Citeh don't have to worry about money though, so that's hardly a fair comparison is it?

ManUre, Liverpool and Sp*rs are probably more close to reality as at least they seem to care about money spent. We're behind them as well like, so I'm not defending our inaction... just that comparing us to Citeh is always going to make us look silly.
umm... i thought we had 140million ?
I've no idea how much we have, but I don't think it's reasonable to compare us with Citeh (or PSG or Monaco) as their financial might would probably pay off the world's debts, and still have change to pay Bendtner what he thinks he's worth  :? :(
I think it is.

Perhaps not in pure fiscal terms. But certainly in terms of what they have identified as needed to catapult themselves back up to the top of the Premier League.

We know what we need. We've needed it for about 5 years. But we're sitting on our hands till they go numb and we can jerk ourselves off whilst it feels like a stranger is doing it.

Cheap thrills man, I'd rather pay the extra and have a brass pull me off.

I've always wondered if wanking yourself off with a numb hand really works? :rubchin:

Anyway, when it comes to clubs who are that rich, you can't separate out the financial aspect because that's what enables them to catapult themselves up the league in the first place!

It's not because their manager is more ambitious... it's because he can point a chubby finger at any player he wants and say "I want that one" and next thing you know he's got Yaya Toure on £300k a week in midfield and a choice of Tevez, Dzeko, Aguero and Balotelli in attack.

It's not comparable in any way, shape or form, so I'm not sure what lessons we can learn from clubs like that other than convince Kroenke to get Usmanov to spend his money on the team.

Yes we have money and yes we have needs, but that doesn't mean we're going to spend it all early in the window if it doesn't represent the best use of our limited budget, which is what my reply to clockender was getting at (although I didn't actually say that in so many words   )

I agree with the tone of your post, but not when discussing Citeh, Monaco and PSG, as they're sadly on a whole other planet to everyone else. :(

G88ner, I disagree.

But cos its you, I'll do it nicely and thoughtfully. Yay me.

Early on in the days of massive reconstruction cash rich clubs do buy everything and anything.

What I'd say about City is look where they buy these days. Its always on the offensive side. GK and defence is settled pretty much year on year.

Example:

Balotelli vs any other striker. Hart vs any other keeper.

One piece is interchangable one isn't. Both players are probably as good as their counterparts anywhere else in the world. Them mother fuckers know what they are doing these days. They ain't scattergunning the money anymore. Just paying vastly over the odds. Something that it takes to get movement in the transfer market. Wenger pays over the odds for average players as the total outlay doesn't look that big and he'll probably get most of the money back when they don't turn into Thierry Henry or Patrick Vieira.

ESPN:

17.10 BST: Roma are set to sign Gervinho next week according to Sky Sport Italia. Apparently the Rome club have had two bids of €6m turned down but have now agreed a fee and the deal is expected to go through at some point next week. Music to Arsenal fans' ears.

Best all round if he moves on.

So far just Dan "Alastair" Crowley and Yaya Sonogo.

But five weeks left until the deadline, a long time in football.
Understand Augie's frustrations, want Higuain, Cesar and others to sign but cannot believe we will leave it at just two signings.

Two signings? Crowley doesn't count, he's just 15. Sanogo is 4th choice CF at best.

As far as I see it we haven't signed ANYONE yet and it's not good enough.

I'm guessing we are getting 8m for Gerv. Not a huge loss but I do think our reputation as a club you can pull a fast one makes it difficult to get a decent fee. Take Barca/Fabregas. Now we just need to get rid of Bendtner,Chamakh and Park. Easier said.

Higuain transfer back on as apparently Napoli not willing to meet price set by Real.

IVAN ; " Arsene, the fans back home are moaning again, they say even Crystal Palace are spending more than us"

ARSENE; "They always moan , why can they not be more like the real superfans out here ?, they never chase our bus back home for five miles, they never greet us at the airport when we finish our European Campaign in March. The fans out here are so much more gullible , sorry I mean stupid, sorry I mean super"

IVAN " Lets float that daft Higuain rumour again, that should placate the crowd back home for a while"

ARSENE " Thirty years in football has taught me well Ivan, throw in a Suarez story and we should be ok 'til September 3rd."

Sky Sports:
Reports coming out of Italy from the Corriere dello Sport claim Napoli's €35million (£30m) offer for Gonzalo Higuain has been accepted by Real Madrid. It means Arsenal look set to miss out on the Argentine striker.
