On a serious note, the buffoonery that has gone on is absolutely shameful and that is from both sides, as for Ireland re border

well that is a Red Herring thrown in by Barnier and his cronies, there will be no border but Leo ought to stop being a pawn and he should tell them where to go, being neighbours I think we know where our bread is buttered and we do not need to be scalded by European dictators...
Remember the European Economic Community did its job after years of war in Europe and produced stability within the 9 member states, unfortunately it has become an uncontrollable beast...

Absolutely 100% wrong. I've posted on this before but I can guarantee you if (if) Brexit goes ahead there 100% will be a hard border between Ireland and NI. Our government is quietly but actively planning for it.

Yep it will go ahead and we will have to split the Welsh Sea and airspace up, did you see that unearthed massive stone sign that stated EIRE as they did not want to be bombed in WW2?

@DB10, even if the Irish government is planning for it surely the population wont stand for it on either side of the border, once a queue develops on day one it will surely all kick off. By day 3 it will stop I suspect.
Isnt there a very long history of ignoring the border when it suits ? The thought of a mad Gibraltar type border queue simply wont wash when the border is so much larger. The amount of border crossing commuting is pretty large these days, let alone trans border shopping and trade generally isnt it?

My biggest fear about Brexit was and is the possible return to the troubles .
Whilst Irelands problems amongst it's people have never been solved ,the bloodbath has at least ceased for a time .
I would hate it if it returned ,it would make postcode wars seem like playground spats !

Forget the unelected Varadker, he'll be gone within a year or two. First election he's gone. He has a weaker mandate than May.
The problem is whilst both the UK and Irish governments don't want a hard border, if there is a full Brexit the EU will demand a hard border. Trade and security concerns dictate that.
The Irish government will do whatever the EU tells them, the current UK government won't fight too hard either because they are shored up by the DUP psychopaths who would like a hard border as it will reaffirm their "Britishness". Bizarrely the Republicans here are quietly thrilled by the idea of a hard border as they look on it as an opportunity to try swing the Nationalist moderates and fence sitters towards a united Ireland.
The alternative is a partial Brexit where NI are treated differently to the rest of the UK and remain within some of the EU mechanisms. Again the DUP who shore up your government won't stand for that. Neither will many EU power brokers that now have a real hump with the UK for having the cheek to want to leave. Yes a certain level of petty dislike and xenophobia are involved here.
The third option is a technology based soft border but things like cost, GDPR, free travel rights, and the technology required being a few years away, will affect that option negatively.
Conversely the "easiest" option if the UK do go full Brexit is a hard border.
Again though many senior government people here are quietly predicting there will be no full Brexit. But how accurate that last bit is at this stage is anyone's guess.

The Irish government could give 2 fucks about what the people think. Border shopping is not as big as it was and most trade will be by train and or express truck lanes at border checkpoints. You have to remember both sides ran a reasonably smooth border for decades, they know how to do it.
As someone that spent a couple of years driving over that border for work at the height of the Troubles one thing you notice is that most people just queue and shut the fuck up. Most people are sheep.
No one wants a hard border back but if you go full Brexit there will be one mark my words.

the Irish border issue is just an example of how "project fear" will actually happen.
countless others, but all totally dismissed by Brexiteers
what I do find funny though is that they still have no answer to any of these issues

Can't help but suspect that there is more than a little hint of manipulation in this. It's an exact paralell to the city reaction following the referendum result . Carney says it's bad just like last time best drop the pound's value , Make it harder for the fools that didn't vote the way we wanted especially just as the school holidays get started..

typical Brexiteer thought process - always looking for a conspiracy theory when none exist!
this is the reality when we leave the EU - obviously the pound will fall against the Euro as the EU will be much stronger than us.
anyway no problem for people like you who I thought were looking forward to being poorer.
