I see Cashley Tweedy has had his contract terminated by Roma.
What odds on Wenger bringing him back because “he loves the club”?

Re: The 2015 Transfer Rumours Thread
Arsenal tried to hijack Tottenham's move to sign Clinton Njie from Lyon at the last minutes according to L'Equipe.
Spurs announced this morning that they had completed their swoop for the Cameroon forward, who has signed a five-year contract at White Hart Lane.
Before the north London club had completed the £12 million signing however, Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas claimed that the move may be hijacked by a Premier League rival. ‘Clinton Njie’s departure is not complete. We have received an offer from another big English club which is complicating things,’ he told French media earlier this week.
Now, L'Equipe have claimed that the club in question was indeed Arsenal. The French newspaper say that the Gunners made contact with Lyon on Friday to sound them out about Njie's availability, just as Tottenham were looking to put him through a medical.
They add that Arsenal didn't make a formal offer but toyed with the idea of challenging Spurs for his signature before ultimately deciding against.

If we seriously wanted this guy why wait until that late stage ? Wenker dithering again, not knowing who he wants ?
Pathetic from a club which proudly boasts of being in the top 8 in terms of income in European football.

That does tend to happen, although we shouldn't be waiting around hoping that it does and that other clubs are then desperate to offload to us.g88ner wrote:This transfer window is worryingly quiet at the moment![]()
Still, not a great surprise; it's only mid-August and the last few days of the window tend to go mental.

All we can do is hope that we've got a deal (or more!) lined up.northbank123 wrote:That does tend to happen, although we shouldn't be waiting around hoping that it does and that other clubs are then desperate to offload to us.g88ner wrote:This transfer window is worryingly quiet at the moment![]()

I'm worried but history tells us we tend to leave things very late, and the Ozil deal (although an isolated case) gives me some hope to cling to as I dream of us signing a striker (at the very least!)
Either way, I can't wait for this bastard window to slam shut

I read somewhere else where a fan or pundit was suggesting that everybody is sitting back waiting for one big deal to kick off a flurry of transfer activity......why cant we be pro-active and be the club that does the big deal to get everything moving ? We are, as has been said a million times, now a reactive and not a proactive club - I honestly believe that if the rest of the premier league clubs decided not to buy any more players in this window, le cock would also not bother buying any more players either

Re: The 2015 Transfer Rumours Thread
I know what you mean, but if we sign a player of the quality of Sanchez (2014) and Ozil (2013) every summer then I must admit I have little interest in whether people consider it to be pro-active or reactive.augie wrote:northbank123 wrote:That does tend to happen, although we shouldn't be waiting around hoping that it does and that other clubs are then desperate to offload to us.g88ner wrote:This transfer window is worryingly quiet at the moment![]()

Those players represented a step change in our ability (or willingness) to pay top dollar to bring great players to the club. It's a little sad that that's being spun negatively because it wasn't pro-active enough. A term that's open to interpretation anyway.
- surely the only thing that matters is WHO we sign; not HOW?
This summer can't really be criticised yet as none of us know the outcome. That's a discussion for September 1st.

Will you still believe that IF we have anything less than 6 or 7 pts from our 4 games at that stage ?

I still believe that it is far from certain that le cock was the driving force behind buying ozil and sanchez and that, for me anyway, puts a question mark over the reasoning behind these purchases

It depends though, surely?
If it's a case of buying the same player in June or August, then it's a no brainer. It's clearly better to have them early so they can settle in before the season.
But if the option is a decent player signed early or a world class player signed on deadline day, then I'd go for the world class player all day long.
- who wouldn't?
And anyway, as much as I want new players, I'm inclined to think the players who played against West Ham (and will play at Palace) were more than capable of winning without new signings.
Look, in an ideal world we all want the same thing: world class players signed early. We signed Sanchez incredibly early last summer and Ozil incredibly late the season before that. This year looks like another hope and pray summer, but I can live with that if it means the right player(s) arrive.
