The Summer 2014 TRANSFER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Seen that this morning too - a mistake of monumental proportions imo UNLESS he changes his formation

Here we go again! He was doing so well until this announcement. When will he learn?

Without a defensive midfielder we'll come up short. Seems Sanchez was a Puma move ..

Players who are or can play CF:
Giroud
Alexis
Walcott
Podolski
Campbell
Sanogo

Not awful but I still think we need one more - preferably one good enough to drop Giroud to the bench and play alongside side Alexis.

I think we may change formation though, have two up front.

I agree with Wenger; Alexis is enough. Don't forget Campbell is coming back too. He just tweeted that he's flying to London for pre season.

Not possible as Alexis is sponsored by Nike.

We should have known.......he's been a stubborn, arrogant, tightwad *word censored* for NINE Seasons now, why should he suddenly 'see the light' (and good sense) and change his ways now - mind you those Nine Seasons have brought us ONE Feckin' trophy....

Unless I'm mistaken but Alexis played as a striker for Udinese and does for Chile. He was pushed out wide for Barca as Messi/Villa were used more centrally.

Your good self, Me, The World AND His Dog "Know" beyond any shadow of a doubt that we NEED a Proven DMF and a Proven Striker.

You say 'chill out', I will do so WHEN he does his job properly - He looks around him without his rosetinted spectacles and see how all the other teams are improving by buying more than One decent player.

He earns £8mil+ a year...he has a 'war chest' of £100million available and he intends to not buy another striker or a DMF, but to make do with the likes of Sanogo, what on earth is wrong with the man?

I am fed up with always having to wait for wenger to do something, he is Obstinate and unwilling to listen to reason or the advice of those around him - some of whom know better, his idea of tactics is to 'score more goals that the opposition', why? did he bother bringing in Steve Bould, who is someone with oodles of experience in the art of defending, if he isn't going to allow him free reign?

Sanchez is One Amazing player/signing, but he alone isn't going to make the difference between last seasons out come and the season/s ahead.

Well OBG the way I look at it is we have 4 strikers (5 if you wanna include Feo):

Sánchez
Giroud
Campbell
Podolski

I don't count Sanogo who should be loaned out or fucked off altogether.

That is enough for me.

Let's see, Wengs so far has signed Alexis, Debuchy, Ospina and bringing Campbell back from loan. If you told me in May this is how our transfer window will pan out in mid July I would of been over the moon. A DM is coming (without sounding like SteveO :D ), wait and see.

Pussy.

are you really so thick to not see beyond the smoke and mirrors strategy at Arsenal?

yes we have bought Alexis who may be a good signing (but he is still not the out and out striker that we ideally require)
Debuchy has come into replace Sagna ( so NO net gain there)
Ospina will come in to replace Fabianski ( so NO net gain there)
Campbell potentially looks good but it is not certain that he will make it in the PL just because he looked ok playing for Costa Rica

I have been waiting for a decent DM to come in since we moved to the Emirates. I am still waiting...
