THE BOARD - Kroenke, Usmanov, Finances, AGM etc.

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Kroenke please do the decent business thing and sell your shares to the Russian. He at least cares and knows a little about football whereas you don't.

I do think it's shocking how GG is underrated and even ignored by large sections of the support. I only wish I was old enough to see those glory days (I started following Arsenal when Stewart Houston was caretaker manager).

TBF, we only entered our 'boring phase' after being beaten by Benfica in 91 and GG started to prioritize workhorses over flair; although for some reason all of GG's reign is tarred with that 'boring' brush. Fuck, even when we were shit we still won trophies in 93 and 94. Are you listening, Arsene?

And for those who dislike him for managing the scum... Haven't you played as them on Football Manager even once, just to see what you can do with shit? :D I won the double with them and then shut off the game in disgust.

GG is an Arsenal man through and through. I would love to see another Arsenal man in charge of the club one day and not a foreign mercenary, although I have confidence that will ever happen with those passionless mercenary cunnts on the board.

The bloke was an integral part of our 1971 double winning side including the iconic games at WHL and Wembley, won one of our European trophies as a player and the other as a manager, won a domestic cup double and masterminded THAT night in 1989 as well as only losing one game on the way to the title in 91.

On top of that he instilled so much pride and professionalism in the badge and the club.

Look at how most of us look back on the George Graham era. We see the league titles, the cup double, the ECWC and Anfield 89 with rose tinted spectacles.

We very seldom associate that era with the appallingly negative football we often played (apart from 91 when we were exceptional 8) ). We don't seem to associate that time with GG turning that 91 team into a boring mid table cup team with no direction within 2 years; or with a manager that stole from the club (let's call it what it was, yeah they were all at it, but let's call it for what it was). :|

One way to look at it would be that GG was a crook and a thief that then went to the scum. We should despise him for those things surely? But I still love the man! :D 8)

A couple of quick points -

1. GG was not allowed to linger on for many years past his prime - he was (in my opinion) ruthlessly axed despite the fact that in the previous 3 years he has won 1 league, an fa and league cup double and a european cup winners cup. Contrast that to le cock who went nine fcuking years beyond his prime and during that time he has managed to seriously piss off a large percentage of Gooners

2. Ask a cross section of Gooners from the GG era, and you will find many of them will refer back to the "bung scandal" - that one incident has cast a shadow over his achievements with us and it shows how easy those glories can be overlooked by events in the latter part of the reign.

As a devoted GG disciple, it does piss me off slightly whenI see/hear fellow Gooners refer to the poor football we played under him - dont get me wrong cos I agree we played dire football at the end, but this was a club that has been brought up on a steady diet of turgid stuff (boring boring Arsenal anyone ? ). I think we would all be quick to acknowledge that the great football that we played early in le cock's reign has helped put GG's football in a bad light, but at the same time I am not a jcl and am aware of our history and would readily take success with bad football ahead of failure with flowing football
Um, did you read my post?

I'm not having a pop at GG. I'm giving an example of how the lesser parts of his reign have been let slide by most Gooners. Personally I didn't give a shite about the bung - every single manager was taking them at that time INCLUDING Ferguson and Clough. It was part of the culture. FFS Ferguson handed his back and was let walk! :x

Just a couple points!

1. "previous 3 years" - He was axed in 95. Won his last league in 91. Then we finished 4th 10th and 4th under him and were well on our way to 12th the year he was sacked. As a manager his league winning days were behind him - even the most ardent GG admirer can admit that, one of which I am.

2. I don't get your second point at all. It pisses you off when Gooners refer to the poor football under GG yet you agree with them? :D

Look augie, I love GG. The man is a Legend. But let's be as honest when we look at his reign as you want people to be when they look at Wenger's reign.

DB, if you read my post ( 8) ) you will see that I didnt say that you were slating GG about the bung incident, but I did say that a cross section of Gooners from that era would or still do.

Secondly I am not disputing that GG's best days were behind him - the point is that the board recognised it and used the bung incident to fire him rather than allow the decline to continue. Contrast that to the decade long decline under this french w.nker

Lastly I want to clarify what I was saying about the boring football criticism - I feel that in the last few years, some Gooners have used the "shite football" line as a stick to beat GG with and use it as a defence of the decision to sack him. Back then (in my opinion) we had endured years and years of poor football so GG's football would have been nothing new to us except that we actually won with it - these days I feel people now compare it to the flowing football of the early wenker era, but the decision to sack him was before those days so we cannot (again in my opinion) use something that happened much later as a reason to sack him.

Lets be honest also and say that it is far easier to look back on GG's reign with rose tinted glasses because he was axed having enjoyed successes up until the season before he left - prior to the two recent fa cup's, we had endured 8 years of shite under le cock which, for me, would make it that much harder to view him in the esteem that many seem to

Further proof of how much of an absolute *word censored* Stan Kroenke is.
