have to blame someone else for the problems that THEY have created.
Such a comment goes to show that the remain camp have not understood the reasons for the result and are making no effort to do so.
It used to be said that there was a north / south divide in England but it has crystallised into London/ home counties versus the rest c/w Scotland and Ireland in parts.
It has long been felt that there is no appreciation of the way non city dwellers are living and their difficulties . The impression given is one of I'm alright Jack , just lie back and think of England as long as we are happy , sod you.
On this forum I have spoken about the C.A.P and C.F.P the industries that have been shut down by the E.U policies , the impression before the vote was that nobody in power cared and that the way things have gone in the ""negotiations "" seems to bear this out .
various polls are trying for a re-run they might be surprised at the result if they got their way . The feeling has hardened in many areas and the hope that you can keep taking votes until you get the result you want needs rejecting or else the whole point of democracy is defeated.
I understand full well why people voted for Brexit - a lot of people felt that they had nothing to lose.
However that view I believe is wrong, as Brexiteers still don't have a plan for when we leave.
There is no indications that anyone outside London and the home counties will be any better off post Brexit - if anything they will be WORSE off.
A lot of rural/poorer communities have received EU funding in recent years. You don't think that the government will bother in these areas in the future do you ?
For me those who voted Brexit are the selfish ones, and are condemning the future generations to worsening poverty and inequality.
As I have said the backlash against Brexiteers, when it comes will be brutal.

I’ve kept away from this discussion for a while because things have been going round in circles and there hasn’t been a lot more to say really. But we are getting close to the end game and the effects of the vote are starting to be seen in the wider economy.
You are having a go at City dwellers for being selfish, well that may well be the case but it’s exactly the same for people who based their votes on agriculture and fishing, especially as it only makes up a few percent of our countries GDP. What I would like to know is why the price of fish in a country like Spain is half that in the U.K. Can’t blame the EU for that.
I don’t mind house prices falling in London, it allows younger people to get on the housing ladder, but, if a fall in house prices leads to a more wider regression in the market as a result of a weaker economy no one wins. As Rob says the Brexit vote was driven by people by and large who aren’t happy with their lot, so they take it out on everyone else.
The worst thing is most of these people are of an age where they don’t care about the consequences for future generations.

Think again , If you want fresh fish then our home catch is restricted and the product has become a premium price.
Going back to the 1970's we had a fairly good fishing fleet and the home fleet was landing 1 million tons of Cod , Haddock , Herring Mackerel per year. Last year we landed 400,000 tons which is less than half. The number of boats laid up in our ports is estimated to be over 50% of the fleet . We of course try to stick to the quotas and as such your answer to the price is that we import 1.4 billion tons a year . As the word imports suggests this means we have extra costs involved in transportation and refrigeration.
Furthermore I don't know your whereabouts in Spain but check out the price of petrol , when I was in Catalunya recently I paid 1 euro 32 a litre. At home it is 1.30 but of course that's in pounds .

That maybe so but it makes up a large proportion of their lives and just as you want to live your lives in some form of luxury with security , so do they , but they have seen the ground beneath their feet eroded . They have seen many E.U policies removing their way of life. You people are all complaining about the possibility of hoarding food , well let me tell you the number of wheat and Barley fields in East Anglia has fallen dramatically . I hope you can eat solar panels because that's all we are planting up here . But we have to be green.
Question why don't all these new build houses going up on the green belt have solar power built in , could it be because the large energy companies mainly owned by E.U companies might just dip out on their profits.

you are good at waffling on and moaning about the EU.
funnily enough you never mention how things are going to be better for you once we leave

Ok let’s see what happens post Brexit then. If fish prices don’t halve then I know we have been spun a packet of lies by the brexiteers, and they are just pocketing the difference.
Petrol is a bit of a misnomer because a large proportion of its price is taxes, it’s hard to compare it across borders. One thing that is true is because oil is priced in dollars even if it’s market price doesn’t change a weaker pound means we pay more to fill our tanks up.
Tax on petrol I agree is another subject , but I am not trying to go tit for tat on the E.U , I said some time ago that Rob as a remainer and probably you would never agree with me but what I have tried to do is give an insight as to why people voted the way they did.
It's too easy to say their all racist or thick . Effectively they are trying to live their lives in the most comfortable way that they can and in coastal areas and farming communities the working people don't see the benefits that people like Hesseltine gets from the E.U they just work when they can get paid and go home .
They have the same ambitions as the people in the city to have that comfortable life but they have seen outside influences affect theirs detrimentally . In their position you would not be worried about GDP , the price of stocks and shares they are more worried about the price they get for their produce and what they are allowed to grow and yes they see the city as an uncaring entity that gambles with their lives and affects the value of the pound which increases their overheads lines their own pockets and makes money out of other peoples misfortune.
That's the perception they have , and one has to say "" If the cap fits ""
Think you will find that UK average wage is about 20 - 25% more than Spain so you can factor that in towards reconciling the fish price difference you were talking about. My mate lives out in Portugal (near Spain ) and the food prices that the locals pay are roughly half of what we pay but their wages are about half of what we get paid - so no real difference.

Unfortunately because we are an island the cost of living is not directly corrolatable to a continental country in relation to any measurable factor, Imports costs by sea or by air are significantly higher than by road so it is not a level playing field as all imports must come to us by one of those two options. Everything is proportionally higher within our economy because of that one simple problem.
The tariffs and trade deals set by the EU are more directly equitably balanced around the 26 directly interlinked countries, ourselves and Sweden being slightly different situations. Sweden does have a direct road link via Denmark although it is a long one the costs are still significantly less than the via the air/ports into the UK. The EU does not factor this in and we have no special consideration because of this, and in all fairness it wouldn't be right anyway but we are still beholden to accept those rules as a member of the EU.

Yet according to the ONS the average wage in London is £35,000 per annum and in East Anglia it's £23,000.
I will conceed the property price differential but the prices in Tesco are the same ,as is fuel , water , electricity and Gas if your lucky enough to have it . Just saying.
Hey I thought you Brexiteers said that Brexit wasn’t about the money ?
And if it is important then maybe you should consider what your money will be worth in a post Brexit world of a devalued pound and higher food and all other everyday costs.

"It wasn’t supposed to be this way, according to George Osborne’s crystal ball. In May 2016, a month before the referendum, he warned us all that should we vote to leave the EU we could expect unemployment to rise by up to 500,000 within two years"
