THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

2008.

this is why i laugh when people say that infighting is a new phenomenon in the past two seasons. this has been going on for near on 9 years because of that fraud in charge.
I was at that Fulham home game which he refers to - I remember it well because that useless prick Lehmann gave away a goal pissing about with the ball at his feet inside the first few minutes, and we were bailed out by a stoppage time winner. Certainly no fighting where I was. In fact, I used to go regularly until the last few years and never saw any fighting or really what I would call heated arguments between fans.

I have been on a handful of occasions last year and every game there has been aggro between fans, often culminating in physical violence and/or police having to wade in. Every fucking game. Even the one game I went to at the Emirates this year there were a few "fuck off"s exchanged when somebody questioned our Messiah, which is about as passionate as it gets at that place.

Probably the most peaceful game was the 3-2 defeat at Old Trafford last year, because there were no dissenting voices whatsoever and it was a sea of Wenger Out. Walcott got more stick from the fans then any opposition player I've ever known. And even then after the final whistle the police saved somebody from getting an absolute pasting.

Adrian Durham made osme great points.

Start of the year, Wenger left Ozil and K out of the team and we lost 4-3 to Liverpool. with Weger admitting ' we are ot ready'. Liverpool at Angield, leaves Sanchez on the bench, lose 3-1.

The team who finishes 1 point above us - Wenger made it easier in both games by leaving our better players out, when they were match fit.

This doesnt surprise me, as when I look at Wenger, I see Frank Spencer - just a guy who cant do anything right and his decisions leave you exasperated. Although, its not funny.

You literally wouldnt give Wenger you dog to walk, because he will fuk it up somehow.

If Wenger does re-sign, they will badge it as being against the backdrop of wider changes.

Would be utterly astounding that Wenger has been offered a new deal, never mind him befotiaring or issuing ultimatums. But entirely believable with this board.
This is what I'm expecting as well and they will sell it to us as a progressive move to push the club forward when in reality we could have done all this several years ago, this is the result of passive 'ownership', no drive, no ambition, no risk taking, just dull, boring, predictable s**t, we might as well be Tesco.

I hope next season every home game is half empty and the one's who do go are just there to chant Kroenke is a c**t and Wenger out.

the thing is what is so different from when the last contract was announced in 2014 ?
Wenger still makes money for Kroenke
so why wouldnt he be offered a new contract?

and why do you think the ground will be half empty next season?
there are still many who sadly will still renew their season ticket.
Does he still make money for him though? Coins in a top wage, spent nearly 100m on complete dross last year, our wage bill is nearly twice as high as Spurs' and he managed to minimise our revenue from CL progression and PL prize money whilst failing to deliver CL football next year.

In years gone by Wenger has made Kroenke money by not spending the money on transfers which any manager serious about winning the league would, yet scraping into 4th. Now he is in the habit of spunking away ridiculous sums on average players and sensible money says we will face a huge battle for top 4 next season if he stays.

Not saying that Kroenke will give him the boot but he's hardly a model of financial efficiency right now.
The old saying you don't own a football club to make money, still rings true

The real story is the 18points we finished behind the champions not our failure to land another CL participation award.

Yes,yes and fucking yes....Wenger says we missed out by a point...we finished 18 points from competing for the title and that is what Arsenal should be doing season after season...No one is demanding we win it every season but we are entitled to expect to compete..

Exactly! Who gives a flying fuck if we missed out on the CL by one point or that the mousers beat us to the shit virtual trophy CL spot - it's this habit we have over the last 13 years of finishing so far behind the champions that pisses me off. 18 points off the top is disgraceful considering what we pay in ticket prices, what we pay our manager, and what we pay our players. :x

When did Arsenal (and some Arsenal fans) begin to set our sights so low? :censored:

We missed out because of the terrible, damaging atmosphere that our fans made for the team since January, and because all the teams playing Liverpool and Man City in the past few weeks went on their holidays (unlike Southampton, Stoke, Man U and Everton who were all clearly at full throttle). Don't you guys read the opinions that matter from people that have worked in football for 30 years?

This. Wenger going on about missing out by a point, tells you all you need to know. He ain't bothered about winning the league.

Yet no matter how much contempt his shows to the supporters people still stayed silent...

As others have said, this is absolutely spot on. Wenger and the Club have done such a great job of lowering expectations, that hardly anyone is mentioning how far we are off the champions. Winning the title for us Gooners these days, is achieving 4th place, so we were only 1 point off being champions.

Listen chaps, top spot is not for the likes of us, we can't compete with the financially doped clubs like Chelsea, City and errr...Leicester. Anyway, you damned ingrates, just be thankful that we're not fighting relegation. Well, not yet anyway.

Oh....and aren't we signing a Nigerian kid from some Belgium club no one's ever heard of....there, you see, Arsene knows. It almost gave me as big a lift as the Bramall Cohen signing gave me.

We'll be fighting for the title next season I tells ya.....the 4th place title obviously.

One has to cast their mind back to the speech from P Diddy (hic) Wood after the final game at Highbury, promising us all Utopia and grander things to come!....
Wenger ( Who now resembles and acts like the Joker) must have missed that speech....
