Dare say that you don't need to be coming up with fanciful stuff like that to prove Wenger has been largely fucking useless in the transfer market for a long time
Hmmm. I also mentioned Diego Costa - or will you claim that was a done deal too? He had a £32m release clause, Atletico hadn't received any formal release clause bids for the first few weeks. Why didn't Wenger bid? The point made about Lewandowski is that even if it seems as if Bayern have it wrapped up, why not try and nab him? Offer Dortmund money (though it wasn't needed) and ask the question. Pedro to ManYoo was done wasn't it more or less? So how did Chelski end up getting him? How did they also end up getting Mata despite him virtually being an Arsenal player?

You ask the question. I never said it was a dead cert - my point was, AW doesn't even ever ask the question which is a small-time ridiculous attitude IMO

Ikechukwu1 wrote:G88ner. Errr my. How do I put this. Your "wait until the transfer window shuts" stance. The reason I find it so ridiculous is simple really: for about a Decade, we have been "waiting" to see if that clueless moron is able to demonstrate basic aptitude in the transfer market. And every year it's the same story. You've had TEN solid years of evidence - I'm not talking one or two windows here. The outcome is always the same so why "wait"?

You've already seen teams that were already far superior to Arsenal adding the likes of Otamendi with Stones a dead feet to join Chelski. Meanwhile, Mertesacker carries on like the useless giraffe-turd nugget he is.
You've seen Giroud awarded £130k a week - any basic knowledge tells you that means it's huge wages that can't be given to a new marquee striker. You've seen a benchwarming sprinter awarded £140k a week simply for managing a cup final goal against a shite Villa side managed by Tactics Tim.

You've got previous evidence of Wenger's transfer market inaction costing the team points already - think only signing players after getting thrashed at home to Villa. Think his retard trolley dash after that 8-2. Think signing Arshavin (when miraculously we "had no money" yet found £17m and £100k a week somehow lol) only when Villa looked like nabbing 4th. Think back to getting rid of Vermaelen and taking the piss entering the season with no defenders, only to finally sign Gabriel after several pathetic results.

All that evidence - and there's stacks of it - smacks of someone who doesn't give a shit about winning and only wants to do the bare reactive minimum when things get hot. Like I said, there's TEN years of evidence. Which makes your "wait and see" stance quite funny really.

Wait for what? Is he actually going to sign a replacement for the useless Mertesacker? Is he going to sign a better DCM than the mediocre French Coquelin, his latest pet project? Having given 2 clowns a combined £270k a week, is he then going to give Lewandowski £180k a week? The answer is obvious!

But yeah. Let's "wait and see" LOL
Why are you telling me this? :? you're preaching to the converted mate! - I want Wenger gone. He does the bare minimum to achieve 4th instead of pushing for more. I also agree that most transfer windows have gone badly....

But that's got nothing to do with this conversation, so why tell me?

This transfer window has been a pile of steaming dogshit so far. We can ALL see that, not just you so give it a rest. I'm not a fucking idiot; It's just that we've been here before and history tells us late signings are nothing new so why should I dismiss the possibility of signing more players before the end of the window? :?

We ALL would love world class players signed early so they have time to settle in. But I have no influence on when we sign players and I know we could sign players late in the window instead. It doesn't mean I'm happy about it, but what can I do?

I dunno mate, I think your biggest problem is that you're so busy attacking and ridiculing people that you don't take the time to understand their views properly.
- I just don't think my views are as ridiculous as you make out. If anything, my views are more apathetic as a result of years of disappointment hence my acceptance that signings may come late (or not at all) instead of losing my shit in mid-June over something that isn't worth getting worked up about.

So basically, I agree with much of your post. I hold similar views... but why are you telling me?
Ok well thanks for clarifying, fair play then. Dunno I just got the impression that you tended to have ready-made excuses lined up for Wenger's inaction but tbf, if it's apathy then I get it.

I questioned this also the other day (yes, it's true! :o ) because Chelsea seemed to have a free run at him even though we need a striker :x ... but then again, to be fair and balanced, maybe Arsenal did enquire about Diego Costa? who knows. Maybe he said he wanted to play at Chelsea under Mourinho?

We haven't won anything other than the FA Cup in over a decade and fail every year in the CL. It wouldn't surprise me if that convinces players like Costa, Lewandowski, etc. to snub us for Chelsea, Bayern, etc.

As I said, we probably got Ozil and Sanchez because we weren't facing fierce competition for their signatures. It was the timing/circumstances of deals rather than our huge pulling power.

Everton: Andriy Yarmolenko could move to Goodison for £14.25m

Oh, shit  if that happens, aren't we BOTTOM of the transfer spending league this summer?

I am happy that we have a prudent manager in these times of FFP.

Look at what happened to Portsmouth.

Yep and that's the same Everton that are staging protests against their board and trying to oust Bill Kenwright due to their inaction in the market. Meanwhile our simpletons who worship at the alter of Ivan, Stan and Wenger will no doubt say that Le Hasbeen will strengthen in January the very minute this cluster fuck of a transfer window closes. Always selling the future (and the window lickers buy into it every single time), the greatest fucking fraudster the world has ever seen.

really?

Considering how much you criticise arsenal, I'm surprised you're so confident those players would choose to play for arsenal over playing under mourinho at Chelsea and treble winners bayern Munich.

Hey, I'm surprised but you're right of course. You always are.
Oh you're right. Even though my point was he should have Tried for those players - fundamental point being he doesn't even bother bidding for top players unless they fall into his lap. Pay attention now please or maybe you'll be better at ease with that incredible book of apologetic excuses you wrote about 5 years ago?

And doesn't your question kinda contradict your point that dear Arsene managed the awesome feat of signing world class players Ozil and Sanchez? How did he beat all those other top clubs to their signings then? Unless they wasn't actually any competition for them? :rubchin:

Also, where's your standard "can't judge whether my undercooked lasagna dinner was an absolute failure until the transfer window is shut" line? Or maybe I'll wait to judge this post "until the window is shut"
:barscarf: :barscarf:
RE the bit in red. As you've been so vocal about "top quality" Karim Giroudzema on here, can you confirm which other top clubs Wenger will have to beat to his signature? That's how you are quantifying the player's ability right?

GoonerMuzz wrote:I find Wenger's transfer business even more unusual this time round, if what Lord Harris said the other week is even a quarter true, we'd have about about £50M to spend taking into account the sales and then buying Cech, i'd estimate we still have in the region of £40-45M+ left and with the changes to the winnings structure for the CL we'll get about another £15M more than usual just for getting to the group stage.

He must be the only manager in history so absolutely sure of the strength of his current squad not to spend to strengthen, either that or does anyone know if Le Cock's contract includes bonus payments for money left in the bank :rubchin:

But seriously he can't honestly believe that after finishing so far behind Chavski last season and that with them, both Manc Scums and the Bin Dippers all strengthening that we don't need to do the same, you'd have to be seriously deluded wouldn't you???

It's gonna be a long 12 days guys :barscarf:
BFG4 wrote:Most of Wenger's transfer activity (or lack of) is down to two reasons. 1. He knows that the clubs aim is to finish top 4, and with the current squad we will easily finish 4th. 2. There is no pressure from fans to make signings, infact we have some of our fan base trying to pretend that Giroud is the next Henry, and Coquelin is the next VIeira.
I mentioned this a few pages back I believe there are several possibilities that explain why things are the way they are -

1) Top 4 is genuinely considered a 'success' - Wenger is resigned to the fact that we can't compete with the oil barons (despite having £X million in the bank) and that we've found our level (4th... 3rd if we're lucky)
2) Wenger serves Wiggy and is only about the money i.e. finish top 4, get the champions league money, get his bonus/pay-rise, job done
3) Wenger is an ego-maniac - it's either his way or the highway
4) Wenger is delusional and genuinely believes the squad is good enough
5) Wenger's principles - he wont spend the way everyone says he should and he views it as a 'moral' victory

The first 4 are miserable and negative, but that's exactly how it is at Arsenal PLC. And whilst possible and entirely plausible, I don't believe Wenger is all about the money. The 'moral principles' arguments would be somewhat ironic given the fact that he trousers £8M a year.

I was incredibly happy when we broke the trophy drought and won the FA Cup in 2014, and best of all it was fantastic to see Wenger smiling again. I just don't understand why it doesn't motivate him to push on and have one last real crack at the PL and CL.

Just do what I do mate - refuse to give the fuckers anymore of your hard-earned. I've even cancelled Sky/BT (c*nts) and am much better off for it.

Postman pat, I think it's a mixture of the points you mentioned. The loser mentality of Wenger is what frustrates me. How many excuses has he come up with in the last 10 years for the teams failures. I've said this before on here but back in 2003 Wenger talked about the disappointment of finishing 2nd, yet that season we led the league for most of the season and won the FA cup. Imagine what a success Wenger would treat the same season this time around :banghead:

I don't buy into the "Wenger has a loser's mentality" argument at all. I think he is just so far out of touch with reality that he does believe his way is the right way and his ego will not allow him to listen to anyone else's ideas. This is a man, the only man in modern English football, to win the title and go a whole top flight league season unbeaten. Just take that in for a minute. Nobody in that league could beat him. Nobody. In his world he has proven (to himself at least) that he is right. :| And he really believes he can get it right again. Unfortunately the game has moved on and left him behind in many ways.

A big part of the problem for me is our club is run by moral cowards and/or greedy bastards that A) won't challenge him or B) don't want to rock the money generating boat. :x

DB10 i think you've hit the nail with the highlighted part, although i'd go slightly further and say it is not just the club but a good proportion of us fans that are at fault too. :rubchin:

No matter how bad things seem and how much some of us complain we actually do very little about the situation for varying reasons and therefore little or no pressure is put on the club to change things.

I agree he is out of touch with reality in many senses, but there is a difference between not accepting the need to change, and at times doing things that are a sign of accepting mediocrity. How many years have we been short in a couple of positions, do you really think a previous title winning manager wouldn't know we need players, but in Wenger's case, it's about 4th place finishes and not titles. As far as I'm concerned, If your a manager that is proud of finishing 4th, and isn't willing to make a proper attempt at winning the title, then you have a loser mentality.
