 mins every 2 or 3 weeks  As for bert  I know he has been a good servant for this club but if you think he still has the legs and interest to play for this club then you are kidding yourself. Finally your assessment of the strikers need to be reassessed - you say that none have let us down but rvp is injured so often we may not even recognise him when he returns, bedtner could have cost us stupidly at toffees and then fights with ade last night in front of 30,000 gloating y*ds  Hardly the stuff to make us all feel good going forward is it and I havent even mentioned the goalkeeping situation

We have learned Gilberto is finished as a first team player for Arsenal,if your legs have gone you just cant play at this level.Sorry but sometimes the truth hurts.

Diaby-what can you say? some misguided fans still believe he is the new Vieira,Dont make me laugh. He holds on to the ball too long and has he forgotten how to tackle?

Walcott-I"m beginning to think he is never going to make it at Arsenal.Last night did nothing again and was subbed again.Unless he is loaned out soon to gain confidence i dont think he will be an Arsenal player in 12 months time

Bendtner- Keeps telling us how good he is but fails to produce on the pitch.Put up or shut up

The goalkeeping situation is a disaster waiting to happen, Gilberto is playing in another time zone, Diaby is playing in the 1960's, Bendtner is playing up his own ass, Gallas played a tribute match for Phil, Fabregas looks like Superman who's carrying kryptonite in his pockets, Denilson plays like Ray Wilkins and Theo....theo, theo, theo (in sober fatherly way)

Other than that, can't wait to see the new lad Van Persie.

Good to see you back Galasso. Have you been away?

I had a meeting last night and was desperate to get back home for the last half hour when my son sent me a text 4-0 so I divertred to my local without a TV and more importantly no scum. So I did not have the pleasure   :? of watching that debacle and perhaps thats why I am not so depressed this morning

Before people start sending exocets in my direction I am not one of the "everthing is wonderful" brigade, but one of the ways I cope with life is to only worry about the things I can influence and one thing is for sure I can't influence le boss to spend some dosh. However lets look at the situation.

A number of people have commented that the Spuds were up for it last night and we weren't.
Arsenal playing a team of young lads in a competition that we clearly regard as 4th priority. Yes they should have had more fight (and not with each other   :x ) but its not that critical.
Spuds have no chance of getting a European place let alone winning the league, still even a small chance they will be relegated  :D  . Carling Cup is their only realistic chance of playing European football next seaon. They have Manure away in the FA 8) only a shame they can't both lose. They're still in the UEFA but this is now like the CC a cup that most fans don't register unless their team is in it. Hand on heart, did you watch those finals over the last 10 years apart from when we were in them? (I know there are a few addicts out there who will have doen but I'd say 90% won't have and the rest should get a life :) ). And finally they hadn't beaten us in 21 games and realised this was going to be their best chance. So its no surprise to me that they were more motivated.

I have said on here many times that we give the scum too much respect. They are not our rivals and haven't been for many years. I know its difficult to lose the genetic hatred of these people but I find much more satisfaction in feeling sorry for them. Beating our reserves for the first time in 22 games in a 4th rate competition is like winning the cup final and European cup for them poor bastards.

We are joint top in the league, with a slightly easier run in than Manure, playing an out of sorts Milan in the last 16 of the CL, and have Newcastle at home in the FA Cup. I think we have been quite lucky the way fixtures have fallen with injuries and that african cup thing, in that we had, and will have, players out when we have relatively easier games. We should be back to full strength for the critical months of March and April. One area I part company with some of the pessimists on here is that I believe our full strength squad is capable of at least one of the remaining trophies.

Finally be gentle with me  I'm one of the oldest farts on here   Oh and I wear glasses

Eboue gives cover to the defence and has set up a few goals, he isn't Hleb or Ronaldo but he hasn't done badly since he has adapted. As for Theo, when he has played well for Arsenal he has looked really good and he has been on form for the U21's (pity Pearce doesn't have a club job as well).

Sure, sell Gilberto or loan out Denilson till the summer and bring in another holding midfielder, I think we have places that money could be better spent on.

Ok RVP has been injured, let us forget then when fit he has played very well for us. Bentendar, ok he has let us down at times but he also shown himself to be a good striker, he has scored against Prem sides, he has scored in Europe and while not set the world alight, certainly like having him as an option. But if scoring goals against Spurs, Newcastle and others isn't what you want, I understand.

You mean the keeping situation where we have Germany's number one still to get back into the side?

Totally agree Gilberto is finished. Sad but true. :( Maybe the Copa America exertions broke him; more likely the decision to give Willie the Club Captaincy then ignore Bert for Fabianski.

Surely the main lesson from last night is that Arsene has built 2 teams but the personnel are not yet interchangeable. The mixture we watched in so much pain last night have not played together sufficiently, a view supported by Martin Samuel today in the Times who suggested the presence of experienced players added little. Maybe also explains what happened between Ade and Nick.

I thought Wenger seemed irritated rather than upset when interviewed. I think he sensed the media were not going to lose such a heaven-sent opportunity to go to town on Spuds First X1 beating us in a competition described by Arsene as "a low priority competition for our youth team" or words to that effect - which of course they have done.

Magic's pretty much got it right - those who think last night is anything more than one embarrassing result against our arch-rivals ignore the results the same players got in the League Cup against Newcastle, Sheff Utd (away), Blackburn (away) and Spurs (home). And that's without mentioning the league or the early CL group games.

I disagree on Theo though - at best, he's developing slowly. He is only 18 though and he may yet make it, but for me he's not shown enough to convince me that he's a cert for success.

I would like a signing or two, especially a left-winger and possibly a striker. In the summer we'll obviously need a keeper as well, and having lost Diarra we need to get Flamini tied down on a contract asap but I still don't see the need to panic.

guys i understand you wish more english players in the team, but i think that thje presion on Arsene made him do this, and as u seen this was crap, Fergie, etc etc are our enemies, they dont know what is the best for us, this is a team and is not english, but is Arsenal.
Theo has no style and no soul pf the superstar.
Hoyte bla bla aint worth talking about him including traore as well.
Gilberto is old he sgone and how the fucking way he can cope with a bunch of kids, this goes with gallas also. this team mixing was (an old balkanian word) "shit with flowers". Youth area youth and seniors are seniors.
Also why not have Bergkamp, and Henry around to teach the strikers about style and profile. Same goes with ex klas midfielders and CB, how about having Tony Adams around.
Maybe i think diferent from ya but i still support the team and no mater what hapens i will support it, eaven if we keap loose from the spuds every game.
And dont unrate spuds, they are capable of beating Chelsea, even and Manure.
Also something aint right inside our team, players aint hapy.
- Where is V. Persie? (injured) eeeemmmmmmmm dont think so.
- Why Fab aint playing the same level as he can?
- Etc etc.

Maybe im wrong but if Arsene had a tema of all reserves and youths the gam,e might be diferent.

Hoyte's a good reliable right back, just not a very good centreback, Walcott has potential as does Troare (some believe he can be better then Clichy), patience is required. Arsene has always been his own man, if he was going to bow to pressure he would have launched £30 million bids for players he didn't want or need

Mixing youth with senior players? Well it worked to the extent that we got to three semi's in three, the older players can give a steadying hand while the youngsters learn their trade.

Being able to do what Henry does makes him a great player but can he teach others to do it? Henry going has helped the team by his own admission and he wanted to go so keeping him on. Tony Adams maybe, his time at Wycome was hardly a success but he seems to be doing well at Portsmouth

Nobody here is saying "lets not support the team" so no idea where you got that idea from.

Van Persie was rushed back and hurt his thigh again, these things happen and we know he isn't the quickest to heal. Maybe Cesc is off form? It happens.

Yeah, we might not have got past Newcastle had we done that
