I honestly thought we could have a bit of a joke calling for this shyteheap to be closed etc....

BUT!

All these endless false rumours are doing are pointlessly re-kindling all long lost hope of us signing anyone of quality...or even anyone else for that matter...all that's happening is impossible rumours are being bandied about as if they are genuine leaks from AW & Co and then when they've gained enough velocity, strength etc to be considered as perhaps, maybe even being possible - they are yet again dashed upon the rocks like the load of feckin' bollocks they are... :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: which just adds another heafty weight to the already unbearable depressed state of mind and spirit...so PLEASE! for the sake of everyone who has not yet contemplated the ole rope and razor...PLEASE CLOSE THIS FUCKER!

You've heard of the punishment of Tantalus, it's where we get tantalise from.
Tantalus (Greek Τάνταλος, Tántalos) was a Greek mythological figure, most famous for his eternal punishment in Tartarus: to stand in a pool of water beneath a fruit tree with low branches, with the fruit ever eluding his grasp, and the water always receding before he could take a drink
Just like being a gooner.

I am very hesitant about saying this but I honestly do feel that this thread should be locked and no thread of it's ilk should be opened again as long as the senile old c**t remains in charge  This feeling doesnt come from any sense of utter despair at a lack of signings but is more from a "what purpose is this thread serving" point of view :? Most Gooners accept the fact that our business is probably done but even if it isnt finished what is the point of endlessly debating the merits of deals that will never happen anyway ?

Arsenal will have to pay at least £20m if they want to prise playmaker Santi Cazorla from Malaga.

Full story: Metro

The Gunners, however, are close to landing Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin on a season-long loan.

You did the sensible thing, it was the beer talking, and I am ashamed for being so shallow to go there in the first place.

Thanks, I owe you a cold one

This thread is just fucking painful because we never actually sign the good players we're linked with in the type of reports on here. All of the players we are supposedly lining up on here a) are preposterous, or b) would fit into our team far too well and therefore won't happen.

Do think this thread is a good idea because it provides one forum for everybody to discuss whether players would fit into the club etc and I don't think anybody here is naive enough to 100% believe a report in the Daily Mirror that we're signing Pele or whoever.

If people think this thread serves no purpose and is just "fucking painful"... why keep coming back? Like it or not there's not much besides transfer rumours to discuss during the summer break. At least this keeps it all in one place so you can easily ignore it

Because I would be generally interested in a thread that contained information from reputable sources who actually knew things that were going on (have contacts etc...). Unfortunately, this sort of thing gets mixed up with the pile of twitter/blog shit, whose only interesting information is actually just lifted from the aformentioned sources. So, to get to the good stuff you have to wade through the steaming pile of manure and outright lies.

Edit: Mcdowell's a :censored: :D

Sorry, mate - the thread stays.

Like it or not (and I think some people have been clear on which camp they're in  ) well over 200 pages (and counting...) suggests it's the most popular thread on the forum, so there's no chance of it being locked.

I'd also argue that it's the most relevant thread, as we're in the heart of the summer transfer window and signings are on all our minds. :?

I actually think it's a good thing that all these [mostly] shite rumours are kept in one place instead of infecting the forum with every twitter bollocks rumour having it's own thread... now that would be painful (and more work for the mods :x )

We can't stop these rumours, so lets be thankful they're all in one place.

Anyway, I do wonder if people are aware that if they don't like a thread, then they can simply choose to ignore it... after all, after 200+ pages, you can't pretend you don't know what it's all about.

Anyway, enjoy the Olympics - the best summer distraction I could hope for! :unionjack:

I have to take you to task on this point mate. It has 200 pages because people (ok, Mcd  ) are just piling shit upon shit on to this thread, many times with the same original story being duplicated 5 or more times. I would say that the :censored: thread is more popular, the rumours thread is just more populated.

Anyway, it's a bit early to start hating our team again, so the rumours thread fill a void. So, while I want it put down, I also want it to remain.

 :rubchin: :?
