Re: Do you want Luis Suarez?
sounded to me like Norfbank was suggesting Wenger gets a by, because he's set himself low standards
I think the opposite is the case

Only if it means he plays second fiddle to the truly fantastic Giroud

Re: Do you want Luis Suarez?
When the market started I would not have wanted the rat near our club.
But since we've failed massively and no striker of the same calibre available on the market now I wouldn't even mind us paying £55m for this rat.
This is what our club has come down to.

what do you mean by failed massively?Wenger = GOAT wrote:When the market started I would not have wanted the rat near our club.

we were never getting Cavani or Falcao so the options were Higuain and Suarez.
We flirted with Higuain (my preference) but obviously wanted Suarez more.
Missing out of Higuain is disapointing. It's not yet a massive fail.
There are other good strikers about: Eto'o, Jackson Martinez, Milito, Rossi, Fred,
We'll face Benteke this weekend who we've been linked with.
As you rightly say there are advantages to missing out on Suarez - we just have to make sure we get somebody good for that spot.

If Giroud's as good as you say he is why would you want any of that lot ?highburyJD wrote:what do you mean by failed massively?Wenger = GOAT wrote:When the market started I would not have wanted the rat near our club.

Re: Do you want Luis Suarez?
how good did I say Giroud was?
Not sure which statement you're referring to.
I posted often that we badly needed another forward whilst we still had vanStaplec*nt.
I like our HFB but he def aint at that level...

Re: Do you want Luis Suarez?
You've always defended his honour on here and said how much better he did than Drogba did in his first year......so why would you want him demoted to second or third choice ?highburyJD wrote:how good did I say Giroud was?

Eto wages would be too high, martinez would be good but i very much doubt we will bid for him, Milito is 34 so too old, Rossi is a united reject and couldn't cut it in england & fred was average at lyon at a time when they were the best team in france. Lets face facts there are no "super quality" strikers left to buy. Hopefully I'm proved wrong but going on past experience I doubt I will.

Re: Do you want Luis Suarez?
Drogba was TERRIBLE in his first year - Giroud was only OK for us.
I saw our HFB play very well for Montpellier many times, in massive pressure games.
Biggest games not just in his career but in the history of that club and he delivered.
I hope he can do well for us, he's had a good pre-season I expect him to improve
but so far in an Arsenal shirt he's been solid not spectacular
When we had vanStaplec*nt I said we desperately needed another forward
why one earth would I say we shouldn't buy one when he's be replaced by a less good striker?

Re: Do you want Luis Suarez?
Rossi is quality - I'd take him straight away despite him being a 'United reject', I'd also take Pogba
neither was really given a chance

Re: Do you want Luis Suarez?
Of course if the fabled youth academy could even produce a striker of squad rotation standards we'd be better off but nope.....in 17 years of Le Goon it hasn't happened once. Akpom might look good knocking over Vietnam and Indonesia but he's about as talented as Lupoli i.e. limited technique and if he tried till he was 25 wouldn't be good enough
I know the old argument about strikers taking longer to develop but honestly we can't even find someone in our stiffs and youths at Welbeck or Sturridge standard. Its absolutely pathetic quite frankly

you're obsessed with this youth academy striker thing Steve-O
which top clubs youth academy has produced a striker?

Drogba scored 16 goals in 40 game during his first season and Giroud scored 17 in 47 so by your definition Giroud had a terrible season. Your blind faith to this team is laughable. Clearly you are being a wum
Re: Do you want Luis Suarez?
As I said, you might not personally rate the likes of Welbeck or Sturridge but they are good enough to hold their own as 3rd or 4th choice strikers and have international caps to boot. Actually both of them would benefit from longer runs in their respective first teams. The other argument people use is that they develop later in life....but who have we produced that's even gone off and had a decent PL / other top league career elsewhere?highburyJD wrote:you're obsessed with this youth academy striker thing Steve-O

I watched our latest product Akpom closely in the pre-season. He looks a gangly, awkward thing with limited pace....no better than any of the previous wonderboys that have graced the League Cup.
Do you not think in 17 years it is reasonable to have produced at least 1 PL standard striker?
I think its the fact that Wenger gets such praise for his development of youth players that winds me up. Every year when the League Cup comes round we hear about the conveyor belt of talent and every time I hope there is a decent young striker.......but to be honest we're going backwards in that department. None of the present crop will even reach Bendtner or Vela's standards

Re: Do you want Luis Suarez?
I saw Drogs play loads in is first season. He was very poor every single time - missed chance after chance, terrible touch, his diving was unconvincing.n7gooner wrote:Drogba scored 16 goals in 40 game during his first season and Giroud scored 17 in 47 so by your definition Giroud had a terrible season. Please block me if you don't believe I'm posting honestly.
Wellbeck scored how many last season? Pretty much a conversation stopper.SteveO 35 wrote:As I said, you might not personally rate the likes of Welbeck or Sturridge
Who 'produced' Sturridge? Not Liverpool they paid a club who signed him on a big Bosman FFS.
IMO we didn't produce a top striker with Andy Cole because he never made it with us
