Neymar, Cavani and Falcao have all gone for huge fees. Meanwhile Citeh have bought two strikers for well over £20m each as well as spending £33m on a fairly unknown Brazilian with only 5 caps.

We weren't going to sign any of these players anyway but you can bet damn sure these signings are used as evidence of the 'dizzying prices' that prevented us signing a quality striker.

Isn't it ironic, that we are quite happy to sell for "dizzying prices" but object on grounds of morality to paying them ?

Papiss Cisse isn't a bad guess. Newcastle may have to sell unless they can broker some sort of deal with Wonga (unlikely imo) and it's easy to point towards his goals in his first half season. Probably available for about £10-12m.

MM99, all along Steve O has been taking the piss out of the gobshites who chose to believe that we would be signing higuain/jovetic/fellaini/shrek/cesc and all he kept doing was reminded those guys every time another mooted signing dropped off the radar. You then asked "who the fcuk said that shrek/cesc/fellaini would be coming" but steve o never claimed that you and every Gooner believed it, only that there was many who did believe the rumours and you know that he is right on that point. There was no need for you to be outraged at the pisstake cos pisstaking is what this place is all about

The point is that for higuain we had his agent saying that we've discussed terms with him. For Suarez we've had Wenger and brendan Rogers both confirm the bids. There's merit to those stories. The other players have all been rubbish posted in twitter and the papers. So they're not even in the same ballpark. If SteveO posts bollocks then he should get called out on it.

Don't give up, we're only two-thirds through my list of excuses....

1. June = "come on people, it's only June FFS! the window isn't even open!"
2. Early July = "come on people, the window has only just opened!"
3. mid July = "it's fine, pre-season hasn't started yet!"
4. late-July - "ok, pre-season has started, but things will start happening when we're back from Asia"
5. early August - "okay, our rivals are signing players, but the season hasn't started yet..."
6. Late August - "damn it, there's no one left worth buying! - but, it's okay, Wenger's not an idiot and he know's what we need"
7. September 1st - "see, I told you... the best striker in Ligue Deux He's probably better than Higuain anyway... and only £2m! Arsene Knows! "

I'm not quite sure why M-99 has got his knickers in a twist here anyway - perhaps he's already got the new yellow number printed with Higuain on the back

FFS - have people had a sense of humour bypass on here???? Firstly, I didn't actually mention anyone by name until JD asked who the 'done deal' boys were. Secondly as has been said by augie, northbank123 and others we have been linked with Higuain to the extent that just about every media outlet was reporting it as done deal. The same thing was done with Mata and to a slightly lesser extent with Goetze and my point is that no matter what bollocks is being reported about "personal terms agreed", "medical next week", "Wenger has spoken with his father", I don't believe a single fucking word of it because we've been here times many

Apparently we've upped the bid for Suarez now to £40m - complete bollocks. He won't be wearing an Arsenal shirt next season.

Jovetic was someone we were closely linked with in January along with Cavani and Fellaini and Wenger himself includes Rooney in a list of "realistic targets" (strangely coinciding with a commercial trip to the Far East)

I'm not sure what bollocks I'm supposed to have been sprouting because whether you like it or not we have been linked with those players, in some cases for months, and there isn't the slightest hope we'll sign any of them.

Suarez will be a Real Madrid player next season, Higuain at Napoli, Fellaini at Manchester United and Rooney at Chelsea
