Euro 2012

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Does it depend on the number of posts you have as to how you are treated.
The early stages of the argument had Reb involved who is a Mod and is Irish.
He decided to let it run so I have let him take the lead.

Please PM him if you want to discuss the thread.
Thank you Quartz.

I have no wish to discuss the thread thanks.

I have made my point and now have much more of an understanding on what is acceptable and what is not.

frankbutcher wrote:I also agree about this mythical view of Ireland's support. For some reason the Irish are viewed world-wide as some sort of utopian race. Why? Where does this come from? My experience of the Irish is that they are are largely feckless, arrogant, un-trustworthy cretins. There are clearly some nice guys out there, but they are the most arrogant race I've ever come across. As for their "harmless, couldn't hurt a fly reputation". They are a bunch of loud mouths always at the centre of attention. The UK has about as much in common with the Irish as we do with Papua New Guinea. To the Irish I have a question. If you're so great and Ireland is such a great place, why don't you fuck off back there? Sell all your Irish Pubs around the world, give up your council flat in Liverpool, your caravan in Essex and your apartment in Boston, Massachusetts and fuck off back to the Blarney Stone. No?????? Why not?????? Yeah, because Ireland is fucked financially and you'd rather ponce off the rest of the World.

Is it jealousy that your sister Tabatha still prefers an irish cock. "Fuck Off Home".......

Why?

We made your country. We might as well live in it. :barscarf:

To answer Tarquin's question, where do Ireland get their reputation from?

Well I think the word reputation kind of answers your question, doesnt it? You dont make up one, you have to create a reputation. Hence the name of the bloody word, duh.

The Irish people have a good reputation around the world for a reason, and you seem to be jealous about that, why is that?, whats the problem?

I think your honest views which you may try and cover up as a wind up, say an awful lot about you FRANK.

Im not gunna bite, but just ask one question

If every Irish person you've met dont live up to the the "rep"....doesnt that say more about you, you twat :D ?

Where oh where would the OG be without sweeping stereotypical cliches being bandied about !
I like Some Irish people and despise others ,Terry Wogans my pet hate but that only because he's a *word censored* not 'cos he's Irish !
Following England is simply too much hassle ,I last did it in WC 1990 and swore never again, this despite the fact we stayed away min 50 K from any city England played in ,had a fluent Italian speaker with us and kept well away from
the aggrro where ever possible.
I did make a brief appearance in Euro 2000 in Eindhoven after watching Denmark in Brugge but there is no way I will go to Belgium with England anymore than I would travel to the shithole that is Donetsk ever again .
There are just to many numpties, beer monsters, and jester hat twats ,add to that Police who want to kill you for being English, rip off Hotel Prices and it becomes nightmare and worth it .
The other problem I have is supporting my country is that i hate most of the team with a passion !

This thread has got very bitter and it's totally unnecessary... It was insults etc like this that got the forum closed down previously. ..Think people should be more careful what they post.
One thing that does piss me off is that in March I was told that Rugby is a better and more important game than football. Ireland lost to the All Blacks in Rugby on Saturday and there wasn't a word about it . We are a nation of sporting glory hunters, jumping on any old band-wagon .
As for the Irish traveling support..yeah they enjoy themselves and in general behave themselves but the whole we are Irish and drink regardless of the result is getting tired. The whole phenomenon began in Euro88 where there was an innocence about the Irish support , but the idea of portraying ourselves continuously in this manner does our country no service. Some visitors to Ireland believe they can behave in a drunken unruly manner because that's the image of ourselves we have sold abroad. All my Arsenal supporting friends stayed at home last night to watch the game, because they like me couldn't be bothered facing and listening to the drunk experts in the pub. There was/is a tabloid deluded view of Ireland before this Championship with outlandish predictions even up to including Ireland winning it. I'm sure Xavi, Iniesta and Cesc have spent months sweating over Andrews and Whelan.

I'll see you later son. I'll be the one putting £5,000 on England to win the Euros. Isn't that the stereotype that all you plastic paddies believe about the English. :rubchin:

Cant disagree with any of that (what bradywasking wrote) - tbh footie is still a secondary sport over here (behind the parochial crooked thuggary disguised as gaa  ) but there are still far more people that are knowledgable about the game than there is rugby experts popping up all over the place after winning a few games in a sport that really has 5 or 6 countries that are any good at the game

Most footie fans knew before last nights game that we had a poor team going out there and an early exit was ahead of us. Most Irish fans have known for a long time that we have a 73 year old dinosaur in charge of us that has zero trust in young players thus condeming us to more average shite that we have witnessed in recent years (and we have two more years with this c**t in charge  ) but all these so called footie "experts" have come crawling from the woodwork prior to last night proclaiming that we would beat croatia  I suppose it is very much like the shift in demographics of the Arsenal support in recent seasons where we have bland dickheads representing us and the AST putting themselves forward as experts and knowledgable when the reality is that they have only lived through the wenger years

Btw the trouble in poland the night before the Irish game saw 14 arrests - 10 poles, 1 croat (poor c**t  ) and 3 Irish so while it is still unacceptable it was hardly violence on a grand scale was it ?

And frank, 20 years trouble free for the english fans ?? Are you having a laff mate ?

Makes me laugh. Both aides have had a go. The English are EDL followers, hooligans, murderers and yet I'm in the wrong. Sums it up. The Irish Clique really does exist.

Why aren't you all in Poland anyway?

The Irish people are not the problem here, from my experience they are generally decent people who like a beer and a laugh and dont take themselves too seriously, the problem is the annoying broadcasters, media and especially Peter fuckin Drury the commentator who cant wait to bang on about the Irish being so special in their support cos they happen to dress in a bright shirt!!! The dutch, croats and 90% of supporters are the same as the Irish in their support and their ability to enjoy themselves over a beer but these crunts cant wait to lick their arses and tell the world how special they are which is very very annoying!!!
