Re: Gone for a Song?
Happy that Song has gone - he was lazy and unmotivated. I think it's easy to see him as a good player if all you ever watch is MOTD. I went to most home games last season and I was shocked by how bad he was. Good riddance, not that the money will be spent on anyone though

Having undergone a medical on Monday, the Cameroon international has been unveiled as a £15 million signing at Barcelona.
Song’s departure has been accompanied by reports he was repeatedly late for training, was lazy and lacked discipline.
However this has provoked an angry reaction from the player, who hotly denied the suggestions. “Alex Song was massively committed to Arsenal, he loved the club and was dying to sign a new contract,” a source close to Song told Telegraph Sport.
“We tried six times to renegotiate his contract. They kept saying it has three years to run.
"They’d say things like ‘we’ll sit down in September, October,’ when at first they’d said it would happen in the summer.
Then Barcelona came in and yet Alex still said he wanted a new contract. When they said we’d all sit down on 1 September that was the final straw.
“That shows disrespect to the player. Barcelona is a once-in-a-lifetime thing; you have to jump on that train when it comes.”
The reports about Song’s attitude were unusual. He is only the latest to tread the path from north London to Catalonia following Marc Overmars, Emmanuel Petit, Alex Hleb and Cesc Fábregas last season, yet none other has been accompanied by negative articles.
Not even Samir Nasri, a pariah among Arsenal fans following his turbulent transfer to Manchester City last summer, was subjected to disparagement through the press about his attitude.
This led the Song camp to allege the Arsenal hierarchy had deliberately conducted the briefing to deflect attention from what was an unexpected departure.
“They’re covering themselves because they’re being killed by the fans,” claimed the source. “I know it’s [a senior Arsenal executive] covering his a***.”
But Song at least has the succour of an improved pay packet. He has reportedly signed a £70,000-a-week deal at the Camp Nou, which is an improvement on what the source claimed were his terms at the Emirates Stadium.
“He was one of the worst paid at the club,” said the source. “He was on about £55,000 a week and his performances deserved a pay rise. He became dissatisfied and upset. You can work out what’s going on there — the same’s happened with Robin van Persie and Samir Nasri.”
Alex Song and his agant both declined to comment.

Interesting, if true, but I still can't stand him, I don't wish him any luck at all, I remember how he came on as a sub against Cologne, with his shorts hitched up like a total prick, he also stunk the game out... good riddance..

Re: Gone for a Song?
Song: Simply one of the worst Arsenal players in the Wenger era. Didn't know/Couldn't do his job & didn't seem to care either.
I could put up with someone skilful like say, Berbatov or Le Tissier (for example), strolling around the pitch, but not this bloke.

Re: Gone for a Song?
he was lazy during games, let alone training.
i'd guess that AW thought they could train that laziness out of him.
he had an eye for a nice pass, it was the rest of his game that was shite. i lost count of times he'd give away the ball or a bad foul and he'd just amble back picking or wiping his nose.
other players like TV5 shout, curse and show anger when they eff up. Song was just not bothered imho.
no way was he worth 70k a week. the club actually did the right thing for a change and sold him on rather than pay up.
are you watching theo ?

I hope this heralds a new-found ruthlessness on Arsene Wenger's part.

Re: Gone for a Song?
FINALLY!!!
FUCKING FINALLY!!!
Slow, lazy, unintelligent, turning circle of an oil tanker, pace of a retarded snail, passing "ability" of LegoHead Denilson, tackling "skills" of Paul Scholes... I could be talking about FrankSav (
) but, alas, I refer to Alex "Billabong" Song of the incresingly stupid hair!
I am so happy to see the back of this lazy waster I can barely contain myself!

Re: Gone for a Song?

I keep reading "£15 million" and thinking, “Jeez, we got off light there. I’d have given them £20 million tbh.”

Re: Gone for a Song?
None of the allegations being made against the club, board or wenger, whichever you choose, would surprise me in the slightest.
Strange how despite the accusations being made against Song, he was a first team regular all last season and if true why was he never disciplined.
It seems to me that the hypocrites on this forum are willing to take the side of the board simply because they don't like the player.
And do you honestly think that someone at Barca, will not have asked Cesc for a character assessment of Song and if it was apparent that he was ill disciplined and always late for training, that barca would have pursued this signing.
I can accept someone having their opinion on Song as a player and wanting him gone, but it looks to me like he has been treated apallingly by a club run by a bunch of fucking amateurs.
If this is how they do behave is it any wonder we keep losing players and failing in the transfer market, when we do actually try to sign quality (mata being an example)

I was glad we sold Song because i didnt rate him as a player. But i agree with everything else you say sid. I will not praise Wenger for getting rid of him because Wenger picked him as a regular starter for the last 4 years and would have continued to pick him if he stayed. Its amazing that some of our fans think that Barcelona would buy a player whose attitude was supposed to have stank without asking Cesc a player who played with him for 3 years
Yes sell Song and move on but dont stab him in the back when he leaves the club. For some of our fans to believe what that

You can say you are glad Song has been sold but dont give any credit to Wenger and the Board
Dont worry though we still have those injury prone

Your post confuses me a bit. Song was under contract - It's up to the club what they decide to do with him.goonersid wrote:None of the allegations being made against the club, board or wenger, whichever you choose, would surprise me in the slightest.

Absolutely 100% agree with this and GoonerSid.donaldo wrote:goonersid wrote:None of the allegations being made against the club, board or wenger, whichever you choose, would surprise me in the slightest.

Dont worry though we still have those injury proneDiaby and Rosicknote picking up £60k a week at the club
Now don't get me wrong I think Song is a c*** and he is a ponderous, useless, slow, asinine muppet an he had no business at a club like Arsenal.
What makes me laugh though AGAIN, is how the AKBs are using this as some kind of excuse to praise Lord Arsene. Sooo...
1. If Song is such a bad apple why on earth did he play every single game whenever fit? Could you see Fergie picking someone with that type of attitude?
2. If Song is as useless as everyone is claiming (I used to get stick for slatig Song from AKBs) then why was he voted Arsenal's second best player last season?

3. As mentioned by Sid and Donaldo. Barcelona is a serious club, a club that has demanding fans and culture of winning trophies. It isn't a finishing school for dilettante ballerinas like Colney Creche. So Barca are no amateurs - sure they make the odd dud signing but they would defo have consulted his former captain, Cesc, before signing him.
4. The club has previous form for doing this classless type of thing. After Adebayor was sold - remember, the club lobbed him out - a story was mysteriously 'leaked' that Adebayor had stolen boots from the Arsenal dressing room. It bwas placed in about 4 papaers. I thought that was fucking disgusting and slimy of the club and just goes to show the lengths to whichthe board and Wenger woul stoop to justify their greed and avarice: Adebayor in fact had permission to take the boots as he was giving them to a charity in Togo.
The stories soon 'disappeared' from the papers.
Song is a lazy useless twat and I am glad he is gone.
But as ever, the AKBs will use any event and spin it as Lord Wenger being the man. So huilariously, we are now being told that selling the likes of Cesc, RVP, Nasri...is 'Arsene breaking up a losing team'.
Oh. Funny that because surely I'd have thought those would be the first players you keep, and that the Diabs, Denilsons, Chamakhs, Gervinhos and Santos etc would be the first c*** out the door.

Re: Gone for a Song?
Baba, sid, Don - are any of you REALLY surprised that some AKB's are selling these sales as a series of Arsene masterstrokes?
These people (whilst entitled to their opinion) will NEVER admit Arsene has got it wrong. About anything. Ever.

Re: Gone for a Song?
Am delighted he is gone.
To me he epitomised what has gone wrong at The Arsenal and and glad Wenger sold him. Hopefully it shows a shift change in his thinking.

Re: Gone for a Song?
Baba rejoice in the FACT
that Song has gone there is no need to turn this into another anti Wenger thread. I know Sid and then Donaldo has done it but Sid is a Song fan (you called even say fanatic
) so i can imagine this is how he sees it but you hate Song so rejoice with the rest of us
(obviously not Sid though)
