I don't understand why the Irish fans' reputation threatens Frank so much. The fact he doesn't seem embarrassed about his drum beating tantrum speaks volumes. Can't say I agree with the mod's choice to reply in kind with attacks on English history either. These sorts of conversations quickly deteriorate into stereotype. People are individuals Frank and you seem an arsehole.

I agree and likewise the english reputation abroad has been formed over a long period of hooliganism and now counts against the decent fans who are only there to support their country. I believe that wherever england go there will be a hardcore of local nutters wanting to take on the english cos of their rep and the local cops will also have a serious agenda against the english fans believing that if they dont clamp down on them straight away then riots will break out and that is stereotyping at it's worst. Having said all that there is no doubt that as a result of this there will be a number of english "fans" wanting to play the hardman wherever they go and as long as that mentality exists then it will be very hard for the rest of the world to let the past go

Oh, btw 3 arrested frank. Hardly hardcore hooliganism.

Typical Irish, twisting the article to suit their agenda. We all know the sheer scale of trouble over there and your sly way of reporting the facts is fooling no one. There may only have been three arrests of Irish people but we've seen the footage and know perfectly well that the trouble involved:

30 Polish people
7 Croatian people
3 Irish people and

Well im 2nd generation London Irish so I guess I can speak for both camps, and I say the following.....

Why are we even having this conversation, what is the point of it and ultimatly it will end up in getting the thread locked. Its just childidh and immature so down with this sort of thing, and careful now.

Anyway I do believe their is a certain game on tonight that is of interest to most of us so how about we discuss that.

Looks like all Arsenal players involved will be on the bench tonight. I for one have a sly feeling Theo will come on and have a positive impact on the game. I might even have a sly £5 on him to score anytime. Ill put my mortgage on it , ha ha.

83 % voted we would beat Croatia in a phone in poll on National TV :banghead:

We just don't have the quality anymore and it came as no surprise that we were beaten. I, like others here, watched it at home so I could actually watch it instead of having to put up with peeps who watch thru rose tinted glasses. Too many of our players play at Championship level and while I think they can be hard to beat they lack quality that will help them overcome teams ranked higher than them. They just lack any spark for me. Would like to see McClean get a run next time out against Spain.

Looking forward to the matches tonight. Personally I hope England win and having not seen much of the Ukraine and interested to see how they perform on their home turf.

Fantastic championship so far I have to say. :D

looking forward to the england game today and will be interested to see how england get on without rooney, going to be a struggle for them against a good french side i fear, as for the other game that will be a draw.
you fear? just admit it, you'll be waving your french flag around come 5 o'clock! 8)

edit- surely I'm not the only one that noticed Croatia were much louder than the Irish last night despite having about a quarter of the numbers- yet ITV kept banging on about them as if they're anything to do with us :?

oh and Gunner Ace has come out as Irish- have him taken to the tower :x

TBH mate it wouldn't surprise me if the Irish lads were attacked first. Hard to say of course but I know a lot of Poles (who seem to be a fairly fucked up lot) don't like the Irish or Croatians and accuse them of being nazi sympathisers. Equally they're pretty right wing and don't seem to like anyone who fought against the nazis either. They basically don't seem to like anyone and are looking for an excuse to kick off. If the Irish lads were attacked first and were simply fighting back then I'm glad they've been released, they'll have been on edge going there knowing there are rumours of trouble around the tournament so if you're attacked you hit your attackers hard, swift and worry about the consequences later. I enjoy a bit of banter about Ireland on here (although reading back I seem to have been one of the well behaved ones last night 8) ) but really I just hope this trouble isnt repeated and that the Irish lads out there can enjoy their trip, their piss up and can get back safe and sound.

Now I just need to worry about the England fans who are over there, a lot of the Ukraine lads seem to want a pop at the England fans due to our reputation but since football violence is all but dead and certainly it is amongst those who are going to this tournament (mainly middle class, middle aged blokes), I don't fancy our chances if anyone tries anything. Really looking forward to France 2016 tbh, that'll be for us a bit like this one is for Ireland, all the groups of younger lads can go on the piss and we'll take well over 100k I'd imagine since its the first easily affordable, short trip since the world cup in germany (which was mint). Might get a bit trouble there since a load of lads were put on 10 year banning orders before Germany 2006 so they'll be able to travel again but hopefully there wont be too much bother and it'll just be an amazing pissup, just need to get this tournament and Brazil out of the way first!

WOW so much hate on here LOL! I didnt realize the level of animosity between the Irish and English. As an American all I can say is that over here the Irish are in a way idolized for some reason. Everyone loves a green shirt and getting drunk. If I had a nickle for every "kiss me I'm Irish" t-shirt I've seen... Don't get me started on St. Patricks Day. As for the English....well...no such love I'm afraid. TBH I dont know why the Irish are so lauded. I mean the crunts living in Boston are the worst kind of sports fans in this country and their accent makes me want to puke. I fucking hate Boston :box:

Anyways, for the football. The Irish team is probably the worst team in this tournament. I mean, who is their best player? Robbie fucking Keane? How they made it this far I dont know. I suspect Croatia and Spain to come our of that group. I'm going to ride with Germany and the Dutch still to come out of that group, though the Danes certainly gave themselves a great shot. Russia looks like the easy winner of group A, and I'll take the Greeks with them. England France should make it out of this group, but I could see the loser of today's game maybe struggling if Sweden win today as well.

Lads,

I have an apology to make. To all the Irish lads that i insulted, I am sorry. I was over the top and shouldn't have been as frank in my views as I was. To be fair, it's the English broadcasters that get my goat, and I'm not the only one. You see, we have a strange set-up in the UK. Despite the entire nation knowing that England are useless, the press build us up year after year and thus the World believes that the English have an arrogant "we are the best in the world" belief. Meanwhile our national broadcasters cheer-lead everyone but England, despite the reality being that most England supporters are genuinely alright and well-behaved. Consider that we receive provocation wherever we go because of our well-earned reputation as hooligans, the fans are even better than you would believe. The Irish have a reputation as great fans. That's fine, but I just don't see it. I don't think you're any better a set of fans than the Dutch, Croatians, Germans, Czechs etc. I'm fed up of our own national broadcaster shoving it down my throat. We're not in Ireland. Ireland aren't even part of the UK. Despite your beliefs to the contrary most Irish will secretly want France, Ukraine and Sweden to beat us.

Anyway, I digress. Apologies and see you all in Cologne. :box: 8)
