I could be wrong but haven't all of the Home Nations actually opted out of this form of the 5-year residency rule? I'm fairly sure that they instead implement the rule that you have to have received 5 years full-time education in the country instead (hence how Robert Earnshaw was able to play for Wales at 21 whereas under the normal residency rules would have had to wait til 23 as he would have to have resided for 5 years as an adult).

If that's the case it's reversible but England would not only have to make the controversial decision to pick him, they'd have to change their own rules to do so.

In any event this debate will die down pretty shortly and the kid will end up playing for Belgium when he realises they're actually decent and he'll get his chance as long as he's getting some playing time at United.

I can't seem to find this quote anywhere. What I can find is "If you lived in England for five years for me it doesn’t make you English". You'd have to be pretty creative to interpret that as nobody born outside England can be classed as English.

By law someone is entitled to apply to take on that country's nationality after they have lived their legally for x amount of years.
Who the fuck does this trumped up little shit think he is to say or suggest otherwise, maybe he is worried that if any decent foreign players where to take up this option, then "he" not being really all that good, may find he is no longer the "great white hope" of English football.

Wilshere has only played their a handful of times this season as others have been out. I think you're making this a bigger issue than it really is (perhaps trying too hard to look for negatives?)
