The only thing missing yesterday was a lazy midfielder giving the ball away when under no pressure, and conceding needless free kicks in dangerous positions.

Oh yeah, coz we sold him to Barcelona for £15m

Exactly - if anyone needed evidence of how to play that role responsibly and sensibly they need look no further than Arteta. A superior player in every aspect to that one-paced showpony we flogged to the Barcawhores.

His movement is excellent, Podolski scored because he took two defenders away from the ball. Needs a goal, but im really positive about him, you can tell if players have something about them by what they do off the ball - he woeks, he moves, puts pressure on the defence - defends from the front. Proper impressed - need a goal, but the service in the air was pretty poor for him yesterday and i feel thats an area he excels in.
I agree.

I like him, he knows when to show for the ball and when to make a run unlike the camel. I just hope he gets shown some patience and support and doesn't fall victim to the talksport breed of football fan that's expecting him to be like RvP straight away.
I thought he had a better game at Stoke to be honest where the quality of the service was far far worse and he worked pretty tirelessly.

The disappointment yesterday was when he did get goalside particularly near the end when he won the tangle with the defender and had an opportunity to go 1-on-1 and get a shot in......but he checked back and the chance was gone. I pray that he doesn't turn out to be a Chamakh

To be fair I don't think that he checked back as such but was out on his feet - he ran his nuts off yesterday and won flick ons galore but nobody read them or was close enough to him to make use of them. As fans (ESP one that champions GG) it is great to see the team more compact and harder to break down but the flip side is that we have a lone striker expected to do all the work by himself. He missed a great chance again yesterday but he has the intelligence to know where to run and I still believe that the goals will come for him 8)

Did you enjoy the Abou masterclass too mate ?? Or are you still in the "it was only Liverpool/Villa/Liege/Fulham/Fenerbahce/Derby/Stoke" group of denial :barscarf:

The only thing I thought giroud did wrong yesterday (apart from missing the good headed chance and shouldering the ball) was when put clean through by diaby (who was immense) he was heading accross the box so getting his foot around the ball was always going to be difficult so the better option would have been to slide it to gibbs who had made a great run and was better positioned to hit it accross the keeper.

What I chuckled at was gibbs' reaction, while giroud was on his knees rueing his missed chance gibbs jumps in the air, throws a wobbly having a few words with giroud then pushes him while the man is still on his knees and calls him something that probably included, barn door, elephant and c.unt

But yes his movement is very good.

Watched it again and my view (same as at the time) was that gibbs was too far wide to really trouble the keeper. But then again this is Reina we're talking about... As you were :barscarf:

Three clean sheets with three of our regular back four out is a pretty solid start.

Kos is on his way back, hopefully in time for the citeh game.

Diaby going on international duty after one full game in twelve months is ridiculous. The kid is not so bright, risking his whole career like that. Hopefully it's just to take part in training and warm the bench.

He wasn't too wide but more omportantly only about 7 yards from goal, it would have given reina no chance to plant his feet and be ready, or he could have passed to gibbs, moved inside his marker and maybe taken a pass back from gibbs with a tap in into an empty net.

My only negatives on this game was the obvious frailty of Vito Mannone behind the sticks and the now very obvious fact that Nicholas Bendtner is a lot better than Giroud but has been loaned out not sold so we could use funds for shoring up the defense leaving only the hapless Chamakh as cover !

On the whole I thought we did very well against some lively play by sterling and some diving from the negrito baiter !

Herd, how can you judge SuperBendy as better than Geroud??! Bendy has had years to demonstrate how very average he is at PL level. Geroud has had 3 games, mate! Give the man a chance!

Simple DB ,Bendy never was never given an extended run as the lone up front man ,and like him or lump him he can score ,his record for Denmark speaks for himself.
He could also hold the ball up well, but thats just my opinion .

I'm very happy to wait for Giroud to come good but just remember Chamakh is the back up for Giroud and he is IMO pretty shit and not fit to lick the Bendy boots !

Since we haven't SOLD Bendy for any coin I think its shortsighted to out him for a year !
