Well done Quartz Gooner.
You have been championing him, and others, for sometime now.

It's comforting that you've called one right ☺️

WENGER OUT
G88ner too, we both noticed him in the summer of 2008 when he played pre-season games and was sharp in the tackle and full of vigour.
Thought "That will be useful".

But been calling them right for ages :D

If he's fit we'll lose by a landslide. No defensive organisation, they will swarm all over us and at 2-0 we'll start playing....and at that point realise how utterly ***** they are in defence too.

Some Three Stooges type defending at both ends, with us on the wrong end of a high scoring game
Well how fucking delighted am I to be 100% wrong, wrong, wrong........THE most enjoyable, disciplined, gutsy, savvy performance against a top four rival in many a moon. Who knows if Coquelin will ever play another game like that......who knows if Kompany will ever be as shit again......who knows if that was a 'one off' or whether There's Only One has suddenly woken from his 8 year slumber......I don't fucking care right now.....we went to City, kept a clean sheet and fucking won

Especially pleased for all the lads who travelled up there, packed into the away corner at the end. Like the good old days of Anfield or Old Trafford emptying at a rate of knots whilst the travelling Gooners took the piss. A victory well overdue to those hardy souls who have seen us have our arses kicked from pillar to post over the past few seasons in games like that

Not one single thing to moan about.....I could get used to feeling happy on a Monday :D

Away fans were immense, you could hear them still signing during the post-match interviews in the press area. Poznan's always a great piss take.

He pushed Wenger 2 or 3 times on why he had approached this game differently even though Wenger attempted to sweep the question under the carpet by insisting that the approach hadn't been different in this game! Yet again the whole footballing world could see a different set up but nope, Wenger wasn't having any of that. It was down to having the BFG and Kos back together again, that's all. Nothing to do with giving up possession and packing the midfield then hitting them on the break..nope we did that at Liverpool apparently as well....sorry?!
Why did a great performance and day out again have to be spoiled by yet more bullshit. Not having worked a day in football doesn't mean that we're fucking thick.
You changed your approach for the first time in YEARS in a game against a top side in the league but you can't bring yourself to admit that cos it would show that you fucked up so many times before.

Terrific performance by the whole team and in the words of Souness let's hope this is the start of playing footie with different hats on each week!! :barscarf:

Any possibility that the defensive positioning of our midfield was an on pitch decision ? Would be surprised if it was myself, but why would le cock try to dismiss the suggestion that we were set up different tactically yesterday ? :? I get the suggestion that some fans think that he wont admit changing things because he wouldn't want to suggest that he was wrong in the previous games, but surely any manager would prefer to be seen as a guy who is perceptive and tactically flexible ? The man likes to claim all the credit for even tiny success that the club has nowadays so why wouldn't he try to tell the world what a genius he is ?

Augie simply put the man is egotistical and by admitting that he changed things would mean admitting that previously he hadn't thought he needed to, that would mean admitting previously he had been wrong and he is quite simply unable to admit that those who have not worked 30 years in football and who had been calling for a change in tactics had been right :banghead:

I just hope (perhaps hope beyond hope!?) That Wenger will now adopt a fresh (and realistic) approach to individual teams andgames - and not just treat them as if they were all the same - which is what his usual tippy tappy approach does, much to most Gooners embarrassment and frustration.

If we can play this game once - (And Win!) We can do so again as and when required - Had we adopted these tactics and formation against Manure we would have bumholed them 7 - Nil at least - coz lets be honest they were dire shyte - we were just more shyttier...

This isn't the first time that Wenger has used a similar 'tactic' when playing, I think back to the 2005 FA Cup final when we had a few injuries and I don't know what the possession stats were that day but we hardly crossed the half-way line during the game, (but they must have been similar to last Sunday's) so Wenger has got it in his locker to play this way, perhaps the criticism that he received this day when employing them somehow swayed him from doing so again? :?

I've got to admit I loved it but will we get more of the same or was it a one-off? Hmmm... I doubt it somehow!

My absolute delighted in the 24 hours after the game has slowly been whittled away to the point that I am concerned about the repercussions of this result already :( I think most sane/realistic people are fully aware that sundays tactics do not suggest a u turn in his planning and I fully expect him to revert to type when we play in the shithole in the coming weeks  The part that really concerns me though, is the suggestion that le cock has turned a corner, that coquelin deserves a new deal, that we don't need a big quality DM and the our needs in the transfer market isn't as huge as we thought after all - it seems like all sanity has gone out the window based on one great performance and result

Pretty much texted same to a friend just now. As asked before on this forum If Wenger was proven right by Sunday , then by extension is he not proven wrong by so many abject surrenders ?
I thought Coquelin was good against Stoke but take the poor opposition into account the jury was out, thought he was excellent on Sunday but , and I posted this at the time, I saw him in Autumn playing for Charlton and he was very average.
I am not sure that Coquelin will be the defensive midfielder we so badly need, I would like to think so but by assuming he is that player Wenger would be taking a massive gamble. I imagine Wenger was glowing, and still is, after Sunday. He probably feels massively vindicated but like all walks of life if you suddenly and unexpectedly get something right after years of not doing so the bigger question is or should not be that you got it right it should be why it took so long to rectify the glaring obvious.

Yeah I think we're already seeing once again why, under Wenger, there is always a downside to the things that should be 100% positives. Only the most delusional fans can claim winning the FA Cup didn't come at a price ... and so it will probably be with this victory.

Didn't we do a similar thing against Liverpool though? We definitely dropped deep in that game and then tried to hit them on the break. We weren't as good in that game, but perhaps it's not the 'one off' thing most people think it is. Even against Chelsea this year thinking about it we weren't as cavalier. It may very well be a new adoption from now on.

I do not know a single person who thinks this result was a watershed.

But I know many fans, and have seen many mainstream media articles, that ask if the good performances, team shape and team selection will be replicated in future.
