As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
on Chamakh's future…
He did well. Nothing is definite at the moment. At the end of the season I think you will have big surprises because there will not be a lot of movement in football.
Great.
I think Arsene my old mucker, you'll find that I won't be in the least bit surprised. The movement will consist of a straight RvP out, Podolski in, some more 'super quality' like Nick Powell from Crewe, and send out the same old 16 players on loan because nobody will sign any of them permanently
I'll enjoy the comedy threads about Goetze, M'Vila and Hazard, before you might thrill us all with a late swoop for some never-will-be from Le Havre

That's what really worries me. We've got so many duds to shift that it's simply not going to possible to get rid of most of them.
And the fact we've accumulated so many in the first place is another reason why it's reasonable to suggest that perhaps Wenger isn't the right man to bring in the new players we so obviously need.

Agreed!
To be fair, Vermaelen, Koscielny, Arteta, and Oxlade-Chamberlain have all been good buys. It's easy to point out the bad ones, but his record isn't terrible in that respect. He simply doesn't spend the money often enough. Those four players were a combined ~45m. They were (/are) immense. Imagine if Wenger dipped into the market and actually invested 60-80m in one summer strengthening our weaker positions - we might actually amount to something. But when spending 10m is a luxury, I doubt we'll see us buying the big-impact players (Hazard Goetze etc) anytime soon, even if it would help.
Not much in the gossip columns today. Only one snippet to cheer Baba up !
The Reds have also joined the list of clubs showing interest in Montpellier striker Olivier Giroud, 25, with manager Kenny Dalglish attending the French club's win at Toulouse on Friday. Arsenal are also believed to be keen on signing him.

One paper quoted him as being worth £50 million. WTF???
Going back to the cost of Mata, I thought the papers said we refused to deal at £24 million and Chelsea bumped the cost up further? Does this figure include wages for the duration of his contract or something? Or do I need an eyetest

Precisely, I'd rather shift most of the dross before we get anyone in because we have SO much that it would probably free up so much more cash to get in more 'super quality'. Imagine the wasted wages on Almunia, Squillaci et al.

Liverpool have joined Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain in the race for Montpellier winger Younes Belhanda, 22.

keep hearing Vertonghen - don't see where he fits in without sales. Djourou is 4th or 5th choice and just got a new contract.
Biglia linked for ages, only makes sense if Wilshere and Frimpong aren't recovering
Belhanda is a #10/creative midfielder, not a winger. I hope he stays for CL football at Montpellier then we can really see how good he is.
Its really up to Wenger this time. If he want to keep Chamkah, Vela, Denilson, Bendtner and let Van Persie leave the club because of wage demands good luck to him.
If that happens and part of this season was bad for him just wait until Chelsea, United and City power up this transfer window and the Arsenal fans who have rightly enjoyed our move into 3rd place will turn on him again.
He will spend most of next year losing his temper as well lose big games as well as some small ones and finish with a massive nothing again.
A wise man knows the fans here are demanding and rightly so.
Losing Van Persie will become the end for him.
