SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not sign
Re: SUMMER TRANSFERS - Deals, Rumours and Buy/Sell Wish List
Daily fail at it again I see.
Bernard's right footed. A simple look at one of his many video compilations knocking about on YouTube will tell you that. John Drayton couldn't be bothered though.........must be piss easy to get a job with that rag.

Best news of the summer santos has left arsenal on a free transfer. Good riddance you overweight twat.
Re: SUMMER TRANSFERS - Deals, Rumours and Buy/Sell Wish List
Anyway if we manage to nab Bernard it would be a hell of a coup and Wenger would regain some respect from me. The boy is a mega talent. In Brazil, they rate him as their best youngster after Neymar.

Re: SUMMER TRANSFERS - Deals, Rumours and Buy/Sell Wish List
No fcuking point in signing a winger even if he is as good as limpar, marwood or overmars because we dont play a system suited to wingers
In my opinion all wingers are expected to track back and give protection to their full backs but when they do so in our current "formation" it leaves our lone striker isolated and makes them look totals c.unts - in a 4-4-2 system the striker will have someone alongside him to help link up the play plus, in my opinion, in a 4-4-2 both central midfielders know their role and know what they are supposed to do where as playing 3 in the middle is more off the cuff and often creates a situation where 2 of them will be off doing their own thing expecting the other to help out
Really when you think about it this hasnt been a good transfer window so far for wenger - cesar, higuain, shrek and hannibal the scouse cannibal are all players that we have been heavily linked with and all are still available. I'm sure wenger would have preferred if these players were off the market at this stage thus lifting any pressure to sign these players but even cesar, who a few days ago looked a cert to go to napoli, is going to be still available with napoli about to sign reina for the season

1989, is it just me or are you obsessed with us signing "flair players" ? Jovetic and this bernard guy seem to be winger and off the main striker type of players but surely we have other more pressing needs ? Buying the best young brazilian talent might look good in the papers but it certainly wont, in my opinion at least, make any great difference to the quality of this side
Re: SUMMER TRANSFERS - Deals, Rumours and Buy/Sell Wish List
Yeah I think we need a bit more flair going forward. I feel we have lost a lot of unpredictability and "wow" factor with the sales of JVP, Cesc and Na$ri, and recently the departure of Arshavin.augie wrote:1989 wrote:Anyway if we manage to nab Bernard it would be a hell of a coup and Wenger would regain some respect from me. This does not mean however that I'm not keen on us signing a DM because I very much am. Luiz Gustavo is a top quality DM who has been made available by Bayern Munich and he'd be perfect for us, which is why Wenger won't sign him.

Regarding your point that a winger won't suit us, I agree that our style wouldn't enable a winger to flourish. But it's a great option to have and in certain games we could definitely use a winger to get the best out of Giroud among other things. I think Giroud would do much better with a winger crossing to him as he's very good in the air and has good poaching skills.
Re: SUMMER TRANSFERS - Deals, Rumours and Buy/Sell Wish List
I have always been a believer in the suggestion that the difference between a good team and a great team is that a great team has at least one player who can bring that something extra to the table a la Dennis Bergkamp
However for these players to shine and come to the fore they need a ball winning midfielder to supply them with the ball, they need great strikers to capitalise on the chances they create and they need a back 4 and keeper who are not leaking goals all over the place and these are all more vital components to that cherry on top of the icing type of player that is so rare

Re: SUMMER TRANSFERS - Deals, Rumours and Buy/Sell Wish List
I think the lazy arse assumed because Bernard can play on the left (a la the way Robben plays on the right, to cut in on his favoured foot) he is left-footed.1989 wrote:Daily fail at it again I see.

My problem with this possible signing (who am I kidding?) is that He'll need an awful long time to adjust and get up to match speed and, more importantly, I'm not sure another winger, even a potentially very good one, is our top priority.
Agree with others re Gustavo too, if he's available we should move for him.
Re: SUMMER TRANSFERS - Deals, Rumours and Buy/Sell Wish List
I'd say you're thinking about it too much!augie wrote: Really when you think about it this hasnt been a good transfer window so far for wenger - cesar, higuain, shrek and hannibal the scouse cannibal are all players that we have been heavily linked with and all are still available. Surely, whether you consider it a good or bad transfer window "so far" is neither here nor there. It's always going to look distorted in July, because some clubs have done more business than others, and most deals remain incomplete or unreported.
And the fact you say that most players we've been heavily linked with are still available is surely more proof that it's far too early to make any conclusions?!
I'm sure all manager/fans want business done early, but who was the most influential signing of last summer? - I'd say Van Persie, and he joined United in the middle of August (nearly a month from now). And looking back, does it matter one bit whether some United fans were pissed off at the lack of a big name in July? - no, because they landed the big fish in the end, and that's the only thing that matters.
Obviously we have greater needs that United, but like it or not, we have to wait for the window to unfold before we can say whether it's been a success or not. I know that's boring, and requires patience, but what choice have we got? - we don't know what's going to happen yet!

Re: SUMMER TRANSFERS - Deals, Rumours and Buy/Sell Wish List
when do you confirm how good the transfer window has been?
def not half way through!
we could sign Higuain, Fellaini, Cesar and Marquinos then come 6th
we could sign nobody and win the treble
(can't see either of those things happening)
say next season we win the league
with Ox, Jenks, Campbell, Eisfeld, Mertesacker and Arteta dominating (was gonna say Gervinho but I'm not even willing to pick him in a hypothetical team) does that make our 'trolleydash' 8-2 window a good one...?
arguably it does

Re: SUMMER TRANSFERS - Deals, Rumours and Buy/Sell Wish List
We were linked with fellaini but surely most of us expected him to have signed by manure by now ?
We were linked with Julio cesar but a couple of days ago it looked like he was gone to Napoli only for it to fall through
We were reported to have almost signed higuain only for chavs, Napoli and now victims fc to enter race - surely it is not unreasonable to expect that a proven top quality striker would have been snapped up by one of those teams by now ?
We are linked with Hannibal to the point that all the reports in the media are saying that he wants to sign for us despite a few weeks it looking that he was a cert to be heading to Madrid - if the theory that we only bid for him to force Madrid to allow higuain to sign for us is true, then it is a tactic that seems to be backfiring
We are strongly linked to shrek and the comments made by his camp in recent days have only confirmed his strong desire to leave but yet his is still gone nowhere
If you looked at my prior post you will see that I put a laughing emoticon at the end of it but is it such a far fetched notion to suggest that if these players had already gone elsewhere it would allow him to spout the usual bullshit about trying to sign top quality players but they opted to go elsewhere or that the price wasn't realistic ? Add that to the general feeling that cesc is available to buy and it will only add to the severe pressure on him to buy especially as these players are all still available. If cesc goes to manure then I think there is nothing that can save wenker from an almighty fan backlash

We are supposed to have more financial clout, why are we not being more pro active in the market?
Higuan saga is farcical, we have CL to offer, Liverpool do not.
Despite the mythical £70m I get the impression the club are waiting until everyone else does their trading before we get started, so as to avoid the price becoming inflated, god forbid if we were to ever bid a cent more than Wenger thinks they are worth.
Ultimately, we will be left with the risky prospects with still a bit to prove.
