is there anything that sums up the current state of this club more than bringing on flamini, and his first contribution is to give away a penalty?

How long before we hear how we will "learn" from this year?

Shame really as for 70 minutes we put in a great shift, were pretty well-organised and rode our luck much less than in the past. And then chucked it away with naive and suicidal defending.
Agreed. This is how we should be defending without the ball against every team. Except that Wenger won't. The arrogance begins with him.

Good workout and send the reserves for the 2nd leg.

Hopefully we can now concentrate on qualifying for the CL 2016/2017. :-P

It's astounding because you watch a game like that and think had we gone out and for 90 minutes played in the usual careless "be yourself" manner we would have got bumholed. Likewise the previous 2 home games against them.

Wenger obviously feels that unlike countless other teams who are capable of picking us off, Barcelona are actually worthy of his respect and we make some adjustments to our gameplan accordingly.

Another 90 CL minutes I've thankfully managed to completely avoid - a predictable 2 goal defeat. Cue now the collapse and risking everything in a pointless second leg rather than focusing on the proper cup

Flamini is just like Arteta - they offer nothing but a presence on the field. Heard a good tweet about Wenger hoarding players, and not getting rid when they turn to rubbish.

Its his own Fing fault.

And the 'good performance' line can no longer work. Sure the players did well, but so long as we celebrate good performances in defeat, we will forever be a team than wins simply by trying. Like that little kid no one takes seriously - he has a go and you say 'atta boy' and 'good on ya mate' - even when that kid is rubbish, but you celebrate the effort.

Although Wenger hasnt yet states we are 'getting closer' to Barcelona, as I dont think he is that delusional to believe we are near them.

That's the part that pisses me off most (and probably most on here) is that we are capable of putting together a game plan defensively. Why he doesn't do it in every match is something that will puzzle me. With those type of tactics (and they are tactics), we'd may have picked up a few more pots along the years. Maybe not the CL Cup, but possibly another Prem title.

All I asked for from tonight's performance was a bit of bravery and courage........and I think that we got that 8)

Of course it comes down to quality and that is what killed us, but looking at that overall I would have to say that for the most part we kept messi and neymar quiet :o The problem with players like that is that they really only need one chance and they punish you and that is exactly what happened tonight.

So far I have seen comments slating a lot of our team for their first goal (and with some justification tbf), but I am staggered that coquelin has escaped criticism  He is our DM and he just jogged back at his ease when they were breaking through - it reminded me very much of denilson's pathetic jog back against manure in the same competition a few years ago   He had begun to push further forward in the ten minutes prior to their goal, but I have to say that I felt that ramsey worked harder defensively tonight than coquelin

It is very hard to summarise tonights performance without putting giroud under the spotlight - with all the will in the world, this guy is never going to be any better than average  Many of you will be well aware of my opinions of wellbeck (I used to call him wellshit but it used to upset some of our sensitive souls  ), but tonight he showed the difference it makes when your lone striker is mobile and pacy. Giroud is an old fashioned English centre forward and if we cant get a better striker than him to play for us, then this club will never be any better than second rate :x
What can you say about the other two subs ? Wally is utter, utter dogshite and my deceased grandmothers are closer to be a top class footballer than this crunt is  As for the mercenary French w.anker....... Please tell me that elneny is cup tied cos if he isn't good enough to make the squad ahead of the cu.nt then he must be total dogshite
