The Summer 2014 TRANSFER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

In AW's eyes we already have 2players for every position

Gk Chesney/wouldn't be shocked if Vivian comes back
RB Debuchy/Manvuillo/Jenkinson
CB BFG/Kos/TV5, don't be surprised to see no one else come in
LB Gibbs/Monreal
DM Arteta/Jack
CM Rambo/Diaby/Rosicky
LF Poldi/Sanchez
RF Walcott/Gnabry
ST Giroud / Sanogo
:?: Where's The Ox, Ozil, Flamster and Santi?

Don't tell me the non-genius of wenker has sold them!?

Topgoon trying so hard to be negative he decided they don't play for us.

(Didn't include Joel either and who the fuck is Manvuillo??!? )
Not trying hard to be negative just speaking from experience. I said from the start not to get excited about our transfer policy as you would have to be insane and not to get angry about it either.

A leopard isn't going to change it's spots that quickly. We got Ozil, we didn't really need him but he gave everyone a lift at the time. The Sanchez signing is a good one but is as pointless as signing Fabregas. He isn't a striker/DM/RB/GK, but from the attitude on here, he's given everyone a lift.

For me the best thing about Sanchez is laughing at the Victims losing out on him even after they came '2nd'

Joel Campbell is going to be loaned out,

Manvuillo was meant to be Manquillo(RB from Atletico Madrid) and 1989 we have bought 2 players, one is a luxury player if we don't buy others and the other is a like for like replacement.

Nothing from our dealings so far fills me with anything but indifference as I know the only thing worth getting excited about this transfer window is Natalie's airbags being squeezed into a tight top come Aug 31st.
1) Sanchez is a striker and exactly what we need
2) Manquillo will NOT join us
3) Sanchez is most certainly not a 'luxury' player
4) Campbell being loaned out is not definitive
5) We're in mid July and we've signed two internationals (one of them world class) and haven't sold any of our top players, if you can't be optimistic now I can't help you

Sign any 1 of Martinez, schweinstiger, bender, Vidal or pogba and I will be ecstatic 8)

I keep coming back to the lack of aggressiveness in our transfer business - we buy players that the big clubs are trying to sell or we buy from the smaller clubs like Southampton, but haven't got the balls to wave a big wedge of money to a big club to try and entice them to sell a player that they didn't intend to sell  I absolutely believe that bayern would sell one of the 2 players I listed and juve will sell one of their midfielders IF we step up like the big club we are and make a real push to get them. Leverkusen might well be in champs league but they are an average size club who wouldn't turn down big money if it were put on the table for bender. We are in a position of real strength right now but yet we are supposed to be happy if we sign schnederlein ? The DM position is the one spot we should be willing to throw big money at and Martinez at £35m would be a better buy than schnederlein at £18m and that is a quality based decision and not a khedira is a big name type of decision

1989 I would suggest to you that the reason we haven't sold our top players again this summer, is because outside of our club they ain't viewed as top quality (except ozil whose form last season was very average). When we had Cesc and rvp there were top clubs lining up to sign them but that ship has sailed and holding onto our players now isn't as hard as it used to be so isn't the real coup you make it out to be

Finally, on the subject of my being tagged as a miserable b*stard, can I just say that it may be true but I was one of the few on here in the last few days that hasn't complained about the debouchy signing - I cannot believe how many complained about him being too old (in the 28/29 year old bracket) when for the last few years people have complained about buying too young  Make your mind up people......you either want le cock to sign (and base our ambitions) on more young unproven players, or you want him to buy more experienced players to blend in with the younger players

why does it matter if we buy players that big clubs are trying to sell if they can benefit us?

prefer try to buy players that big clubs are not willing to sell even if they cant improve our squad?

where is the logic?

Ramsey is a top player and is viewed as such by other teams, too.

Also, Fabregas and Van Persie were our only top players back then - that's only two - we have three now in Ozil, Ramsey, and Sanchez.

I don't know why you claim "holding on to our players isn't as hard as it used to be" when you just acknowledged we only had two top players to hold on to - you make it sound like teams were clamoring to sign our whole squad.

No you are not, I've been thinking for ages that Verm would be highly effective as a screen in from of the back 4. We seem to waste Jack in that position and Arteta is over the hill now. Many years ago when we played 442, Keown was tried as a CM, and did pretty well. Verm is a much more accomplished footballer who easily slot into this position.

TBH we cant afford to lose a CB in this window.

Very close to having a squad that can mount a serious title challenge. We need theo and the ox to give us a full season mind.

Errm... Yikes!
Don't want the disruptive immature retard anywhere near my club....He can send his missus over though if he likes. :-P :-P :-P
I heard (from reliable source) the deal was pretty much done but fell through because he wants £180k a week.

Also Jenko to go out on loan, perhaps West Ham.

If that's true I hope we told him to get fu*ked - the audacity of the cu*t!

Let him rot in Milan along with that decaying club.

But Barcelona aren't putting all of their effort into dislodging Ramsey and City have stopped throwing money at our players in an attempt to unsettle them....

Even if you don't agree with Augie's point about perceptions of quality the reality is no clubs are going to to these lengths to unsettle our players any more.

If we sign any of them I think it would be amazing.

However, I don't see Bayern selling Schweinstiger now after he was influential in the World Cup. If they do it will cause major uproar. I can't see Martinez mainly because of wages. I don't think Juventus would be stupid enough to sell their stars, at least before the season starts. They just lost Conte and replaced him with Allegri, a man so popular #NoAllegri was trending WORLDWIDE upon the news of his appointment, I don't think they will be in a particular rush to dismantle their winning team further, at least for under 40 odd mill.

I think the only top class DM attainable is Bender but we bod last year and Leverkusen were reluctant to part with him then. I don't think Schnederlein is in the same bracket as the aforementioned but I still would be happy if we signed him.

1. Martinez is rumoured to be unsettled in bayern

2. Conte left juve because they are gonna sell one of their 2 midfield stars - it would make no sense whatsoever to allow a successful manager to walk out the door over this, and then backtrack on your decision and decide not to sell
