As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
what a night, from the moment jack challenged xavi in 2nd minute and came away with the ball, you just knew we were in for a special night. Only the 10 min spell when they bamboozled us did i get worried. Poor theo didn't know what to do. Koscielny was brilliant but jack was motm. Radio 5 live 606 seemed disappointed we lost. We can see this tie out. Brilliant, brilliant night. Thank you Arsene
Felt we competed well throughout though, aside from early and late surge, Barca had the edge. Our back 4, including Eboue and Clichy, defended well as individuals but offside trap was torn apart, partly due to our midfield failing to deal with runs. Rode our luck at times, Messi twice beating our keeper with disturbing ease (left on backside for chip then wrongfooted for effort into side netting) but missing, a goal that was perhaps wrongly ruled out for offside, penalty appeals that the ref waved away. Attacking wise, if Walcott's passing had been better or Van Persie's finishing more clinical, we might have scored in first half. Second half, I just didn't see where we were going to get a goal from so thank you Van Persie! Once we got that goal, we seemed to suddenly find a bit more in our game.
Great win, fantastic night, going to be difficult second leg but given ourselves a chance.
Jack and Kos were brilliant last night, to hold on in there against this team was something to behold, a couple of seasons ago we would have been spanked, although, I reckon we'll have to score at least 2 goals over there to progress, but I'm going to enjoy this moment.
Great performance form all even Eboue played well despite that loose pass.
If we have the same players available and they show the same attitude, then maybe just maybe it will be enough to get us through.
Even I will try to stay upbeat for the second leg.
Watched the paper review on SSN this morning with some bloke from the Express. To say his view was slightly underwellming would be an understatement, moaning that there were only two English players on the pitch. Saying Wilshere was great but then pointing out he made so many less passes than the Barcelona players. Seemed to give very little credit to Arsenal...ho hum what do I expect from the English media!!!!!!!!!!!!

Listened to BBC 5 live after the game and they were praising us to the hilt so I think you must have been unlucky at your choice of media. If you get a chance then listen to Alan Green's commentary on the second goal......brilliant stuff from him and from the crowd in the background. And I text in and they read it out...which doesn't happen often.
So many teams have been praised in the past for doing to us what we did to Barca last night that I really don't think anyone has a leg to stand on for not giving Arsenal due praise. And in fairness, all the reports I've heard did give us praise.
And how many times have we dominated possession, took the piss when we were 1-0 up "ole, ole"!), not got the second and then been rocked back by an equaliser and gone on to draw or lost the game. The biggest thing that last night showed was that Barca are beatable. Everyone is saying, "but wait for the Nou Camp", it's only half time etc. But if we get a goal (and even the makeshift team we put out last year managed that!) then we've wiped out their away goal and they need 3 to beat us.....

Heard that at work this morning, ab brilliant, Greene is a bit of a wanker with his opinions, but he is the undisputed king of match commentary in britain.

anyone know where I can listen to this? iPlayer doesn't let you relisten to match commentary from what I can tell...
Isn’t it fantastic when the heart wins out? Victoria concordia crescit.
I guess my overall takeaway point would be that tonight was a vision of what we can be. Maybe we’re not there yet, and it won’t always be this good, of course. But all the problems Arsenal have had faded away last night, and for one perfect evening, everything fell into place, and Arsenal FC were the club we want it to be and what it is at our very best. Great atmosphere at the ground? Usually not, but it was tonight (see video below). Shaky goalkeeper? We’ve had that in the past, but Wojo is excellent and getting better, and had a good night. Blowing a late lead? It’s our bugaboo, but yesterday we’re the ones who came from behind and took the match. Mental weakness? Nope — we were absolutely fearless. I think we saw a glimpse of all of Wenger’s promises coming to fruition. Wenger steered us through a very tough financial period when we moved into the Emirates, and while we haven’t won any trophies there yet, we haven’t dropped out of the top 4, and have gone from one of England’s bigger sides to one of the biggest sides in all of Europe. You’ve heard me say it before, and I will say it again — Wenger has never gotten, and probably will never get, enough credit for what he’s done the last 6 years. That some fans actually have called for his job boggles my mind.

Radio 1 might still play it on their next news bulletin
