The Summer 2014 TRANSFER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Rodgers is a better manager than Wonga tactically.

Peas.
Yet he couldn't close out a game when the league title was in his hand and collapsed to Palace. That makes him a tw*t,just like

In all seriousness,we are running out of strikers,Remy wouldn't have improved us and would just have been another body on high wages. But the strikers left as far as I can see are

Jackson Martinez( too expensive for just a slight cut above Remy). Looked bang average in a class Colombia team.
Balotelli a genius when his head is screwed on, a f**king liability when it isn't. At the Arsenal he would become an absolute hero if he started banging them in and if Mario is loved and with service from Rambo/Ozil/Cazorla/Sanchez/Walcott,this is a potential 25-30 goal a season player but at £20million+ transfer fee and high wages,he is a huge risk.

Higgy is available at an extortionate price and high wages not that big a risk,he is class despite the WC final but the fee would be £40m plus and over £100k wages,I'd consider it.As a final alternative on Aug 31st.

Chicharito, a steal possibly if we could deal whilst flogging TV5. He used to be deadly in the box and was Mexico's main talisman for a while but needed games and his confidence is shot. A risk but a cheap risk. Other downside is,we'd have to start looking for a new CB.

Lukaku, very good Giroud alternative option but his first touch is awful, looked sh*te at the WC when he had to make the step up and Maureen would rather nosh AW off than sell us a player.

Griezmann low risk, takes Poldi's place seamlessly, wages are low,his age is perfect, even transfer fee 25-30million at a push is more than doable. Massive downside, those c**ts at Madrid have earmarked him to take Morata's place. And for that reason among many others Platini and Ffp can go and f**k themselves.

Last and bizarrely almost completely forgotten option is a free one. Step forward Joel Campbell.
He can play on his own,can play out wide and can play as a two pronged attack. It would border on criminal to not give him a chance here.

If I was holding the purse strings,I'd bin off Yaya on loan to a Villa/Spammers/twitchy on loan so we find out if the postman can 'deliver' finally. Then buy Griezmann and bring Campbell back. That would be depth, guile, and goals. That attack would make the victims SaS from last season look more like Dad's army.

Di Marzio. I don't know where this guy gets his info from but he's called damn near all the big transfers this summer on his tw*tter page and he's got it right.

Going to be keeping a close eye on him even though on the whole I distrust tw*tter.

Di Marzio is claiming Borini doesn't fancy another relegation battle and has turned down the move even though a fee has been agreed.

Wonder where they'll find another mug to pay £14m for an average striker. Twitchy that's your cue

He probably sacked off Remy so he could give Campbell his chance, he looked decent in the WC and as you say can play across the front 3, is Remy really so much better than him? Campbell will be a sub, Remy would be an 80k a week sub so you can see why he may have swerved him.

Seriously would any other PL side take Sanogo and loan (and play him)?

The very top strikers are well known and probably financially unattainable (Falcao, Cavani, etc), but I'm intrigued by how the names of now, top strikers (the above two plus the likes of Lewandowski, Suarez etc) were well known but went to intermediary clubs for low fees before securing moves to big clubs.

What happened? Did the Citeh, manure, chavs scouts look at them and decide they weren't up to it, or just never bother to watch them?

The only top quality forward avaible is, imo, Balotelli. Hope over expectation would want us to be lucky and get a slightly more mature person, but it's a big risk.

I'd never heard of Origi, but he looked a good prospect, though I think we need a proven player.

Catch 22.

I'm less concerned about strikers than I am about the DM position - IMHO we need a world class bod alongside Rambo, AND a prospect to cover for both.

What happens when Rambo gets injured or burns out ? We saw last season - tets + jack gave us no offensive power and little protection for the back four.

Betting on Diaby to return to fitness and jack to return to form AND play in a role he doesn't like is a fools errand IMHO.

Dirty's goals are going to win us more games, but the lack of depth in the middle is going to lose us some too, and Wonga will likely blame injuries again...

In the case of Lewandowski he was spotted by Big Sam but unfortunately the Blackburn board wouldn't stump up the money to Legia Warsaw. Allegedly

I like chicarito and would class him as a real old school poacher, BUT he is another short arse striker where we need a striker with a bit of size and pace to their game. I know reus would be your traditional target man striker but his pace, movement and shooting ability would be excellent alongside sanchez 8) The man is meant to have a reasonable buy out clause so why are we not testing him and Dortmund out ? The answer is that le cock see's Giroud as his no.1 centre forward and that he has Campbell to back him up so we will NOT buy another striker and will pay the price as a result.
