The Summer 2014 TRANSFER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I'll have you know Khedira started off as a sitting DM and played that role for Stuttgart. Also Schweinsteiger is very much a box to box CM.

Did you watch the game last night ? Schweinsteiger gave an exhibition in defensive discipline
Schweinsteiger is an out and out champion and winner - he is single minded, disciplined, professional and class. He is what Arsenal should be looking for. Tries his guts out - I think I have a crush!

Because Khedira wasn't on the pitch. If he was Schweiny would have played his natural box to box game. When you have Kroos partnering you in midfield you have to sit deep, and he has the intelligence to do that obviously.

I think his wage demands are too high although I'd like to see him at Arsenal and hope they can sort something out so we can sign him. If not, then as you say we should look elsewhere.

If true, 200,000 to 110000 or 130000 is too big a drop. Cant honestly see him fitting in with that approach. No way is he better wage wise than Ozil Sanchez or Rambo

Agree 100%

According to all the papers & rum our mill we have now given up on trying to sign Khedira due to his high wage demands...apparently his agent nor Khedira would listen to anything below £150k a week - jeeeezzzusss I wish I could earn that a year!

We should be going for schneiderlin (sp?) Young, fiesty, skilled and a damn fine prospect ! also a lot cheaper that that money grabbing *word censored*

Only Gianluigi Buffon (81.1%) had a better saves to shots ratio than David Ospina (80.3%) in the top five leagues last season.

And Italy had the highest pass completion % so what does that prove ? Quoting stats like that are ridiculous cos it doesn't allow for the quality of opposition strikers or how easy/hard the shots were to save etc etc

It's unlikely he'll be much cheaper, if at all. They want in excess of 20M for Lovren for fuck sake! Not to mention the ridiculous sums they wanted (and got) for Lallana and Shaw.

So are you now claiming that khedira plays the DM position for Germany ? :? Schweinstiger has played alongside kroos in all of their games and played the DM role in them all so why you are citing kroos as the reason for schweinstiger sitting deep is beyond me. Khedira is not a DM and just because you are orgasmic at the prospect of signing him, doesn't make him a DM - I get that you went into overðrive when Sanchez signed cos played in the right system he could be a huge signing for us, but now it seems that you are more interested in star signings than signings that will improve the balance and shape of our team and will help us prevent humiliating thrashing at our rivals - khedira would just be another player caught too far forward in these games and I would prefer to stick with arteta than buy khedira for the DM position

the best option would be the leverskusen bender.

a proper DM unlike khedira, but can also box to box as necessary. and far superior to the overrated southampton french bloke (i think all the soton players are overrated just because they had half a good season)

he would be the most cost effective too and if we wanted him we could get him.

Re the possibility of signing schnederlein (sp ?), I can't help but wonder if it would be le cocks idea of a "safe bet" - ie sticking with his comfort zone of French and African players. No champs league experience, can't get into an average French team and is generally unproven at the top level. Would any of you shell out the same money for him over signing bender for example ? Not a money saving buy so you would compare the abilities and experience and for me the German wins that every day of the week.

Bender seems the obvious choice to me and gettable... only downside is lack of premiership experience, but he does play in a similar league so worth taking that chance imho.

A proper DM he may be but Leverskusen don't need the money. Their GM said as much a few days ago. So though his wages would be lower than Greedira, the upfront fee would start from £25-30million.

Funny feeling we won't get a DM.

Schneiderlin will get tired of waiting and will head to another club, probably the scum. Martinez doesn't sound like he's on the market, Vidal is out of our price range.

AW likes Fellaini and did try for him last season. Then the Telegraph are saying we want a player included in the TV5 sale coupled with one of the papers last week saying Van Gaal wants shot of Fellaini.

It all points to us getting lumbered with him. Except he's not a DM.

If we end up with that mug it will take all the gloss off of the Sanchez signing, Fellaini is a dirty, hoofing, ill disciplined waste of space and I wouldn't want him anywhere near the club.
