Official World Cup Thread

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Really?

That would change my opinion on who I want to win this game...is he on the bench?

Yeah, got him in my dream team. Pretty sure he lost me points today though.

Commentators mentioned "confirmed interest" in him from both Manc clubs though so no chance of us getting him I suspect. :( I'm sure I read he had a £10m buy-out clause that expired at the start of June. If so then if we were gonna go for him surely it would have been then, although I guess the same goes for other clubs too. He'd have been well worth £10m.

I know that it is relatively early days but this world cup is absolute shite at the moment  Even the attacking based teams like holland dont seem to be that committed to going forward hence the woeful shortage of goals :(

Well Australia certainly did their part for raising the goals-per-game average.

Most of the football’s been abysmal. Still reckon the ball’s playing it’s part in that, alongside the negative tactics etc. The wanky pundits keep talking about whether or not it swerves in the air (it doesn’t) but that’s not the issue with it. Every game I’ve seen so far there’s been about 5x as many overhit passes as you’d usually see & countless shots ballooned well over the bar. The ball bounces about a mile in the air & seems to speed up once it hits the turf, so any crossfield pass or ball into the channel just runs away from the player half the time.

Totally agree with you re the cross field passes - some of them may not be superstars but most of them are quality players and it is no coincidence that almost all cross field passes fly out over the far sideline :x It is absolutely ridiculous that fifa allow this fcuking about with match footballs every time a major tournament comes around - instead of this constant complaining about the constant buzzing from those horns the focus should be entirely on the match ball and after this tournament is over the competing nations and the media should join together to kick up an almighty fuss in a bid to prevent this bullshit being replicated in years time
