THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

It is criminal that he has never been given a job, any job, in what should be his spiritual home
I can see Wenger being sneeringly dismissive of Tony's comments.
His exact quote when asked about it...

"Well, I do not give much importance to what Tony Adams says, honestly."

In the same pre-match interview he said it wasn't the good times that he remembers, it's the bad times.
Keep up the good work lads, keep the bad memories coming for Wenger.

In fact I hope he signs for another 2 years, and "his" Arsenal playing in "his" Stadium end up mid-table.

"My" Arsenal died with Highbury, at least I've got all my brilliant memories. He can't take those away from me

.

Couldn't agree more with last line. 1987 league cup final, will I ever feel like that again about our football club. Total joy and togetherness amongst real fans.

All the best Arsene,I hope and pray that you get a record 7th and our record 13th fa cup in the bag next saturday before you go and if the footballing gods are watching then a comfortable win by 2 clear goals would be nice :barscarf:

TA6 is my all time no1 AFC legend and he has to publicise his book :blah: :blah: but I have got to agree with my lord and master on this one and think he his spot on to dismiss critciism from TA6 regarding coaching

Ive got a solution. Let's post the DVD of the 1989 win at Anfield to Wenger and Kroenke. That really sums up the true spirit of Arsenal and eclipses anything Wenger did because the 2004 unbeaten team was all too easy. You didn't feel the impossible dream it just happened and then went to shit.

I think people are hugely missing the point here .
Tony didn't think Wengers strengths were as a coach whilst he himself was was a player .
In those days the team didn't need much coaching ,we had intelligent and strong minded players .
Nowadays we don't have that calibre of player as Arsene doesn't like them and there are no other coaches at Arsenal worthy of the name because he is all powerful .
It is why our team often doesn't seem to know what its doing !
Arsene can dismiss all he wants but the fact is he isn't up to the Job of coach .

He really does believe he built the stadium doesn't he? How can he not have the humility to say to the journalist who suggested this that it was a direction taken by the club as a whole? He just took the entire credit for it in that presser.

Will Pochettino be sitting there in 5 years time, if he is still there, saying he built Spurs' new ground? Somehow I doubt it!

He knew what sort of players he had in the early years and his gift to them was to coach/manage there lifestyles and diets to prolong their careers and I witnessed the coaching methods that he instilled in the academy when he first came and he was ahead of the game ,so poor coach not for me

Just because Tony himself may not be gifted as a coach it doesn't mean that his opinion of Wenger's coaching is worthless. Some of the greatest managers in the history of the game were mediocre players, but their experience of having played the game qualified them to judge and work with good ones.

Tony was a great player and leader. His views are important because he was captain of the club for a long spell under two Arsenal managers. He comes across as an honest, fair and reflective bloke. I haven't read his book, but I know he has credited Wenger for being supportive and encouraging when he was dealing with his alcoholism demons and getting his lifestyle back on track. So when he says the man can't coach for toffee, there is not a trace of spite or vindictiveness in him. He is calling it as he sees it, and is entitled to be listened to rather than dismissed as irrelevant.

If TA had said someting along the lines of Wenger should be given a 2 yr contract there would be plenty on here dismissive but say something hitting Wenger with another stick and we all have to agree

Enjoy the cup final people :barscarf:

Hot off the press - are we about to see our very own russian revolution a century after the last one?

https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football ... d-billion/

And if he does buy Kronke out, will he put an ice pick through Wenger, despite his previous cautious noises of support for him? I would have thought he will do, new broom and all that. He is not going to be committed enough to want to bid a billion without bringing in someone who can transform the club under him.

At the very least, we'll be able to look the chavs in the eye at Wembley and say that we're owned by someone who is considerably richer than yow!

I thought Usmanov not only wanted Wenger to stay but also pick his own successor.

That's exactly what he said.

Although if Kroenke did decide to sell the golden egg he is sitting on to Usmanov, I don't think Wenger would stick around to find out that Usmanov is a fickle *word censored*.
