Re: Euros / Ingerland Hype
If they made it 32 teams do you think the Irish sides would qualify? Or would we need to make it bigger?

Re: Euros / Ingerland Hype
They'd struggle to qualify for the qualifiers if they had to.

We have a poor team led by an under qualified manager (I'm talking Ireland in this instance btw), and over here we sit back and bemoan how shit we are - then out of summer boredom you switch on your tv and watch the euro's, and you realise that we are no shittier than a lot of the countries still involved

Honestly I have had this argument with buddies of mine over club football but the same applies to international football, but I am 52 years old and in my life I have never seen football in as poor a state as it currently is - back in the 80s english football wasnt great but serie A was, and then a few years after that la liga got stronger, and then for two 2 decades english football was really strong, but there isnt a league anywhere in europe that is anywhere near as good as it used to be, and the same applies to international football imo

Throw in San Marino and a few other and that's really not a bad idea. Only the winner goes into the qualifiers proper.

Serie A was, is, and always will be shite, augie.augie wrote: ↑Sun Jun 27, 2021 3:14 pmBobbyPires7 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 27, 2021 2:58 pmIf they made it 32 teams do you think the Irish sides would qualify? Or would we need to make it bigger?![]()

Fucking slow tedious "purist" bollocks for the football snobs back in the 80s who blissfully ignored the fact that those "beautiful" Italian teams would fuck about with twenty passes across the back four and then 9 times out of 10 hoof it up to the striker. And the fucking diving and cheating was twenty years ahead of everyone else.

The only truly great team in Italy was the Milan side of the late 80s / early 90s - and the creative force was the three Dutch players.
I far more enjoyed the honest true grit and pace of the Ingerlish game in the 80s than the fucking odious slow divefest of Italian football.

Re: Euros / Ingerland Hype
What an odious cheating diver Ronaldo is, and Belgium are no better, 3 of them feigning injury in the first half, hope neither of these shysters go too far.

Re: Euros / Ingerland Hype
As I said a few pages back it absolutely fucking amazes me that absolutely brilliant players like Alexis and Hazard can just turn complete and utter shit by changing clubs.
Since Hazard joined Madrid he looks a total pubber, a guy who once tore the PL apart now can barely string 2 passes together. Just can’t wrap my head around it.

Cos, like it or not, the premier league isnt all that - yes the premier league is exciting and 100 miles an hour, but it is also a wide open game where defending is no longer a priority. When you have a wide open attacking league it is natural that forward players will shine, but then these players struggle in a slower league where the supply takes longer and defences become more organised
Re: Euros / Ingerland Hype
That may well be true of Hazard but it doesn't explain Sanchez at Man Utd.
I'm more inclined to believe that sometimes things click and all fall into place for some players at a particular club and likewise the reverse. .
Fernando Torres at Chelsea is another prime example.

Also very true
Re: Euros / Ingerland Hype
I read somewhere way back that after just a few training sessions Alexis realised he'd made a huge mistake and tasked his agent to find out if there was any way to return to us.
I don't think there's any recovering from that and no wonder his performances continued to nose dive.

Cannot agree with that - I still love the parma team from many years ago that had a young buffon, veron, thuram, ortega, crespo etc, and they were a great attacking team. I remember mancini and vialli together on a good sampdoria team. I remember a great roma team with totti and batigol being the star players.
Italian football had a dour defensive reputation cos they had teams that could play dour defensive football and excel doing it, but they also had great attacking players. I should also add that as a GG disciple I respected and admired the strong defensive mindset of italian teams and still do to this day - they have never obsessed with all this silky play out from the back bollox, cos if they have to whack the ball out over the stand, they will do so without giving it a second thought

Re: Euros / Ingerland Hype
Nobody would have predicted that Sanchez would go to united and absolutely fucking bomb, nobody.
Same when Madrid signed Hazard, sure he was never going to fill the void left behind by Ronaldo (which is what he was signed to do) but likewise nobody would have thought he would go there and become total shit overnight either.
There are plenty of shit teams in La Liga Augie (Getafe for starters
) but no matter who I’ve seen him playing against out there he’s been fucking abysmal. Madrid’s most expensive ever signing and when not permanently crocked is fucking Cabellos levels of shite.
Scenes when both of em line up in midfield next season, Madrid are fucked
