There are many issues from last night's capitulation but one that is bugging the fuck out of me is Wenger's substitution of Nasri. With both Cesc and Nasri on we had them mostly on the back foot because they were terrified of getting hit quick on the break with our passing game. The minute Wenger took Nasri off they stepped up and our ball retention went to almost zero. He invited them onto us. The guy hasn’t got a clue about tactics.

After witnessing the disgraceful 2nd half I really have had enough. That with the fights outside and the humiliation of them singing 3.1 and you fucked it up really does put the final nail in the coffin for me.
Wenger you’re a fucking clown and I don’t recognise you anymore. All this man does is humiliate us and make us a joke.

I think tactical substitutions should be just that. Tactical. They should be to strengthen or improve what we already had out there.
Wilshere coming on from Diaby was fine. Thought he should have started.
But what difference did Bendtner and Arshavin make? They hardly touched the ball and we played worse after they came on. If it was tactical then not sure what he was trying to achieve.....
I look around at other clubs - even Spuds - and I see Managers with strong support alongisde them. Support that can do post match interviews. Scrap with opposition players. Support that can advise and maybe change the view of the Manager. Does Wenger get this from Pat Rice? I'm sure Pat is fine for getting the cones out and running the players through their drills....but does Wenger listen to him? Does Rice have an opinion? Anyway, just wondered whether that is one of the reasons why Wenger sometimes looks so isolated and alone on the touchline....

I thought the same. Plus he taking off Theo for Billy & Nas for Arsh, drastically took our pace and energy away.DB10GOONER wrote:There are many issues from last night's capitulation but one that is bugging the fuck out of me is Wenger's substitution of Nasri. Incidentally anyone see Billy's first action?
He tried to give an option to receive the ball from a throw-in. However, totally unchallenged and simply running into space......he fell over!

Absolutely. There were some back in 2006 who feared this was going to happen this way and that this would be the result, and we were branded moppets, doomers, plastics, knitters, trolls, WUMs, JCLs. Everyone thought salvaging fourth on the final day and just coming up short in Paris was proof we were dead wrong. The truth is it was single greatest false dawn in our history and fake sun plced before us while the real sun continued to set without interruption on the gratest era at Arsenal of our lives really in terms of both quality football and honours achieved.MK Gould wrote: Where we have gone wrong is allowing virtually the whole of the great invincible team to mature then leave, retire etc at the same time. Growth should be organic, replacing 1-2 key positions each season. Not starting afresh as we did. The fact that we have continued to qualify for the CL in that time is astonishing. The fact that the club allowed it to happen though is a disgrace.
Had we snuck fourth but not gone to Paris I think a lot of Gooners would have seen a lot of this a lot sooner maybe.
I agree but only if the squad pl;ayers include a Grimandi-type who can be a good enough fill-in both in central mdifield and central defence, and a Wiltord type with enough pace to play out wide ot up front through the middle but is better out wide than Walcott(who should be pushed into the middle full-time for me of a 4-4-2. Otherwise Neil Ashton might be right about how many players we need to buy.MK Gould wrote: But now? I would agree that we need 5-6 new players (some financed by a clear out of dead wood). I think we are probably short in only 2 key positions (albeit that might cost us £40-£60m) and maybe need to strengthen the squad with 2 or 3 older heads as back up (dependent on who goes in the summer). That's probably a better position than most. I'm actually looking forward to next season with more optimism than has been the case since we moved to the Grove. I think it's a joke when people say we need 8-9 new players.....

Re: ....
I love Sami but if he left, much like Ade (wanted to), Hleb and flamini in 08, I'd think "if you're so great why have you done nothing in the second half of the season when we really needed you?"TeeCee wrote:Rigsby - you could be right about Nas, he looked well pissed off. If he doesn't look like signing a new contract, we have to sell him but we won't get that much as he only has a year to go.
No it isn't. If an alien asked you what football was, would you say:Peeman wrote:Its more than a game - not more than life or death - but it is more than a gameantgel wrote:I have been thinking this as well. I love Arsenal with all my heart, but it can only ever be a game...).BT wrote:Aside from everything else, Wenger does not look well. For the sake of your own health, Arsene, change shit up!
For this reason, I actually predict his shock resignation post-season unless we win the league.I don't see why he'd want to put himself through more stress, he had a go, won some, lost some, and would have to be mental to keep coming back for more.
1) A sport / game
2) More than a game.

Tennis is a game. Hockey is a game. Homo-erotic rubbing (or rugby) is a game. Football is more than a game. Always has been. Always will be.
For some people it is indeed more than a game - for you and some others it is not and thats fair enough.DB10GOONER wrote:Bollocks. It's more than a game.antgel wrote:No it isn't. This is why some go crazy at what is happening at our club because for me it is definitely more than a game.
