SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not sign

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Anyone else think our Suarez bid is a deal between us and Liverpool to put out a false story - they get to raise his price, we get to show Real Madrid we won't be held to ransom over Higuain?
I mentioned something similar a week ago when the Suarez "bid" first came to light. I cant see the logic behind buying a striker who is banned for however many games at the start of next season and who is a ticking timebomb for another similar incident. It just has to be a way to speed up the Higuain deal, although it now seems he is on his way to Naples :?

If we sign Suarez, he will make his league debut for us in October

Soldado is close to moving to Sp*rs:

Tottenham Hotspur last night moved close to a deal to sign the Valencia striker Roberto Soldado. The Valencia president, Amadeo Salvo, admitted that the London club are "not far" from meeting the €30m (£26m) asking price which matches Soldado's official buy-out clause. Valencia would accept that figure as an agreement rather than an imposition, saving Spurs from having to pay tax on the fee.

Tottenham's director of football, Franco Baldini, travelled to Valencia on Monday morning, where he was met by Soldado's agent Alberto Toldrá. He then held meetings with Salvo in the afternoon, during which Spurs are understood to have improved their original bid of €24m.

Have always thought it from the start and felt the same about Rooney and Fellani but such tactics can backfire and has in the case of Suarez - Higuain posturing .

It makes sense that the more Madrid have to pay for Suarez the more they will ask for Higuain ,the market for strikers has gone up while we haggled due largely to our reportedly high bids for players, rather stupid to force the market up when u are short !
In chess u have to think more than one move in advance and clearly we haven't .
Napoli are now in for Higuain but he is stalling to see what Arsenal do ,which I fear will be nothing !

Still every cloud has a silver lining the scudetta medal winning Bendtner must be worth 15 million by now !

Same old Arsenal fiddling while Romes a blaze !

In fairness buddy he is totally unproven - the guy has no european experience whatsoever and has only 5 international caps and no major finals experience. If that doesnt class as unproven then I dont know what does :?

I think suggestions that we are using suarez to pressure real madrid over a deal for higuain is wishful thinking - you got to be thinking that higuain would be well pissed off at AFC's performance is these transfer negotiations and would be questioning how much they would really want him. In any case, the very second napoli entered the race for higuain's signiture such a plan should have gone up in smoke cos madrid would no longer feel pressure to reduce their demands. This saga has all the hallmarks of an AFC transfer balls up - IF we are/were keen on signing him then I feel that we will be the odd one out in this scenario as napoli get higuain, madrid get suarez, the victims get a cash injection to invest in hannibal replacements whilst we are in the same position that we currently are

Fact is, Brazil hand out caps like confetti, especially in crap competitions like the confederates cup. Recent years have been awash with so called Brazilian wonder kids who have amounted to nothing. If Arsenal were to sign Bernard for 20m+ I think it would be Wangers most negligent transfer deal in his history at the club. We could get Fellaini for a couple more million or a top striker for another 5m or so....in fact, Jovetic went for 22m! I hope it's bullshit for Wangers sake or maybe he only actually costs 6m with 15m in add ons?? Wanger is going to look mighty stupid (more than normal even) if he doesn't sign what we need but spends money on more kids. :banghead:

Jovetic may be an excellent footballer but he's not a top striker
doesn't score enough

Sorry Herd a bit harsh there. How about unproven kid with"potential" (most likely to flop under his Lordship's expert guidance)

In the interest of balance I would say that he could well prove to me a quality signing. I didn't really rate the signing of kos, but IMO he is a quality defender who is up there with the best in the league already.

Of course he could be shit this Bernie but fuck it, I'm in a good mood today :barscarf:
