I wouldn't be so cocky mate. It's only matter of time before it kicks of in States. You guys are bankrupt, basically.

Funny how everyone is concentrating on riots, while economies worldwide are collapsing as we type.

And of course, there will be no cuts for police force after this, in fact, bugdet actually might increase. This is all very political and it will be become clear in days to come.
I was wondering last night how long it would take for the conspiracy theorist out there to try and get this particular one on the go.
You didn't have to wait long.

Response by police had been pathetic, to say the least. I've watched them last night outside huge police station in Hackney, they looked like headless chickens. Is it just sheer incompentance or is it something else remains to be seen.

This dont help

Just one note of defence for our beleaguered police force which has come in for some severe criticism.

My friend is a police constable in Southall nick and he was told that he had to fill in three pieces of paper before he was allowed to man the streets last night...he said that paperwork has killed the response of police to many areas. The riot squad had to fill in disclaimers stating that should they be injured their insurance policy will not guarantee full payment!!!!

I would not want to be a police officer for all the tea in china.

Agreed, dont get me wrong there are a minority who can be right arseholes and they probably taint the general view of police to the rest of the public, but at the end of the day they show a huge amount of self control and work in difficult circumstances so I can't really knock them.

Same for the ambulance and fire services. They make the best of what they have, which isn't very much at the moment, and they're tangled in miles of red tape unfortunately which often prevents them doing what I'm sure they also want to be doing - proper policing on the streets.

I live about two miles from that Reeves Corner you saw up in flames last nite and I can tell the poster who said it's only poverty-striken areas affected you aint got a clue.

We could see the smoke and flames from our front room and for the first time in my life I felt vunerable living in England. Reeves Corner is full of little family run shops and that woman you saw jumping from her flat is a regular in our local.

These people have lost everything and insurance is non-existant due to it being 'civil unrest'

It is total devastion around there today and very very sad.

But the thing sends a shiver down my spine is that my 13 and 14yr olds were telling me all day yesterday that there'd be riots in Croydon last nite, it was all over twitter and facebook apparently.

So two young teenagers knew about it but the police/authorities were completely unprepared. How on earth is that possible in England in 2011 ?

Have i got to arm myself to protect my family? Because one thing's for sure, the police can't.

Of course David Cameron has never said "hug a hoodie" - but don't let that get in the way of a good story.

The first clip has left me gobsmacked. The depths that people have stooped is astonishing. Complete oxygen theives.
As for the other clip, fair play to the bloke at the start. good on him.

Seriously, you think I have a PC agenda?
Or label anyone who writes about race as a racist?
(Perhaps I just grew up mixing with different people from the majority on here? Because it does seem to very much a White English/White Irish Forum, but that is a different thread entirely.)

But getting back to the point.

I agreed with Olgit that in North London, Somalian youths cause problems. Though I do not have statistics to hand about that, I have seen it with my own eyes.
But I point out why it might be that they cause problems.

And as I pointed out in a previous post, there were lootings in Woolwich, Romford and Southall.
Not places I would call Black areas.

I have seen many photos and lots of footage of the lootings and there were all people involved, Black, White, South Asian etc.

And to be honest, London has a 20 - 25% ethnic population, so by default there are likely to be Black kids taking part.

Pictures on telly of looters and rioters in Manchester. Almost all of them white kids.

Any explanation? Lads?
