Van Persie saga, officially not extending contract.
Re: Van Persie Saga/Coffee morning
One good year? What have you been smoking? So RvP's 10/11 campaign didn't exist

To be fair he did miss a 3rd of the season through injury.Remember Chamakh was scoring the goals

Re: Van Persie Saga/Coffee morning
Maybe, but he was one of the few who performed from his return to the end of the season including the collapse post-CC Final.donaldo wrote:Sutch wrote:One good year? What have you been smoking? So RvP's 10/11 campaign didn't exist

A season is longer than Jan to May.

Re: Van Persie Saga/Coffee morning
Which is a part of the problem, in 8 years he has completed one whole season, how can you be sure he won't sign a big contract then go back to playing 15 league games a year?
Perspective is needed here.
I don't want him to go, far from it but can see both sides to it, had he been 26 then its a different story but he's gonna be 29.

agreed 100%. to be in a position to play at Arsenal means you've done well for yourself, why leave it for money and extar chances at a trophy when technically speaking you have something to win at Arsenal anyway? If I won the league with Madrid would I really give a shit? I want to win it with my team ALWAYSLDB wrote:g88ner wrote:Even as a life long gooner, I'd put my career first and leave. As a gooner, if I was good enough to play for my club I would never leave it just to win tin pots with some other bunch of *word censored*. Thats the difference between fans and players, they'll give us the PR spiel about how the club is "in their heart" but its not. They may like the people and lifestyle they associate with Arsenal and London but they care not a fuck for the club. This doesn't upset me particularly (although I dont like being patronised), as long as they give 100% whenever they walk onto the pitch and honour their contracts/approach seeking a move in the right way then I cant complain.

He added: "I can only say that my intention is to play in the European Championship. And then go on to win the Champions League."

Hold on. Why isn't RVP impresses by the 3rd place trophy and "15 years of Champions League qualification"??!

Re: Van Persie Saga/Coffee morning
Fat Santos said today on ESPN Brazil - " It's normal for Robin to try a new club after 8 years at Arsenal"
Don't really know what it means, wasn't actually watching the live feed, but he also said that they text each other daily and hopes that after the Euros Robin and Arsène will sit down and talk.
On one hand, Santos is kinda famous for saying more than he should and might have too this time. On the other, he had 7 clubs in his career and never had the status Robin has at Arsenal and he speaks an awful English, so he himself might misunderstand things time and again.

Honestly, I'd leave if the club refused to show ambition.Henry Norris 1913 wrote:agreed 100%. to be in a position to play at Arsenal means you've done well for yourself, why leave it for money and extar chances at a trophy when technically speaking you have something to win at Arsenal anyway? If I thought Arsenal were pissing away my talent and career whilst not showing any ambition to compete, and repeatedly failing to learn lessons, then I'd walk. Fabregas was used to carry the team, and now that is on Van Persie. These players only get one career, and if they're good enough they should aim for the stars and get the most out of their short careers.
By the way... my post above is slighty wrong... as a gooner, if I left Arsenal, it would be to a foreign club... not United.
I'd only return if and when the club pulled their finger out (which would probably be when Wenger leaves)

Re: Van Persie Saga/Coffee morning
Personally I believe rvp has already left the club and has been asked him to keep it to himself until after the euros are over.
But what I don't believe is that had we won the pl/cl it would be any different, after all Henry was seeking a move when we were winning stuff as did viera.
Its got nothing to do with winning stuff imo, for instance had we won the cl last yeart RVP would still only have one year left on his contract and would be seeking the best possible last long contract of his playing career and he aint gonna get that at arsenal.
Arsenal have been a selling club for as long as I remember, back to the Liam Brady, frank stapleton days.
Its also about wanting to try a different lifstyle and club/fans etc and yes I am sure he would want to challenge for a title (which aint gonna happen for a long while at Arsenal imo) but regardless of whether or not we had won a bucket load of trophies in the last few years I still think he would look to leave as did henry and viera.
When listening to players excuses for leaving they can adjust the reason accordingly:
1) I want to challenge for trophies and unfortunately Arsenal are not able to provide this at the present (as it stands now and accurate)
OR
2) I have won the premier league, fa cup and champions league with Arsenal and have acheived everything that I had dreampt of in England so now I think it is the right time to face a new challenge in a new league (as it stands inaccurate but you get the drift).
Good luck to him but having been a staunch defender of his some years back when quite a few wanted him sold because of his injuries (which I fully understood) and I knew he was going to be one of the best in the world but I have to say I am a little disappointed that after ONE full season from him he is off.
If I was of a cynical nature I would question some of these "injuries" and his failure to play with "little knocks" until his final season with one last BIG contract coming up.......hmmmmmmm?.....that's IF I was cynical
If he sees out his last year and then goes on a free next year I wouldn't be too unhappy, he will be 30 that year and I can't think of many great forwards who were still great after passing the 30 mark, thats why I think he will go now, if he starts to show signs of decline next season or picks up more injuries then his bargaining power will greatly depreciate.
I just hope that podolski hits the ground running because if he doesn't last season will be forgotten as a farce and we will yearn back to the days of suffering humiliating defeats but still getting third.
Dark days ahead.............

Re: Van Persie Saga/Coffee morning
I'd be fucking amazed if he stays tbh.
I think at his level you want to win some major silverware before your career is up. It's as much about ego at that level as anything. When he is finished playing and has a career in the media does he want to see a Souness style caption under his name (Won 5 League titles, 3 European Cups and 4 League cups) or a Jamie Redknapp style caption under his name (played 26 times in Europe for Liverpool)?
To be classed as a true world class player you have to have the medals to show for it.
