Mikael Silvestre

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

As Lee Dixon says when asked if he was any good he said he just showed them his medals.Silvestre has tons of them.
He will be signed as a squad player who can cover for CH or left back.Senderos has had too many chances and has always fucked up.Sell him to the Geordies

sunderland are in for him and keane just said on ssn he expects to make 3-4 signings in the next 24-48 hours, maybe he is one of them, if not and does sign for arsenal then i expect he will be in a centre half partnership with gallas and pushing toure into centre midfield

I'm not sure it's true. Sir Wenger said he's going to sign a midfielder, didn't he?

750K for Silvestre is pinuts, but is he half as good as Kolo? I'm not too sure. I would love to see Djourou getting more chances.

I think we won't sign him, but we'll have to wait and see.

Somewhat of an over reaction Gus?

I was merely suggesting the possibility, not stating a wish.

Might be possible that he knows Wenger through French Connection. Wenger knows he is a bit crocked, but has enough left to be backup.

So he has told Wenger he is thinking of going into coaching after retirement.

So he is brought in as much as a player who can help Senderos, Djourou and Song with their positioning, as a player in his own right. An experienced head with a knowledge of organisining a back four. A "defensive coach", rather than a replacement for Rice and Primorac. A bit like Martin Keown did when he was brought in fro a couple of months to show the kids how to tackle.

Then when he does hang up his boots he can officialy take his coaching badges

Push Song up into midfield and use Silvestre as cover in the 2 positions?

Just heard he is at Highbury House now, looks like we getting him on a free transfer....... Watch this space! Still undecided about him though!

He may not be as good as Toure but he may be a better partner for Gallas than Kolo,And at the end of the day we are looking for a CH partnership which was better than last season.

I wish we would sign Given next

Yes he is experienced and yes he has won loads of medals but he hasnt been a regular at manure for fcuk knows how long  Is that what we have sunk to now - signing rejects from clubs that used to be viewed as our rivals ? I would have no problem with wenger signing a young player from any of our rivals if wenger thinks he can help them develop but if manure are happy to let him go to us then they obviously believe that with his injuries and age he is no longer good enough

Yes we need more experience and a ball winner both in midfield and centre back but I honestly dont feel this guy is the answer to any of these needs
