Although i dont agree with you on Almunia.Yesterday may have been his first mistakes of the season(i dont think he was blameless at Anfield though) we all know it wont be his last mistake. He is not top class,he never has been and that is the problem. We should have a world class keeper not a keeper who wouldnt get a game for Spain if the top 50 keepers in Spain got wiped out.We need a keeper who commands his box who the defence has confidence in.With Almunia we are just waiting for the next mistake to happen which it will. And the blame for that is Wenger
I agree to some extent but again if the amount of cash the manager was allowed to use was in fact reduced the past several years, and as importantly the wage structure rebooted toward reducing how much and how many "top players" we pay isimply may not have been possible to get a superior keeper of the type we want here. Keepers come cheap largely even most decent to very good ones in terms of fees. But they may not play for the wages we have structured them to receive no matter what fee we are able or willing to pay their clubs.

The wage issue casts a huge shadow over the manager and the teams me can build, and more importantly perhaps, retain(Sol Campbell told ESPN it was the reason he left this summer we know Edu left because the club dicked him around about a new and improved deal, Flamini left over wges according to many accounts, andf then there's that neat over-30 rule which almost exclusively pushes ourtt higher wage earners)

My point is not to absolve Mr. Wenger here - its to warn people nothing will change so long as we are happy to ignore this reality, no matter who our manager is, and this policy may even limit our options should we decide to replace him as what top manager would agree to work with one hand tied behind his back other than Mr. Wenger?

I am becoming seriously apathetic towards Arsenal games lately.

Time was I would have been pissed off all yesterday and spent most of today hungover.

These days, I couldn't give a fuck. The game ended yesterday I switched the feed off, and had a normal night with the family.

One thing I will say, don't know if it's been covered yet. WBA's second goal is the reason Song will never reach the standard required.
Fuck off t

ah, can't be bothered :(
Shit, you know it's a bad time when a mother fucker can't even get a complete insult. 8)

I think these comments if anything illustrate why he has not been sacked - he is at the very least willing to work with reduced funding without complaint or criticism of that, and is willing to the point of joining in offering the ususal soundbites which try to paint this as either/or debate as in either the only choice I have is to spend 20 million or spend nothing, just as we have heard Board members talk of the choice being between spending like Chelsea or doing precisely what we are doing, or their best that its between doing exactly what we are doing and ending up bankrupt.

Despite the fact that there is a huge middle ground between the choices they offer and the fact that we have the means to operate within it they insist on pretending it's the "Arsenal Way" or the administration way. As they can get away with it it's hard to blame them really for using such disngenuous logic. It's also much more profitable than venturing into that middle ground and using some of the 150 million plus they sit atop to acquire and ensure we can retain some more top players as well as those we have now.

8% of people voted Almunia MOTM. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

This can mean only one of the following ;

1. Almunia has a very extended Protective Family .

2. The Spuds Fans are on a Wum revenge Mission after IG 's Coup .

3. The Arsenal have a higher percentage of Know nothing about Football
Fuck wits than any other Premier League Club .

:banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

My own Young daughter who has what i would call a 'developing' interest in the game was able to label him "Useless" and "Rubbish" after her first close up viewing of his Cock up's .

I think you might find that just about every manager outside the top five in England and the top three in most other leagues would give their right arm for the resources at his disposal. You need to research your comments on the Arsenal wage structure - our overall wage bill is up there with the Mancs. If he chooses to clutter the squad on also rans earning £50k per week (a greater salary than most FTSE 250 CEOs) then that's his issue.

I am no fan of certain members of the board either but when Wenger joined the club the likes of Man United already had far deeper pockets and he was able to compete. He firmly backed the move to the new stadium too, so can not be absolved of blame. Dein loved to tell us how Arsene could read a balance sheet. The simple fact is that he has stubbornly chosen a policy of youth, youth and more youth. It will get us to a certain level every year and no further. Stekelenburg could have been bought for £8m prior to Ajax making the Group stage of the CL and we could have signed another CDM like Inler for a similar price.

He chose not to make those investments and as a result he has left the club in the position it is again this season - happy to finish 3rd

That’s exactly the point – we aren’t outside the top five are we? Not yet anyway.

As to research the wage bill because we are on a par with Man U I posted the following earlier in this thread

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/ ... 630035.ece

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/foot ... 12439.html

"Our wage bill is very similar to Manchester United and substantially above Liverpool's – it's substantially below Chelsea's but that's expected. We pay good salaries and pay them probably more evenly so we have less of the extremes. There is an ethos of a team effort." - Dan Fiszman

However the idea that the manager chooses how its allocated is somehting perhaps you should research a bit more as this would suggest

http://www.redaction.org.uk/downloads/r ... 062005.pdf

“From an early stage JB indicated that AC and he were looking for £60K per
week and that AC would settle for nothing less.â€

Nice that we have another member of the "I'll pick the one or two things that back my argument up" club whilst ignoring all of the other points and counter arguments (the list of which is extensive).

I see little point in engaging in a 20 page spread with you. You have a completely one dimensional approach and will not allow anyone to reason with you

For everyone of the experienced ones you mention there's any over-rewarded Vela, Denilson and Fabianski that were given 5 year plus contracts on the evidence of little progress (regression in the case of the latter). If you are seriously suggesting that Wenger did not personally drive through these contracts then you are seriously mistaken.

Anyway, feel free to re-write the Encyclopaedia Brittanica in your inevitable reply. I won't be reading it

Let's see they're are all sorts of arguments that prove me wrong but i haven't the desire to point them out. Curious to say the least.

Everyone is welcome to check out my thoughts on the game over at CanadianGunners (same link as in signature).

Discussed are:
-Diaby/Eboue: Useless
-MA1: Disappointment and why it may have repercussions
-Kos for Vela swap: Not bad
-AW Management: Weak
-Sagna: Best game in a while

Please have a read!
