How funny you are.

As someone that has a sister-in-law who is Chinese (from Hong Kong) I find this unacceptable and offensive. English is her second language and the way she says certain words are totally endearing and lovely.

I'll pre-empt the expected accusations by saying I'm not being WOKE and I'm not wumming. I genuinely find this is in bad taste.

I also have a cousin who is from the Basque region of France. Augie was recently censured for referring to Arteta as a Basque cûnt. I didn't find this offensive as Arteta is indeed Basque and the only offending word was cûnt, which I also had no issue with. I'm far from beining overly sensitive or someone that is offended easily.

Keep any thoughts of apologies or justifications to yourselves as I'm not the least bit interested in salving your conscience. Any such replies will certainly not be truthful or heartfelt anyway. You've shown your true colours.

To say that it's only banter really doesn't make it OK.

We all have accents pertaining to where we either were Born and / or have lived for a certain amount of our lives...


Frank and his mates used to Do Banter about my accent when I used to meet them in Laaaandaaahn for Arsenal games (before he - understandably - stopped going to Arsenal)..

I can only imagine the Carnage of the Banter if a load of us were to actually Meet up for a game ( Ooooh! Now There's An Idea! ) - The Pre-match drinking etc - The piss taking of each other and maybe there might be some banter about accents, I don't know... But the banter above on the Chinese person/s speaking English was in No Way intended to insult or put down said persons. I only know a few words of Cantonese (taught to me by a friend who works as a translator) and she always laughs when I (try and) speak Cantonese, because of my British inflections on those words and phrases.

Also there is a difference between online/forum banter / Mickey taking and actually doing such a thing to someone's face - Something none of us would do.

I dunno, maybe Clummo's right... But also to call someone an Arsewipe is also purposely intended as an insult ...Maybe Arsewipe in Chinese sounds or comes across better... I dunno

It just seems it's got to the point where if we ever so slightly veer off the PC highway we get called on it.... But when I visit friends etc who live in other parts of the world - They will often say something about my accent and I just say "What Accent?"


Some us work in environments where the humour / banter can sometimes appear "dark" to outsiders, but it is fully understood that it is ONLY for the purposes of being able to laugh and make light of sometimes HORRENDOUS situations and experiences....

The thing is there. are some people who have never seen or worked in the Underbelly of life, so when they meet it and those who are in it up to their eyes every day they are shocked by the humour... Often it can be a way of coping and dealing with something that otherwise can Haunt you.

So for now I shall just say: "Shàng āsēn nà".
