THE PROJOE TOTALLY POINTLESS TRANSFER RUMOUR THREAD
Apologies if this has been done already but found this on Just Arsenal News
The last (very interesting) story regards Lorik Cana, who was reported to have been an Arsenal target last summer, and was highly prized by the fans as being just what the Gunners needed. The Arsenal fans were all shocked when he was allowed to join Sunderland for just £5m, and proceeded to have an excellent season for the Black Cats.
Cana is currently on holiday at home in Albania, and yesterday spoke to the students at Kosovo’s American University. He told them: “In the next year or two I will be playing for one of the Big Four teams in England. I have been in contact with the Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger. But since the start of my career in England, I needed to gain some experience,â€

My point is pretty much the same as yours, 10 battlers is fine but I can see this lot wilting once Cana gets sent off, same way they visibly look and act clueless once Cesc is out of the team. One hard man wins us bugger all, but Cana,Song,Hangeland and maybe even Parker now that's a team of players with cajones.

Song ?? Cojones ? Are you sure ?

What so you think Cana,Hangeland and Parker don't have cajones. It's not just tackling, it's being prepared to throw yourself between man and ball to preent a shot or goal. Are you honestly saying we didn't suffer in the midfield without him. You must have missed our last few results when he was injured.augie wrote:topgoon wrote:My point is pretty much the same as yours, 10 battlers is fine but I can see this lot wilting once Cana gets sent off, same way they visibly look and act clueless once Cesc is out of the team. Song ?? Cojones ? Are you sure ?Watch song play again and you will see that the vast majority of his bookings (and there are a few) are for petty things like tripping, shirt pulling etc and I dont think I have ever seen the guy put in a hard tackle in my life
Did you not say as much yourself up above when you said that this team (inc song) "visibly look and act clueless without cesc" ?
As far as the cluelessness is concerned, I don't include Song because I think we are softer in the middle without him. Song does get booked for silly tackles some of them harsher than other players. Vieira used to get booked stupidly in his early days. He had to get clever at it. Gilberto was the best at it with a record for the most fouls before a booking.
It doesn't have to be a big hard tackle to win the ball, that's just the reckless bollocks that we all cry about when it injures our players.
The only player that I questioned on your list re having cajones was song and I accept the other three you listed have the necessary. I will also agree that this current team do suffer without song (might be something to do with a total lack of defensive midfielders
) but that doesnt mean the guy has the necessary cajones.
I am not asking for our players to recklessly break up opposition players a la shawcross but petty cheap fouling like song commits does not send out a "dont fcuk with us" message to the opposition. We need a really tough ball winning brut who is willing to get stuck in where necessary and no matter what you say I will argue that song is not that kind of player

Arsenal Plan £22m German Pair Raid: Wenger Set for Summer Swoop To Bring Mertesacker and Neuer to the Emirates
Arsene Wenger is reportedly ready to splash the cash and make moves for German international pair Per Mertesacker and Manuel Neuer. The Arsenal boss is keen to solidify his backline after seeing his side concede more goals this season than they have done in any season since 2002/03.
The Emirates side are looking to freshen up a back four that includes many veteran faces including William Gallas, Sol Campbell and Mikel Silvestre, who could all be on their way out of the club this summer. Manuel Almunia and Lukasz Fabianski have attracted a lot of attention with their less than able displays between the sticks which have led many to believe Wenger will bring in a new goalie.
With that in mind Schalke’s in form Manuel Neuer has been targeted. The 24 year old has been in sparkling form this season, helping his club to second spot in the Bundesliga and arguably making him Germany’s number one choice for the forthcoming World Cup.
The Gunners are also rumoured to be ready to make a bid for giant Werder Bremen centre back Per Mertesacker who has become a mainstay of the national team set-up and at 25 years of age already has 60 caps to his name and a reputation for being one of the toughest defenders in the game. At 6 ft 6 the former Hannover man cuts a imposing figure and has the ability on the deck to link defence and midfield, as well as being able to utilise his height expertly from set pieces.
The pair would set back the north London side around £24m a figure that Arsenal should be able to afford having been promised a hefty transfer fund by the club’s owners.
The trouble with that is that it sounds too good to be true - SO IT PROBABLY IS !

He makes a better job of it than the other candidates currently in the squad. Still think he's a better player than you give him credit for, at 21 he's improving and would benefit from better players around him than Diaby.augie wrote:The only player that I questioned on your list re having cajones was song and I accept the other three you listed have the necessary. Have you just spent the whole sunday afternoon talking about Song's balls?

enough of talking about Song's bollocks!
Has anyone watched the Barca game last night, YAYA was Immense!
Not only he was great at breaking the opposition play, winning the ball but he also played like playmaker at times. he had a great run for Messi's first goal.
I cant believe AW had him on trial but thought he wasnt good enough.

I reckon he will be part of the Cesc deal

Yes that's what I think, but what I also think is he aint that good, and certainly no better than an improving Alex Song.flash gunner wrote:Arsene knowsMeds wrote:enough of talking about Song's bollocks!
